Jakarta

Medan

Pekanbaru

Bandung

Surabaya

Pangkalpinang

Palembang

Semarang

Semarang

(Suggestion) Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) can launch Chinese radio station as PRO-6, broadcast in Mandarin, Hokkien, Cantonese and Hakka.

Currently Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) has 6 stations in different format such as:

* PRO-1: Regional radio

* PRO-2: Young oriented radio station

* PRO-3: News, current affairs and talk

* PRO-4: Cultural radio stations in several cities

* PRO-5: Music radio stations, available in Makassar and Surabaya

* Voice of Indonesia: External radio station

Chinese is 15th largest ethnicity in Indonesia.

In Indonesia, there are few Chinese radio stations operated by commercial broadcasters, but available in Chinese areas.

Radio Republik Indonesia can launch Chinese radio station as PRO-6 via FM radio platform to target Chinese listeners in several cities such as:

1. Jakarta

2. Medan (North Sumatra province)

3. Pekanbaru (Riau province)

4. Bandung (West Java province)

5. Surabaya (East Java province)

6. Palembang (South Sumatra province)

7. Pangkalpinang (Bangka Belintung Islands province)

8. Semarang (Central Java province)

Broadcast in Chinese Mandarin and the dialects such as Hokkien, Cantonese and Hakka. RRI PRO-6 can air Mandarin program from Voice of Indonesia (VOI) to target Indonesia Chinese.

Same as PRO-3, RRI PRO-6 Chinese radio station broadcasts from Jakarta, and relays in other Chinese cities such as Medan, Pekanbaru, Bandung, Surabaya, Palembang, Pangkalpinang and Semarang by adding local repeaters.

In terms of coverage, Radio Republik Indonesia PRO-6 (Chinese radio station) could be same as PRO-4 and PRO-5 as it does not broadcast in every locations of the country because PRO-6 will focus only the cities where have more Chinese.

==Suggestion of Radio Republik Indonesia RRI PRO-6==

* Format: Chinese radio station

* Language: Mandarin, Hokkien, Hakka, Teochew and Cantonese

* Coverage: Jakarta, Medan, Pekanbaru, Bandung, Surabaya, Palembang, Pangkalpinang and Semarang

* Platform: FM radio frequency transmission and online streaming (for outside broadcast coverage)

* Program includes Voice of Indonesia Mandarin broadcast

FM DX in Batu Arang, Selangor.

Batu Arang is a small town of Rawang, located in Gombak District, Selangor, it is also a heritage town because Batu Arang was a charcoal mining town since British Colonial of Malaya, postcode is 48100.

I came here on 27th January 2024 in the evening before coming to company dinner which held in Subang Jaya at 6.30pm. While my working mates went back home first to take bath, but I took bath at my working place at 3.30pm and departed directly from Puchong by 4.05pm via LDP, ELITE, GUTHRIE and LATAR highways after the working hours, reached Batu Arang at 5.10pm to conduct radio DXing.

Same as Puncak Alam and Bestari Jaya like what I did on 24th December 2023, I made an attempt to receive Raaga's Taiping frequency FM 102.1MHz which transmitted from Bukit Larut in Batu Arang. Unfortunately, no signal from Raaga on FM 102.1MHz was heard in Batu Arang, instead adjacent frequency noise of Pahang FM 102.2MHz Bukit Fraser transmitter heard on FM 102.1MHz.

Forgot about Raaga FM 102.1MHz, I managed to record the distant radio signal of Negeri FM 92.6MHz (Gunung Telapak Buruk), Ai FM 92.1MHz (Gunung Kledang) and Perak FM 95.6MHz (Gunung Kledang) in Batu Arang, Selangor.

RTM Negeri FM 92.6MHz from Gunung Telapak Buruk is still clear in Batu Arang town, Selangor, meanwhile Gunung Kledang transmitted radio stations (Ai FM 92.1MHz and Perak FM 95.6MHz) are extremely weak and having interference with local radio stations (Fly FM 95.8MHz Gunung Ulu Kali and Minnal FM 92.3MHz Kuala Lumpur Tower).

