Kelantan is a bordering state in Malaysia where is next to Thailand, together with Kedah, Perlis and Perak, so Thailand radio stations can be easily received in most of the locations and districts of that state.
Kelantan areas such as Kota Bharu, Tumpat, Bachok, Machang, Tanah Merah, Pasir Mas, Jeli and Kuala Krai can receive Thailand FM radio stations signal from Yala and Narathiwat (including Sungai Golok and Sungai Padi), my friends filmed most of the Thailand radio stations signal videos in those districts, however none of them record and publish any Thailand FM radio signal videos in Pasir Puteh so far.
Pasir Puteh is a district and town in Kelantan where bordering with Besut in Terengganu. After visiting my friend and having early lunch in Bachok, during the departure back to Terengganu, I stopped in Pasir Puteh town actually to conduct final radio DXing activity for FM DX: Kelantan series.
Originally I planned to do radio DXing in Cherang Ruku, but I skipped the small town because the Thailand radio reception there is nothing different with Kuala Besut.
As Pasir Puteh town is larger than Cherang Ruku, so I decided to skip from FM DXing in Cherang Ruku and directly went to Pasir Puteh.
I could still receive Thailand FM radio stations in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, Malaysia, the signal is weak and strong under vice-versa condition.
Here are some radio stations from Thailand where I tuned in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, Malaysia.
1. Thailand Parliament Radio Station FM 89.0MHz [YALA]
2. Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz
3. Kor Sor Wor 6 FM 92.5MHz Sungai Padi
4. Radio Thailand Yala FM 95.0MHz
5. KCS Radio Narathiwat FM 96.0MHz
6. MCOT Yala FM 102.5MHz
7. Radio Thailand Sungai Golok FM 106.5MHz
Among 7 Thailand radio stations that I tuned in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, Malaysia, KCS Radio Narathiwat FM 96MHz is the weakest, but the clearest is Radio Thailand Sungai Golok FM 106.5MHz.
With the exception of Kor Sor Wor 6 FM 92.5MHz from Sungai Padi and Radio Thailand Yala FM 95.0MHz, by doing overall check, the signal of Thailand FM radio stations in Pasir Puteh are same as what I tuned in Kuala Besut and Jerteh, Terengganu.
Early 2023, I planned to travel to Terengganu for 4 days 3 nights from 27th to 30th August 2023, the trip involved Besut and Pasir Puteh for 2nd day, then I expanded to Bachok because I would like to meet my friend there who is also a radio/TV hobbyist, both of us are having same hobby.
In the plan, I was used to consider to include Kuala Krai in my Terengganu trip for 3rd day. However, I chose to cancel from coming to Kuala Krai for FM radio DXing when I was back again in Kuala Terengganu after I came back from Pasir Puteh on 2nd day evening.
It is quite far from Kuala Terengganu to Besut actually, it takes 1 hours and 35 minutes to reach Jerteh where is the capital of Besut District. Quite tired after conducting radio DXing in Jerteh, Kuala Besut, and Pasir Puteh, even I had skipped my breakfast meal during the day.
By studying the distance from my hotel in Kuala Terengganu to Kuala Krai, it is extremely far, so I concluded that it was impossible to conduct radio DXing there at 3rd day because I would check out and went back to Kuala Lumpur at 4th day.
Coincidentally my friend who is based in Bachok, Kelantan went to Kuala Lumpur before I came to Kuala Terengganu, and he went back to Kelantan via Kuala Krai road on 27th August 2023. So, he sent me his videos of receiving Thailand FM radio stations signal in Kuala Krai town when he passed by there.
Thanks to him for the videos. With his amazing radio reception videos in Kuala Krai, I don't need to come there for FM DXing.
Yes, Kuala Krai is able to receive Thailand FM radio signals from Yala, Narathiwat and Sungai Golok, the signal is varied, from strong to weak. By driving from Kota Bharu to Gua Musang on Kuala Krai route, Kuala Krai town is the final destination of Thailand FM radio stations' coverage in Kelantan state, Malaysia. After Kuala Krai, no signal were available from Thailand anymore.
