Langkawi FM 104.8MHz begins to relay Nasional FM during non-broadcast hours from 7pm to 7am.

According to Langkawi DXer, the RTM local radio station Langkawi FM 104.8MHz (87.5MHz in Kuah) begins to relay Nasional FM during non-broadcast hours from 7pm to 7am.

From 29.04.2021, Langkawi FM stopped relaying Kedah FM from 7pm to 7am.

In my opinion, this can reduce duplication of Kedah FM broadcast on Langkawi FM because Kedah FM already has Langkawi frequency on 105.7MHz.

In fact, I sent suggestion to RTM Langkawi by proposing Langkawi FM to relay either Nasional FM or Radio Klasik in 2018 and 2019 after I came back from Langkawi in July 2018, but I put Radio Klasik on first priority because Langkawi is tourism destination, so people need something music and entertainment based RTM radio station.

What I proposed to RTM in 2018 and 2019 regarding this matter, it really happens, but now RTM put Nasional FM simulcast relay programme on Langkawi FM 104.8MHz from 7pm to 7am.

This indicates that Nasional FM is available in Langkawi on the frequency 104.8MHz and Langkawi can receive this radio station clearer than distant transmitters from Gunung Jerai 100.5MHz and Bukit Palong 89.7MHz, however this is only available for 12 hours.

Before I issued the proposal, Langkawi FM relayed Kedah FM during non-broadcasting hours. To me, it is quite boring because RTM radio stations in Langkawi broadcasted double content on 104.8 and 105.7 from 7pm to 7am, so listeners have less choice of tuning radio stations.

Here is the broadcasting hours of FM 104.8MHz in Langkawi Island.

* 0700-1900 hours: Langkawi FM
* 1900-0700 hours: Nasional FM

Aside FM 104.8MHz is main transmitter for Langkawi Island from Gunung Raya, its low power transmitter FM 87.5MHz from RTM Kuah (Langkawi FM studio) can be shutdown and transferred its antenna and transmitter system to Gunung Raya as Traxx FM to cater international tourist.

Station coverage of FM 102.0MHz silent radio station transmission in Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

If you drive from Seremban to Alor Gajah via PLUS Highway, there is an unknown radio station signal when tune to the FM frequency to 102.0MHz.

The frequency FM 102.0MHz is even clear when you receive at Pedas Linggi rest station (regardless northbound and southbound). I'm wondering who is operating the frequency, even RDS text, named "TEST" was appeared on my radio receiver.

This broadcast station is having signal, but in silent condition when receive all the way from Pedas Linggi to Simpang Ampat interchange.

Here is the predicted coverage of FM 102.0MHz in Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

1. Negeri Sembilan

- Pedas

- Linggi

- Rembau

- Kota

- Tampin (partly)

2. Melaka

- Lubok Cina

- Alor Gajah (partly)

List of Malaysia radio stations which are available in North Kalimantan, Indonesia.

In some locations of North Kalimantan province, Indonesia, Malaysia radio stations are receivable there, but they're based in Tawau, Sabah (Gunung Andrassy transmitter).

- RTM Radio Klasik FM 93.9MHz

- RTM Nasional FM 94.7MHz

- RTM Sabah FM 95.7MHz

- RTM Traxx FM 97.1MHz

- RTM Ai FM 98.1MHz

- RTM Sabah VFM 99.3MHz

- RTM Tawau FM 100.1MHz

- IKIM FM 100.7MHz

Available North Kalimantan locations are only Nunukan, Paladju, Tandjungkeramat and Bunyu Island.

S= Isyarat (Signal)

I= Gangguan (Interference)

N= Bising (Noise)

P= Pemancaran (Propagation)

O= Purata (Overall)

Radio Republik Indonesia RRI Batam PRO-1 FM 105.1MHz received in Central and North Johor, Malaysia

We already noticed that Hang FM 106.0MHz was the most powerful Batam radio station in terms of transmission where it can overspill signal in North Johor and part of Melaka with overlapping CityPlus FM 106.0MHz Gunung Telapak Burok signal.

After Hang FM 106.0MHz as powerful station from Batam, actually Radio Republik Indonesia RRI Batam PRO-1 FM 105.1MHz transmission is quite powerful.

From my listening experience, I was used to receive RRI Batam FM 105.1MHz in Gelang Patah and Singapore. In Gelang Patah, Johor, Malaysia, FM 105.1MHz has no interference noise from Ai FM 104.9MHz Gunung Pulai, my phone may have high sensitivity radio receiver. Meanwhile, RRI Batam PRO-1 FM 105.1MHz is very strong in Singapore, cause Ai FM 104.9MHz Gunung Pulai was interfered.