==Radio DXing in Batu Arang, Selangor==

1. Perak FM 95.6MHz Gunung Kledang (151km)

2. Ai FM 92.1MHz Gunung Kledang (151km)

3. Negeri FM 92.6MHz Gunung Telapak Buruk (85km)

1. Perak FM 95.6MHz Gunung Kledang (151km)

2. Ai FM 92.1MHz Gunung Kledang (151km)

3. Negeri FM 92.6MHz Gunung Telapak Buruk (85km)

Unexpected radio DXing in Shah Alam, Selangor, what a coincidence for January 2024.

Early of this month, I had planned to perform radio DXing in Kuala Lipis and Padang Tengku on 21st January 2024 as part of the opening for Radio DX Malaysia Madani 2024, but I cancelled the plan two weeks ago due to health condition, and postponed to March 2024.

Actually there is no radio DXing convoy this month. Few days ago, I was invited to attend an event in Shah Alam which should held on 20th January 2024 and I registered myself in. When I reached there, the event venue was quiet and I was alert that the event seems cancelled due to poor attendance. Coincidentally and also unexpectedly, I performed radio DXing in Shah Alam, Selangor as my replacement and back up activity to substitute the main event.

On Saturday night 20th January 2024, I managed to receive 4 Gunung Ledang transmitted radio stations and 1 semi local radio station from Gunung Telapak Buruk in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Ipoh's Gunung Kledang and Taiping's Bukit Larut radio signals are negative in Shah Alam, Selangor. Hence, Gunung Ledang is the furthest radio transmitter received in Shah Alam with 142km distance.

==Gunung Ledang radio stations DXing in Shah Alam, Selangor==

1. Hot FM 104.3MHz

2. Raaga FM 99.7MHz

3. Melaka FM 102.3MHz

4. Melody FM 107.3MHz

The videos were filmed at Seksyen 13, Shah Alam where located near Federal Highway. Receiving time was between 1845 hours to 1945 hours.

Among 4 Gunung Ledang transmitted radio stations, Melaka FM 102.3MHz was the weakest due to transmitting antenna direction, but I'm unsure of Melaka FM 102.3MHz that I tuned in Shah Alam had co-channel interference with Batam based Indonesia radio station, Hijrah FM or not because 102.3MHz is too weak there.

Negeri FM 92.6MHz from Gunung Telapak Buruk is still clear in Shah Alam, but I classified it as semi local radio station as the tuning distance is only 64km from Gunung Telapak Buruk to Shah Alam.

After completing radio DXing in Shah Alam, and I noted that the event venue was not ON, so I left for light dinner and went home immediately. I did not feel disappointed and angry because I had other back up activities there such as radio DXing and shopping.

Shah Alam already filled the slot of my radio DXing convoy for January 2024 unexpectedly.

RTM Kelantan FM 107.1MHz & 97.3MHz radio reception in Central Terengganu (Setiu and Kuala Terengganu)

1. Kuala Terengganu

2. Sungai Tong

3. Chalok

4. Bandar Permaisuri

FM 107.1MHz Bukit Bintang transmitter does not beam to south direction, the coverage is only available until Bandar Permaisuri. When signal goes weak after Bandar Permaisuri when heading to Kuala Terengganu, the listeners are adviced to switch to 97.3MHz from Bukit Bakar.

FM 97.3MHz Bukit Bakar is only available until Sungai Tong.

RTM plans to relaunch Muzik FM in 2024?

RTM Muzik FM is a now defunct Malay radio station which had ceased broadcast on 31st January 2011, and its frequency slots were replaced by Nasional FM since 1st January 2012 after demerger of Klasik Nasional. This radio station was formerly known as Radio 2, then Radio Muzik.

From 2012 to 2017, Muzik FM was available only via online streaming platform under Galaksi Muzik RTM.

After 12 years hiatus, there are some rumors saying that RTM is planning to relaunch Muzik FM in 2024. RTM Muzik FM Facebook page published some teaser videos with "akan datang" (coming soon).