Here are the list of Thailand FM radio stations received in Kuala Krai, Kelantan, Malaysia. (including the old videos by Senn Lens and Ahmad Mustakimi)
1. Thailand Parliament Radio Station FM 89.0MHz [YALA]
2. Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz
3. Voice of Navy 15 FM 94.75MHz Narathiwat
4. Radio Thailand Yala FM 95.0MHz
5. KCS Radio Narathiwat FM 96.0MHz
6. Radio Thailand Narathiwat FM 98.25MHz
7. 912 Radio Station Narathiwat FM 99.1MHz
8. MCOT Yala FM 102.5MHz
Overall the signal of Thailand FM radio reception in Kuala Krai is slightly better than what I tuned in Dabong and Kuala Balah last year, but inversely Radio Thailand Sungai Golok FM 106.5MHz signal in Kuala Krai is weaker than Dabong.
As I announced early to decide that I would cease FM DX: Kelantan series, effective September 2023, hence FM DX: Kelantan series will be taken over by my friends in Kelantan for new locations.
- Frekuensi: FM 104.1MHz
- Kuasa pemancar: 2kW
- Tempat pemancar: Gunung Ulu Kali, Pahang
- Tempat rakaman video isyarat: BANDAR MARAN, Pahang
- Jarak: 111km
- Frekuensi: FM 92.6MHz
- Kuasa pemancar: 2kW
- Tempat pemancar: Gunung Telapak Buruk, Negeri Sembilan
- Tempat penerima: Perasing, Kemaman, Terengganu (LPT2)
On 30th August 2023, I departed from Kuala Terengganu to Kuala Lumpur. During the journey on LPT2 (East Coast Expressway 2), when I reached Ajil toll exit interchange, I could detect Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz signal there.
The signal video of Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz was taken at LPT2 highway in Ajil, Terengganu, Malaysia.
Ajil is a small town located in Hulu Terengganu district, it is located 35km from Kuala Terengganu actually.
I thought Kuala Terengganu is the furthest Terengganu's location to receive Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz, but I break my radio DXing record again by tuning it in Ajil.
So, Ajil becomes the furthest location to receive Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz in Terengganu state at 234km receiving distance from Khao Pok Yo.
The signal goes permanently disappeared again after leaving Hulu Terengganu district.
==Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz reception in Hulu Terengganu, Malaysia==
Previously my friend detected Voice of Vietnam VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz signal (from An Giang) in Ketereh and Bachok, Kelantan, Malaysia from March to April 2023, however I planned to DX this radio station again in Cherang Ruku and Kuala Besut.
FM 102.7MHz is transmitted from Nui Cam in An Giang province, Vietnam.
Note: As 28th August 2023, the signal of Voice of Vietnam VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz from An Giang is negative in Kuala Besut, Pasir Puteh and Bachok. So, VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz is tropospheric propagated radio station.
From 27th to 29th August 2023, I spent my days in Kuala Terengganu for traveling purpose, meanwhile radio DXing is my core activity there.
In Kuala Terengganu, I managed to catch two Thailand FM radio stations, such as Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz and Radio Thailand Sungai Golok FM 106.5MHz.
In fact, these 2 radio stations are mostly available in North Terengganu such as Jerteh, Kampung Raja and Kuala Besut, however their signal can overspill to Kuala Terengganu.
Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz and Radio Thailand Sungai Golok FM 106.5MHz are the most powerful Thailand radio stations received in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia.
I filmed the signal within Kuala Terengganu towns at three different locations such as Jalan Pesisir Payang, Jambatan Angkat and a road nearby Hotel Seri Malaysia Kuala Terengganu.
The receiving distance of Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz (Khao Pok Yo) in Kuala Terengganu is 223km, meanwhile Radio Thailand Sungai Golok is 152km.