Apart of its station availability in Singapore and Southern Johor, actually Central and North Johor are still able to receive RRI Batam PRO-1 FM 105.1MHz.

By searching "FM 105.1MHz Batam in Johor", there are few videos where receiving RRI Batam PRO-1 FM 105.1MHz in Simpang Renggam and Segamat.

For RRI PRO-1 Batam FM 105.1MHz in Simpang Renggam, Johor, the entire video was recorded by Badrul Hisham. According to the video, FM 105.1MHz was having adjacent channel interference from Ai FM 104.9MHz Gunung Pulai (local station), despite FM 105.1MHz was receivable there.

Surprisingly, Radio Republik Indonesia RRI Batam PRO-1 FM 105.1MHz was receivable in Northern Johor location named Segamat, the video was recorded by HBC 101, but I published on my YouTube channel by giving credits and video courtesy.

For FM 105.1MHz receiving condition in Segamat, Johor, it was not clear there, but I don't hear any adjacent channel interference noise from RTM Johor FM 105.3MHz Gunung Ledang, despite both are having 200kHz frequency separation only. I may believe the radio receiver are high sensitivity unit in the recordings. If use cheaper radio receiver to receive RRI Batam PRO-1 FM 105.1MHz in Segamat, we already detect interference noise from Johor FM 105.3MHz Gunung Ledang badly.

Alongside RRI Batam PRO-1 FM 105.1MHz, its sister station PRO-2 Batam FM 105.5MHz is not receivable in Central and North Johor. Although both are using 5kW transmitter, but PRO-1 and PRO-2 are having different antenna system because PRO-1 antenna gain is higher than PRO-2. So, the effective radiated power (ERP) of RRI Batam PRO-1 FM 105.1MHz is higher than PRO-2 FM 105.5MHz, this allows RRI Batam PRO-1 FM 105.1MHz to have wider coverage and more powerful transmission.

104.9MHz: Ai FM Gunung Pulai
105.1MHz: RRI Batam PRO-1
<200kHz>

105.1MHz: RRI Batam PRO-1
105.3MHz: Johor FM Gunung Ledang
<200kHz>

Other than Simpang Renggam, and Segamat, if there is opportunity, I would like to test RRI Batam PRO-1 FM 105.1MHz in Muar, Johor when I travel there one day.

Radio Republik Indonesia RRI Bengkalis PRO-3 FM 89.8MHz caught in Melaka, Malaysia.

In Melaka costal areas, Radio Republik Indonesia RRI Bengkalis PRO-1 FM 90.6MHz is the only available Indonesia radio station as it operates at 5kW transmitter power.

Surprisingly RRI Bengkalis PRO-3 FM 89.8MHz could be received in Melaka, Malaysia, but signal was only caught at Pantai Siring Umbai. It is rare catch because FM 89.8MHz operates at low power transmission.

RRI Bengkalis PRO-3 FM 89.8MHz is usually not receivable in most of Melaka areas as BFM 89.9 from Gunung Ulu Kali and Ai FM 89.7MHz from Gunung Telapak Burok dominated in Melaka, despite Melaka is not broadcast area of two stations.

Adjacent distance is 79km from Bengkalis to Pantai Siring Umbai, the reception of RRI Bengkalis PRO-3 FM 89.8MHz is not strong as PRO-1 FM 90.6MHz in Melaka due to lower ERP as result PRO-3 FM 89.8MHz uses lower transmitter power.

Indonesia FM radio stations from Pekanbaru caught in Melaka, Malaysia.

In southern region of Peninsular Malaysia, we know that Johor can receive TV and radio channels from Singapore and Batam, Indonesia, mainly South Johor.

For Melaka, also a state in southern region of Peninsular Malaysia, I may know Melaka can receive Radio Republik Indonesia RRI Bengkalis PRO-1 FM 90.6MHz, especially coastal areas.

Surprisingly there are three Indonesia FM radio stations from Pekanbaru detected in Melaka.

1. Radio Aditya FM 87.6MHz

2. Radio Republik Indonesia RRI Pekanbaru PRO-3 FM 89.2MHz

3. Smart FM 101.8MHz

The videos credit are given to Kelvin Lee, who is my DX friend from Melaka.