I'm not sure about the relaunch of Muzik FM will be available on which platforms yet because RTM has two Malay national radio stations:

1. Radio Klasik: Malay classic and retro music

2. Nasional FM: Malay language general radio station

It is very difficult and impossible to relaunch Muzik FM by having new FM radio frequencies because the the frequency spectrum is fully occupied.

To relaunch Muzik FM on radio frequencies platform, restructuring RTM Malay language radio stations is the only way. The best way of bringing back Muzik FM on frequency transmission platform is reverting back RTM radio station lineup between 2006 and 2012 by merging Nasional FM to Radio Klasik and becoming Klasik Nasional, so Muzik FM can come back on its original frequency slots which are now used by Nasional FM.

Cease operation of Nasional FM will cause RTM to lose government service role. If RTM Malay national radio stations (Radio Klasik and Muzik FM) deliver only music entertainment content like commercial radio stations without delivering government's information to the people, RTM will be blamed by government for not delivering the government's messages/propaganda to the people via radio broadcast.

The main role of public or government radio/TV stations is to deliver the government's information to the people. Government's information consists policies, propaganda, emergency events and it is also can counter against the fake news.

Some of us may not like to listen to government's information due to different political ideology, but it depends who is the ruling party.

Re-merging Nasional FM to Radio Klasik frequencies and becoming Klasik Nasional, then reintroducing Muzik FM will be more strategic.

If RTM does not decide to merge Nasional FM and Radio Klasik, then retaining the current lineup, I believe Muzik FM will become digital only radio station. When it comes to digital only radio station, RTM should drop "FM" suffix for Muzik FM, and rename it as Radio Muzik like what it was in 1975.

Radio New Zealand Pacific (formerly known as Radio New Zealand International) can be tuned via SW 13755kHz in part of Malaysia

I have been trying to receive Radio New Zealand International via shortwave frequency in Malaysia for years. Many years ago, I attempted tuning Radio New Zealand International via SW 15720kHz in Malaysia, but signal was negative.

Until 6th January 2024, I successfully received Radio New Zealand International on SW 13755kHz in Balakong, Selangor, Malaysia where it is located 20km south from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

Although the main target of Radio New Zealand International is Pacific areas such as Micronesia, Polynesia and Melanesia, but it can be tuned in part of Malaysia with average signal quality.

The signal reception of Radio New Zealand International SW 13755kHz in Balakong, Selangor, Malaysia is average. It is my first shortwave radio DXing for the year of 2024.

Transmitter site is located in Rangitaiki of North Island of New Zealand, the output power is 100kW, and the angle of antenna azimuth is 35 degree.

SINPO rating of tuning Radio New Zealand International in Balakong, Selangor, Malaysia is 34333.

Dear shortwave listeners in Malaysia, you can try tuning Radio New Zealand International on SW 13755kHz by following schedule below (UTC+8):

Rádio Nacional da Amazônia SW 11780kHz from Brazil is the furhest shortwave radio station tuned in Malaysia.

I break another shortwave radio DXing record in 2024 again by tuning another furthest radio station in Malaysia.

On 16th January 2024, I managed to receive Rádio Nacional da Amazônia on SW 11780kHz from Brazil in Malaysia.

In Malaysia, based on local time (UTC+8), Rádio Nacional da Amazônia broadcasts daily from 1750 hours till 1100 hours, the language is in Portuguese.

I received Rádio Nacional da Amazônia SW 11780kHz in Balakong, Selangor, Malaysia where it is located not far from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

Rádio Nacional da Amazônia SW 11780kHz has adjacent channel interference with 3 China shortwave radio stations and Radio Free Asia which they are on SW 11775kHz. During my radio tuning of Rádio Nacional da Amazônia on SW 11780kHz, I could hear adjacent channel interference of China National Radio CNR-6 SW 11775kHz in the evening, meanwhile adjacent channel interference of Radio Free Asia and China Radio International SW 11775kHz happens in the morning.