Comparing both radio stations signal, Radio Thailand Sungai Golok FM 106.5MHz is slightly stronger than Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia.
==Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz (223km distance from Khao Pok Yo)==
Adjacent
channel interference at 300kHz with Nasional FM 91.7MHz from Bukit
Besar can be detected there, especially locations where are very near to
Bukit Besar transmitter tower.
==Radio Thailand Sungai Golok FM 106.5MHz (151-152km)==
For FM DXing in Kuala Terengganu, I break my record by capturing Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz there, becoming the furthest radio station tuned in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia.
Thailand
FM radio stations are usually receivable in Malaysia region near
Thailand border such as Kedah, Perlis, North Kelantan and part of North
Perak, meanwhile listeners in some Penang areas can tune to Thailand
radio stations with weak signal.
However,
before this, none of people were tuning any FM radio stations from
Thailand in Terengganu, but it is my very first time to receive and tune
Thailand FM radio stations in Terengganu state, Malaysia.
In
Terengganu state, Thailand FM radio stations which transmitted from
Narathiwat, Sungai Golok and Yala are available in Jerteh, Kuala Besut,
and Kampung Raja.
Available Thailand radio stations in Terengganu are:
1. Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz
2. Radio Thailand Yala FM 95.0MHz (available in Kuala Besut only)
3. MCOT Yala FM 102.5MHz (available in Kuala Besut only)
4. Parliament Radio Station FM 89.0MHz Yala
5. Radio Thailand Sungai Golok FM 106.5MHz
6. Radio Thailand Narathiwat FM 98.25MHz
7. 912 Radio FM 99.1MHz Narathiwat (weak)
8. Voice of Navy FM 94.75MHz Narathiwat (available in Kuala Besut only)
9. KCS Radio FM 96.0MHz Narathiwat (available in Jerteh only)
Note:
Radio Thailand Yala FM 94.25MHz is unavailable in North Terengganu and
Kelantan's Pasir Puteh/Bachok due to RTM Radio Klasik FM 94.3MHz Bukit
Bintang transmitter. Potentially KCS Radio FM 96.0MHz from Narathiwat,
Thailand is not likely available in North Terengganu due to adjacent
channel interference with RTM Terengganu FM 96.2MHz Bukit Bintang
transmitter.
Here are the Thailand radio stations where I tuned in Terengganu, Malaysia by following locations below:
1. Jerteh
2. Kuala Besut
By
comparing Thailand radio stations reception between Jerteh and Kuala
Besut, Khao Pok Yo (Yala) transmitted frequencies are clearer in Kuala
Besut than Jerteh, meanwhile Radio Thailand Sungai Golok FM 106.5MHz
signal in Jerteh is weaker than Kuala Besut.
Thailand
Parliament Radio Station FM 89.0MHz from Khao Pok Yo (YALA) has mild
adjacent channel interference with RTM Terengganu FM 88.9MHz from Hulu
Besut (Felda Tenang) in Jerteh town, meanwhile MCOT Yala FM 102.5MHz is
interfered by Suria FM 102.4MHz from Bukit Besar.
Note:
I skipped FM DXing in Kampung Raja because the signal of Thailand radio
stations there is not much different with Kuala Besut as the distance
between Kampung Raja and Kuala Besut is just 6km.
Other
than Besut district, I also heard Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0MHz and
Radio Thailand Sungai Golok FM 106.5MHz in Setiu areas such as Bandar
Permaisuri and Chalok.
Under
international frequency coordination agreement between MCMC (Malaysia)
and NBTC (Thailand), Bukit Bintang Besut transmitter is involved in the
Malaysia-Thailand border frequency coordination because Thailand radio
stations can transmit to Besut areas, mainly Kuala Besut and Jerteh.
Tahukah anda?
I would like to announce that radio signal monitoring activity (FM DX) in Kelantan will be discontinued, effective from September 2023.