All radio stations are transmitted from Pekanbaru, Riau province, Indonesia. The clearest radio station is RRI Pekanbaru FM 89.2MHz, following by Radio Aditya FM 87.6MHz and Smart FM 101.8MHz.

Receiving locations are located in Melaka town, mainly Portugese Settlement Area (for Radio Aditya FM 87.6MHz) and Crystal Bay Alai Perdana (for Radio Atidya FM 87.6MHz, RRI Pekanbaru PRO-3 FM 89.2MHz and Smart FM 101.8MHz), distance range is between 205km-210km from Pekanbaru FM radio stations' transmitter site.

In Melaka, FM 101.8MHz is usually a distant transmitter of MY FM from Gunung Ulu Kali which broadcasts for Klang Valley, somewhat MY FM 101.8MHz is having interference from RTM Johor FM 101.9MHz Gunung Pulai transmitter there, but it is very rare when Melaka receives FM 101.8MHz is Smart FM from Pekanbaru, Indonesia.

This distant FM signal monitoring is very impressive and rare in Melaka.

Kuala Lumpur Tower (KL Tower) transmitted FM radio stations list (including proposed RTM Radio Remaja)

Kuala Lumpur Tower transmitted FM radio stations:

* 87.7MHz: RTM Radio Klasik

* 88.5MHz: RTM Nasional FM

* 89.3MHz: RTM Ai FM

* 90.3MHz: RTM Traxx FM

* 91.1MHz: RTM Asyik FM

* 92.3MHz: RTM Minnal FM

* 93.9MHz: Bernama Radio

* 97.2MHz: RTM KL FM

* 107.2MHz: RTM Radio Remaja (my proposal on RTM planning teenagers radio station)

RTM plans to launch teenagers oriented online radio station (Radio Remaja). It can broadcast on MYTV myFreeview and at least on a FM frequency in Kuala Lumpur only (FM 107.2MHz KL Tower)!

BY PHILIP YONG

philipyong0110@gmail.com

According to RTM One News on 6th April 2021, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) is planning to launch a teenager oriented online radio station to target the Malaysia's teens.

The RTM strategic development director, Abdullah Daud said that RTM is currently drafting a proposal paper for the channel. The initiative is done after having a collaboration strategic discussion with Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, also Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.

==My commentary==

From my view, RTM "teenagers oriented radio station" (Radio Remaja) is something like Australia's ABC Triple J radio network, Radio Televisyen Brunei RTB Pelangi FM, Rakita FM and Singapore Mediacorp 987FM.

Definitely broadcast in Malay language.

This teenagers targeted radio station will be expected to be available on RTM Klik (RTM TV and radio online streaming app), and also digital terrestrial television platform (MYTV myFreeview). In my opinion, RTM planning "teenagers targeted radio station" still can broadcast on FM radio, but restrict in Kuala Lumpur only.

I don't mention to propose for coverage expansion to nationwide because FM frequencies are highly congested in Malaysia (especially west coast of Peninsular Malaysia), so never think RTM will really make this teenager radio station nationwide on FM radio as other radio stations can't get frequency.

Although Kuantan, Jerantut, Mersing, Maran, and  Terengganu (Dungun, Kuala Terengganu and Besut) have plenty of FM frequencies, but I don't think RTM will put this radio station there because these locations have less teenagers market, compare to Klang Valley.

==Proposal to launch RTM teenagers radio station on FM radio platform in Klang Valley==

About RTM planning "teenagers oriented radio station" on FM radio platform, I think it is very sufficient if RTM launches it only in Klang Valley area, transmitted from Kuala Lumpur Tower.

Available frequencies for Kuala Lumpur transmission are likely FM 91.9MHz, FM 99.7MHz and FM 107.2MHz

FM 91.9MHz and FM 99.7MHz are likely not suitable for KL Tower transmission by RTM "Radio Remaja" because RTM Nasional FM and Selangor FM are occupying 92.0MHz and 99.8MHz respectively for Hulu Langat gap filler transmission, which can cause interference. Besides that, RTM Nasional FM 92.0MHz and Selangor FM 99.8MHz are temporarily suspended transmission as its tower went renovation by upgrading security system.

If FM 91.9MHz and FM 99.7MHz are not allowed by MCMC for Kuala Lumpur Tower transmission, so FM 107.2MHz is likely the most suitable frequency.

Talking about suggested frequencies, I suggest FM 107.2MHz for RTM planning "Radio Remaja" as Kuala Lumpur frequency, transmitted from KL Tower.