When there was adjacent channel interference noise of China National Radio CNR-6 SW 11775kHz when I tuned Rádio Nacional da Amazônia SW 11780kHz, I had to tune adjacently to SW 11785kHz, but audio quality went lower due to adjacent frequency tuning.

In my shortwave radio tuning history, Rádio Nacional da Amazônia SW 11780kHz from Brazil is the furthest shortwave radio tuned in Malaysia with 16432km distance.

Update: e-QSL card from EBC

Cameron Highlands is the only Pahang state where the radio listeners can receive Indonesia radio stations from North Sumatra, but tropospheric propagation.

Back to 1st May 2022, I managed to receive few Indonesia radio stations from North Sumatra (Medan, Deli Serdang) in Kinta Highlands, Perak, Malaysia where is not far from Cameron Highlands.

Now in 2024, my friend Mu'izz receives 3 Indonesia radio stations from North Sumatra in Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Pahang.

Based on his videos, the Indonesia radio stations that he receives in Cameron Highlands are based in Medan and Langkat of North Sumatra Province, I was used to receive them in several Perak areas in 2022.

1. Radio Muslim Al-Fatih Medan FM 107.3MHz

Distance: 321km

2. Nastra FM 88.6MHz Langkat

Distance: 353km

3. Radio Maria Indonesia FM 104.2MHz Medan

Distance: 314km

Frankly, no interference with Minnal FM 104.3MHz Gunung Brinchang transmitter is detected when tune Radio Maria Indonesia in Tanah Rata on 104.2MHz.

I was used to tune these Indonesia radio stations in other locations two years ago.

1. Radio Muslim Al-Fatih Medan FM 107.3MHz in Teluk Intan, Bagan Datuk, Hutan Melintang, Sitiawan and Sungai Ayer Tawar.

2. Nastra FM 88.6MHz Langkat in Sungai Ayer Tawar.

3. Radio Maria Indonesia Medan FM 104.2MHz in Kinta Highlands.

Among these videos of 3 Indonesia radio stations tuned in Cameron Highlands, the strongest is Nastra FM 88.6MHz, meanwhile Radio Muslim Al-Fatih FM 107.3MHz Medan is the weakest radio station tuned there.

Radio Muslim Al-Fatih Medan FM 107.3MHz only operates 500W transmitter power.

I believe these Indonesia radio stations received in Cameron Highlands are tropospheric propagation because they are not constantly receivable.

Overall in Cameron Highlands, Nastra FM 88.6MHz from Langkat, Indonesia is the furthest radio station tuned there.

Eight FM 88.1MHz & 88.3MHz radio reception in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan

Eight FM's Seremban frequency is 88.3MHz, but it is transmitted from Bukit Gun to cover Seremban city only, instead of Gunung Telapak Buruk.

Serious interference will occur if Eight FM 88.3MHz is transmitted from Gunung Telapak Buruk.

The radio signal of Eight FM 88.3MHz goes weak when you tune outside Seremban, even no signal, so you need to switch to 88.1MHz (Gunung Ulu Kali or Gunung Ledang) which is weak signal.

Pedas is located between Senawang and Rembau, it is the last resort of Eight FM 88.3MHz coverage, but its signal is very weak. In Pedas, based on the videos of MML, by comparing between 88.1 and 88.3, it is slightly better to tune Eight FM in Pedas on 88.1MHz, but Eight FM 88.1MHz has self-interference because it uses same frequency in Gunung Ulu Kali and Gunung Ledang.

Based on my overall tuning experience, the signal of Eight FM 88.1MHz is better than 88.3MHz in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan. From Pedas to Simpang Ampat, 88.3 occasionally has Singapore radio station Jia FM signal via tropospheric propagation.

Johor Bahru radio stations tuned in Mersing, Johor (random)

Mersing is the only remote district of Johor state where it cannot receive radio signal from two main transmitters such as Gunung Pulai and Gunung Ledang.