After September 2023, no any FM DXing activities will be issued for Kelantan state after the decision has been made recently.
Thanks to all viewers for watching my radio signal monitoring videos where I filmed in Kelantan from 2021 to 2022.
From 2021 to 2022, I had traveled to few locations in Kelantan to do radio signal monitoring such as Gua Musang, Lojing Highlands, Dabong, Kuala Balah and Felda Paloh.
FM DX in Kelantan may be ended by 29th August 2023 with Kuala Krai, FM DXing is not planned for Kelantan state in 2024 and 2025.
From 27th to 30th August 2023, I will travel to Terengganu, however I also will visit Kelantan areas such as Pasir Puteh, Cherang Ruku, Bachok and possibly Kuala Krai for final FM DXing activities in that state.
The discontinuation of FM DX in Kelantan excludes my Kelantan friend's radio signal footage which I got them privately. If I receive the message from my Kelantan friends with radio signal videos recorded in the state, I will still publish them on YouTube with credits because the videos are belonged to my friends.
Radio signal videos recorded by my friends in Kelantan are still welcomed.
After FM DXing in Kelantan is to be discontinued in September 2023, I will shift to focus more in Johor, Pahang, Perak, and Negeri Sembilan, then Penang and Selangor will also make a comeback.
From 2015 till today, I have been traveling many locations in Malaysia and running radio DXing at the same time.
When there is public holiday, I usually will plan to go out to do radio DXing, mostly on FM radio signal wave, but my radio DXing also covers mediumwave (MW) and shortwave (SW).
As I had been running radio DXing (notably FM frequency band) in every state of Malaysia, also including part of Sabah and Sarawak, and our current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched "Malaysia Madani" concept, hence I proudly introduce my radio DXing activity name and logo, it is "Radio DX Malaysia Madani".
Seriously I had planned this logo few months ago, but I can only launch this logo today after the state election was ended because I'm looking for stability. The result of state election is status quo condition, I'm just moderate only, neither upset nor happy.
During Najib's era, Najib concept was 1Malaysia, many hobbyist loved to put 1Malaysia logo in their hobbies, such as Kelab Drift 1Malaysia (1Malaysia Drift Club), Geng Konvoi 1Malaysia (1Malaysia convoy gang) etc. When Malaysia Madani concept was launched by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is our prime minister now, so I take this opportunity to launch my radio DXing activity logo by including Malaysia Madani concept.
BN and PH were used to be enemy, but I'm very happy when both alliances work as a team with Borneo's GPS and GRS under the unity government for country stability and good sake.
With introducing Radio DX Malaysia Madani logo, I will present all my radio signal monitoring videos by traveling more locations in the country. In the future, I will expand to Sarawak.
Here is the logo of Radio DX Malaysia Madani 2023 which is launched today.
Dear all shortwave radio listeners in South East Asia, Radio Romania International English service already temporarily ceased two shortwave transmitters such as:
1. SW 17790kHz (0300-0400 hours UTC) from Galbeni-Bacau
2. SW 17760kHz (0530-0600 hours UTC) from Galbeni-Bacau
From 1st August 2023, South East Asia listeners are only able to listen to Radio Romania International English service by tuning shortwave frequencySW 21550kHz (Tiganesti transmitter) from 0530 to 0600 hours (UTC).
Do you know? Radio Romania International is also available in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia via shortwave radio frequencies.
In Malaysia, during summer broadcast of the radio station, Radio Romania International is available by following schedule below:
1. SW 17790kHz at 1100-1200H (UTC+8)
2. SW 17660kHz and 21550kHz at 1330H-1400H (UTC+8)
These frequencies are English program for India and Australia actually.
I was attending my Malay friend's wedding ceremony in Chemor, near Ipoh, Perak yesterday. While my friend went to change his wedding costume and prepare for official wedding ceremony, I was alone and taking the opportunity to perform shortwave listening (SWL) there.