==Proposed parameter of RTM "Radio Remaja" on FM radio platform==

- Frequency: FM 107.2MHz

- Power: 0.5kW

- Transmitter tower: Kuala Lumpur Tower

- Broadcast area: Klang Valley only

==RF analysis==

107.0MHz: Suria FM Gunung Telapak Burok

107.2MHz: RTM "Radio Remaja" Kuala Lumpur Tower

<200kHz, OK>

107.2MHz: RTM "Radio Remaja" Kuala Lumpur Tower

107.3MHz: Melody FM Gunung Ledang

<100kHz, OK>

107.2MHz: RTM "Radio Remaja" Kuala Lumpur Tower

107.5MHz: Pahang FM Gunung Ulu Kali (West Pahang only)

<300kHz, OK>

According to RF analysis, RTM "Radio Remaja"" FM 107.2MHz KL Tower frequency allocation is ok. When FM 107.2MHz comes to versus Pahang FM 107.5MHz, it breaks the minimum frequency separation requirement because both stations are 300kHz spacing. For RTM, it is not a problem because both radio stations are under RTM, and they're targeting different locations.

For proposed transmission power, as Radio Remaja FM 107.2MHz KL Tower is having 300kHz separation from Pahang FM 107.5MHz Gunung Ulu Kali, so 500W is sufficient for the transmission and less interference impact is detected.

Despite RTM "Radio Remaja" FM 107.2MHz can likely interfere Pahang FM 107.5MHz Gunung Ulu Kali coverage in Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley areas, but it does not affect actual Pahang FM 107.5MHz coverage because FM 107.2MHz does not overspill to West Pahang. Moreover, Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley area are not Pahang FM 107.5MHz broadcast coverage.

It is good if RTM Radio Remaja broadcasts on FM radio in Klang Valley area on proposed 107.2MHz, at least teenagers can tune on FM radio, another listening choice by RTM.

However, Pahang FM listeners may not be able to be tuned in Kuala Lumpur City on 107.5MHz because interference from Radio Remaja FM 107.2MHz, but they can tune via RTM Klik online app. Currently RTM Pahang FM 107.5MHz is not clear in Klang Valley areas, some of Kuala Lumpur city areas can't receive the radio station due to high rise buildings.

Again Kuala Lumpur is not coverage of Pahang FM 107.5MHz.

If RTM launches this radio station, it can compete against Era FM, Hot FM, and Rakita in Klang Valley (for FM radio), and nationwide (for digital platform).

RTM should change Asyik FM Gunung Ledang (95.6MHz) and Negeri FM Bukit Tampin (95.7MHz) frequencies as they're intefering each other.

In Melaka, and some North Johor areas, I spotted Asyik FM 95.6MHz from Gunung Ledang and Negeri FM 95.7MHz from Bukit Tampin were interfering each other.

Melaka is having serious interference between Asyik FM 95.6MHz, Negeri FM 95.7MHz and Fly FM 95.8MHz since 2011.

95.6MHz: Asyik FM Gunung Ledang (0.25kW)

95.7MHz: Negeri FM Bukit Tampin (0.1kW)

95.8MHz: Fly FM Gunung Ulu Kali (2kW)

The interference does not really affect Negeri FM and Fly FM listeners in Melaka because they can tune to 107.7 and 94.0 from Gunung Ledang respectively.

In terms of history, Negeri FM uses 95.7MHz in Bukit Tampin was much earlier than Asyik FM 95.6MHz Gunung Ledang. In addition, Asyik FM launched 95.6MHz in Gunung Ledang 10 years ago only in 2011. Logically, RTM Asyik FM should change its Gunung Ledang frequency.

Next, Negeri FM 95.7MHz Bukit Tampin somewhat was interfered by Fly FM 95.8MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali in Rembau and some area in Kota where they're Bukit Tampin broadcast areas. To cover these areas with more stable reception, RTM Negeri FM should move its Bukit Tampin frequency to 95.6MHz. With this suggestion, Asyik FM has to change frequency too as Negeri FM occupies 95.6MHz in Bukit Tampin.

5 years ago, I proposed RTM to shutdown Negeri FM 95.7MHz Bukit Tampin transmitter with the reason of FM 107.7MHz can cover Rembau and Tampin, but RTM Negeri FM said that some of Rembau areas need Bukit Tampin transmitter because they cannot receive 92.6 and 107.7 clearly.

Here is my proposal of frequency change for Asyik FM Gunung Ledang and Negeri FM Bukit Tampin transmitters.