A week ago, I went to Mersing at the first time to perform radio signal monitoring. In Mersing, only Best FM 102.5MHz and 6 RTM radio stations (Radio Klasik FM 90.1MHz, Nasional FM 90.9MHz, Johor FM 92.1MHz, Traxx FM 92.9MHz, Ai FM 89.1MHz and Minnal FM 88.3MHz) are available.

However, I successfully managed to receive few radio stations from Johor Bahru in Mersing, the distance from Gunung Pulai to Mersing is 88km.

1. Sinar FM 87.8MHz

2. Lite FM 94.6MHz

3. MY FM 95.4MHz

4. 988 FM 99.9MHz

5. Bernama Radio FM 107.5MHz

The signals are weak there actually. No signal can be tuned when I'm heading from Mersing to Endau. For Lite FM, when 94.6MHz becomes unavailable, I switched to FM 104.6MHz from Gunung Telapak Buruk.

Wednesday 3 January 2024

Lite FM's listeners are adviced to tune the frequency dial to FM 94.6MHz in Central Johor when FM 92.2MHz is interfered by Johor FM 92.1MHz from Bukit Tinggi.

Lite FM has two frequencies in Johor state, such as FM 94.6MHz from Gunung Pulai and FM 92.2MHz from Gunung Ledang.

FM 94.6MHz Gunung Pulai is for South Johor areas such as Johor Bahru, Kota Tinggi, Pontian, and Kluang, meanwhile FM 92.2MHz Gunung Ledang is for North Johor areas such as Segamat, Tangkak, Muar and Batu Pahat.

In Central Johor areas such as Yong Peng, Seri Medan, Kluang, Ayer Hitam and Parit Sulong, Lite FM 92.2MHz from Gunung Ledang has adjacent channel interference with RTM Johor FM 92.1MHz from Bukit Tinggi. In terms of frequency history, Johor FM 92.1MHz transmission in Bukit Tinggi for East Johor (Mersing district) was earlier than Lite FM 92.2MHz Gunung Ledang.

Johor FM launched 92.1MHz Bukit Tinggi transmitter in 1994, meanwhile Lite FM only launched 92.2MHz Gunung Ledang transmitter in 1997.

When Lite FM 92.2MHz is having interference with Johor FM 92.1MHz in Central Johor, it is highly recommended to tune the frequency to FM 94.6MHz from Gunung Pulai. Yes, I was listening to Lite FM on 94.6MHz when I was Kluang, the signal is clear there.

Other than Kluang, I also attempted tuning Lite FM 94.6MHz in Mersing, the signal was weak, meanwhile 92.2MHz was completely null by Johor FM 92.1MHz there. In addition, when 94.6MHz is weak in Endau while I was driving from Mersing to Tanjung Gemuk, I listened to Lite FM via 104.6MHz from Gunung Telapak Buruk.

Lite FM's tuning frequency in Central Johor is 94.6MHz from Gunung Pulai.

==Videos of tuning Lite FM in Kluang, Mersing and Endau==

Alongside Minnal FM 88.3MHz, Mediacorp Oli 96.8FM from Singapore is another alternative Tamil radio station in Mersing and Endau, Johor, Malaysia when THR Raaga FM 103.7MHz is not receivable there..

As I mentioned previously, Indian listeners can enjoy listening to 3 Tamil radio stations in South Johor, such as Minnal FM, Raaga and Mediacorp Oli 96.8FM.

In Mersing and Endau, there is only 1 Tamil radio station available clearly, it is Minnal FM 88.3MHz from Bukit Tinggi, meanwhile Raaga is very difficult to be tuned there via FM 99.7MHz from Gunung Ledang or FM 103.7MHz Gunung Pulai, but Singapore Oli 96.8FM is partially available in Mersing and Endau.

Here are my videos of receiving Singapore's Tamil radio station, Mediacorp Oli 96.8FM in Mersing and Endau.

1. Mersing (120km from Bukit Batok)

2. Endau (146km from Bukit Batok)

By comparing the Tamil radio stations signal in Mersing and Endau, Minnal FM 88.3MHz is the clearest as it is transmitted from Bukit Tinggi, but Mediacorp Oli 96.8FM from Singapore is slightly stronger than Raaga (regardless 99.7 or 103.7).