At 1100 hours (UTC+8), I prepared to listen to Radio Romania International English program on SW 17790kHz. It was quite difficult to be tuned because the signal was gone too fast after tuning for 10 minutes from signing on time, the signal of Radio Romania International SW 17790kHz was moderate in Ipoh which has same condition as what I tuned in Balakong.
Meanwhile after the official wedding ceremony of my Malay friend, even completing my lunch there, I felt full and walked around there. Until 1328 hours (UTC+8), I was in standby mode to hear again Radio Romania International on SW 17760kHz and SW 21550kHz via my TECSUN PL-380 radio receiver.
Unlike Balakong, Radio Romania International reception is inverse in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia because 17760kHz from Galbeni-Bacau has no signal there, meanwhile 21550kHz from Tiganesti signal is clear. In 2021 and 2022, I tuned to Radio Romania International at my home in Balakong, Selangor, Malaysia, SW 17760kHz is slightly clearer than 21550kHz.
I filmed Radio Romania International SW 21550kHz signal video in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia (Chemor) by starting from the interval signal to the opening for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. During 150 seconds duration, Radio Romania International SW 21550kHz signal is quite consistent. I tuned it entirely for 15 minutes to listen to the news from Romania and the rest of the world on SW 21550kHz before having photograph with my Malay friend.
By comparing Radio Romania International signal reception on SW 21550kHz, Chemor is better than Balakong.
For international radio listeners' information, Chemor is a sub-town of Ipoh, meanwhile Balakong is a town in Selangor state where is just 20km from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
==Radio Romania International reception report in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia==
I
attended my Malay friend's wedding ceremony in Chemor, Perak where near
Ipoh yesterday, this Malay friend can speak Chinese Mandarin, we know
each other since 2007 actually.
His
wedding ceremony held in Chemor, Perak yesterday. I departed from home
at 5am, then I reached Ipoh at 7.20am. Before going to his wedding
ceremony, I went to Sungai Siput (U) for breakfast because I was hungry,
then I performed mini series of FM DXing (radio signal monitoring on FM
frequencies) there.
Last
month in June 2023, I caught GoXUAN Penang frequency FM 107.6MHz from
Bukit Penara in Kuala Kangsar and Pengkalan Hulu, Perak. GoXUAN 107.6 is
very weak in Kuala Kangsar, meanwhile it is clear in Pengkalan Hulu.
This
time, I tried to receive this radio station in Sungai Siput (U), Perak.
It was very weak when I tuned in the town, the radio signal video was
taken nearby KTM Sungai Siput (U) and the post office, the distance from
Bukit Penara to Sungai Siput (U) is 109km.
However,
while I was driving from Sungai Siput (U) to Chemor, GoXUAN FM 107.6MHz
signal became clearer after leaving the town, it was available in Rimba
Panjang, but signal went disappeared when I reached YTL cement factory
where located at Kanthan.
Next in Chemor, GoXUAN 107.6 signal was very little when I tuned at my friend's wedding ceremony location.
Receiving distance of GoXUAN FM 107.6MHz from Bukit Penara in:
1. Sungai Siput (U): 109km
2. Rimba Panjang: 115km
3. Chemor: 120km
Overall, GoXUAN FM 107.6MHz is only partially available in Sungai Siput (U), Perak.
Tapah is a town in South Perak, and it is a capital district of Batang Padang. When you drive from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh, you will definitely pass through this town.
However, Tapah is a very subjective area when tune to any radio stations because most of the radio stations have poor radio reception, compare to nearer locations such as Bidor and Temoh.
In Tapah, most of Ipoh's Gunung Kledang radio stations are having poor reception because the town is blocked by a hill named Hutan Simpan Sungai Salu where located between Tapah and Kampar, so the listeners have to switch to Gunung Ulu Kali transmitted radio stations (Selangor frequency)?
Yes, Tapah can receive radio stations from Gunung Ulu Kali with moderate signal quality. I tuned to Traxx FM in Tapah on 100.1MHz (Gunung Ulu Kali) when 90.1MHz (Gunung Kledang) is very weak there, but actually it is not fully correct because not all radio stations from Gunung Ulu Kali can be tuned in Tapah, Perak.
Fly FM 95.8MHz and Suria FM 105.3MHz are completely zero in Tapah. When I was in Tapah, I tuned to Fly FM on 87.9MHz from Gunung Kledang Ipoh, meanwhile Suria FM is on 96.0MHz which is also from Gunung Kledang Ipoh. Although Suria FM 96.0MHz and Fly FM 87.9MHz signal are weak in Tapah, but at least I feel it is better than nothing because I still can listen to these radio stations weakly there.
Inversely, although Ipoh transmitted radio stations are weak in Tapah, but some of Ipoh radio stations are still ok there. Lite FM is the example, its Ipoh frequency 101.5MHz reception is moderate in Tapah, and slightly better than Klang Valley frequency 105.7MHz.
Astro Chinese hot contemporary radio station MY FM in Tapah has to be tuned on FM 100.6MHz from Gunung Kledang because FM 101.8MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali has interference with Era FM 102.0MHz from Changkat Rembian. In Tapah, MY FM 100.6MHz signal is improved, compare to 2012.
Some radio stations have Tapah frequency to cover the town, such as Radio Klasik FM 88.7MHz, Perak FM 97.3MHz and Era FM 102.0MHz, they are transmitted from Changkat Rembian at low transmitter power (250W-500W).
==RTM radio stations in Tapah==
RTM Radio Klasik FM 88.7MHz was launched in Tapah during Radio 1 (Rangkaian Nasional) era as the gap filler transmitter to cover the blind spot of FM 88.3MHz (Gunung Kledang) and FM 98.3MHz (Gunung Ulu Kali). Perak FM 97.3MHz was launched in Tapah because its Ipoh frequency 95.6MHz signal is weak there, this radio station also serves Bidor and Chenderiang too. Unlike other radio station, as it serves only Perak state, RTM Perak FM has no Gunung Ulu Kali transmitter.
Rest of RTM radio stations such as Nasional FM, Asyik FM, Traxx FM, Ai FM and Minnal FM have no Tapah frequencies (Changkat Rembian), but they can be tuned there from Gunung Ulu Kali by frequencies below:
1. Nasional FM 95.3MHz
2. Traxx FM 100.1MHz
3. Ai FM 106.7MHz
4. Minnal FM 96.3MHz
5. Asyik FM 102.5MHz
Asyik FM 102.5MHz signal is moderate to weak in Tapah. As Tapah has many Orang Asli people, I strongly suggest RTM to launch Asyik FM in Changkat Rembian to cover Tapah.
Other than these 5 radio stations, there are another 2 state radio stations from Gunung Ulu Kali can be tuned in Tapah such as:
1. Pahang FM 107.5MHz
2. Selangor FM 100.9MHz
==Commercial radio stations in Tapah==
The Malay radio station Era is the only commercial radio station to have Tapah frequency on FM 102.0MHz, however it was launched in 2009 by taking over Raaga slot. FM 102.0MHz in Tapah was originally Time Highway Radio (THR FM) in 1995, then when THR FM joined Astro, THR in West Coast region carried Raaga programme.
988 and Red FM were used to have Tapah frequencies like Time Highway Radio actually, but both were closed down in Tapah. 988 was on FM 94.1MHz, meanwhile Red FM was on FM 101.2MHz. For current status, 988 could be tuned on FM 98.8MHz in Tapah from Gunung Ulu Kali, but listeners have to switch to 99.8MHz from Gunung Kledang when 98.8MHz is interfered by Minnal FM 98.9MHz from Gunung Kledang.
Red FM was rebranded as Zayan after it was purchased by Astro from Star Radio Group. In Tapah, Zayan is tuned on FM 104.9MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali.