Mediacorp Oli 96.8FM has adjacent channel interference with Sinar FM 96.9MHz from Gunung Telapak Buruk in Endau, Johor, Malaysia, meanwhile it has co-channel interference with RTM Pahang FM 96.8MHz from Tioman Island in between Endau and Mersing such as Gunung Arong, Kampung Mawar and Kampung Tengla.

To all Indian listeners in Endau and Mersing, Mediacorp Oli 96.8FM is another alternative Tamil radio station there after Minnal FM.

Singapore radio stations tuned in Mersing, Johor, Malaysia

Mersing is located in East Johor of Malaysia. This town is unlike other Johor towns, it is remote area of Gunung Ledang and Gunung Pulai radio coverage, meanwhile the listeners in Mersing can only tune to RTM radio stations where are transmitted from Bukit Tinggi.

Mersing is same as Muar and Segamat where Singapore radio stations are difficult to be received there.

I went to Mersing yesterday, and attempted to receive Singapore radio stations there. It was very difficult to receive the signal by using TECSUN PL-380 or PL-310ET radio receivers, but I successfully received some Singapore radio stations in another site of Mersing town by using car radio.

All Singapore radio stations that I tuned in Mersing town are operated by Mediacorp, transmitted from Bukit Batok and the receiving distance is 120km.

I randomly selected some Singapore radio stations in Mersing by following below:

1. Symphony 92.4FM

2. CNA 93.8FM

3. Warna 94.2FM

4. Class 95FM

5. Capital 95.8FM

6. Oli 96.8FM

7. Love 97.2FM

8. 987FM

Videos were recorded near Kompleks Niaga Penghulu Mohd Aris where it is located next to Mersing River.

No interference was detected when I tuned these Singapore radio stations in Mersing, except Capital 95.8FM which has co-channel interference with Fly FM 95.8MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali.

In other side, Pahang FM is using 96.8MHz in Tioman Island which is same frequency with Singapore Oli 96.8FM, the co-channel interference between Pahang FM 96.8MHz and Oli 96.8FM happens in Kampung Tenglu, Tanjung Resang and Gunung Arong.

Tuning my favorite radio station, Lite FM in Endau, and Kuala Rompin via FM 104.6MHz from Gunung Telapak Buruk (Negeri Sembilan)

Between June 2023 and January 2024, I went to Kuala Rompin and Endau separately for radio DXing activity. During my journey, I was listening to my favorite radio station, Lite FM.

Yes, Lite FM is still available in Kuala Rompin and Endau by tuning the frequency to FM 104.6MHz which is Seremban frequency, transmitted from Gunung Telapak Buruk.

During radio DXing convoy, I never missed to record my favorite radio station Lite FM's signal in these two locations.

1. Kuala Rompin, Pahang (158km)

2. Endau, Johor (173km)

Videos were filmed in the town. For Endau, Lite FM 104.6MHz is only available in the town, no signal in Gunung Arong site when heading to Mersing.

In Endau, FM 94.6MHz Gunung Pulai and FM 105.7MHz Gunung Ulu Kali signal were extremely weak, meanwhile FM 92.2MHz is fully null by Johor FM 92.1MHz in Kuala Rompin and Endau.

Kluang in Central Johor can receive Mediacorp radio stations from Singapore via FM radio frequency transmission

Singapore's Mediacorp radio stations are also available in Kluang, Johor, Malaysia with moderate to weak signal actually.

In Kluang, I have managed to receive all Mediacorp radio stations via FM radio such as:

1. Ria 89.7FM

2. Gold 90.5FM

3. Symphony 92.4FM

4. YES 93.3FM

5. CNA 93.8FM

6. Warna 94.2FM

7. Class 95FM

8. Capital 95.8FM

9. Oli 96.8FM

10. Love 97.2FM

11. 987FM

All of them are transmitted from Bukit Batok, meanwhile receiving distance is 90km.