==Negeri FM Bukit Tampin frequency change proposal==

* Frequency: FM 95.6MHz (migrate 100kHz from 95.7MHz)

* Power: 0.1kW (same as current, but can upgrade to 0.25kW)

* Result: Asyik FM has to change Gunung Ledang frequency

==RF analysis of Negeri FM 95.6MHz Bukit Tampin==

95.6MHz: Negeri FM Bukit Tampin

95.8MHz: Fly FM Gunung Ulu Kali

<200kHz, OK>

Result: No more interference from Fly FM 95.8MHz Gunung Ulu Kali in Rembau, Pedas and Kota. Better listening, compare to current 95.7MHz.

==Asyik FM Gunung Ledang frequency change proposal==

* Frequency: FM 100.9MHz

* Power: 0.25kW (same as current, but can upgrade to 0.5kW)

* Note: Asyik FM can share antenna system with Johor FM 105.3MHz to provide better transmission coverage.

==RF analysis of Asyik FM 100.9MHz Gunung Ledang==

100.9MHz: Asyik FM Gunung Ledang 0.5kW (mainly North Johor)

100.9MHz: Selangor FM Gunung Ulu Kali

<0kHz, OK>

100.9MHz: Asyik FM Gunung Ledang 0.5kW (mainly North Johor)

101.1MHz: Minnal FM Gunung Pulai

<200kHz, OK>

Results:

1. With frequency and antenna system changes of Asyik FM Gunung Ledang transmitter, Asyik FM can reach more coverage in North Johor, even part of Melaka and Negeri Sembilan, also Pahang.

2. As proposed frequency is same as Selangor FM 100.9MHz, and suggest to share antenna with Johor FM 105.3MHz, Asyik FM Gunung Ledang transmission will not cause interference to Selangor FM 100.9MHz Gunung Ulu Kali coverage in Tanjung Sepat and Sungai Pelek because Asyik FM 100.9MHz beams to Johor mainly like Johor FM 105.3MHz.

Previously I proposed the frequency FM 100.9MHz Gunung Ledang for Pahang FM transmission in Muadzam Shah, Keratong, Selancar...

If RTM changes Asyik FM Gunung Ledang and Negeri FM Bukit Tampin frequencies, there are advantages:

1. Interference will become zero as they're no longer interfering each other.

2. Asyik FM can expand more coverage in North Johor by sharing antenna with Johor FM 105.3MHz in Gunung Ledang after change to proposed FM 100.9MHz. Besides that, Asyik FM can reach more coverage in some Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang areas. Expect Asyik FM 100.9MHz has better reception than current 95.6MHz.

3. Negeri FM Bukit Tampin transmitter can cover Rembau and Kota even clearer after migrate to 95.6MHz, then no more interference from Fly FM 95.8MHz Gunung Ulu Kali in broadcast areas.

4. Asyik FM may benefit Melaka listeners as it can be listened in part of Melaka, despite it would have interference from Selangor FM 100.9MHz in North Melaka like Johor FM 105.3MHz which interfered by Suria FM 105.3MHz.

==Proposed frequency migration==

* Asyik FM 100.9MHz Gunung Ledang 0.5kW

* Negeri FM 95.6MHz Bukit Tampin 0.25kW

Those frequencies are my personal proposal, but the allocation and actual analysis are decided by MCMC.

RTM state radio stations new logo colour arrangement similarities and differences (April 2021-present)

On 1st April 2021, RTM unveiled its state radio stations brand new logo, each radio station is representing the colour of the state flag respectively. As I figured out its stations old logo colour arrangement similarities and differences on previous post, now I do the same thing by figuring out new logo colour arrangement similarities and differences.

Here I figure out the similarities and differences of RTM state radio stations logo colour background arrangement by classifying the major and minor similarities as well as differences.

==GROUP 1: Major similarities, but minor differences==

GROUP 1A: Selangor FM, Negeri FM, Sarawak FM, Perak FM

* Similarity: All logos background colour are in yellow. Note: Perak FM yellow colour background is darker.

* Difference: All logos are having different lines and "fm" logo colour.

GROUP 1B: Johor FM vs. Labuan FM

* Similarity: Both logos background colour are in blue, meanwhile they're same lines colour in red.

* Difference: Both logos are having different "fm" logo colour.

GROUP 1C: Sabah FM and Johor FM

* Similarity: All logos background colour are in blue, meanwhile "fm wifi alike logo" is in red.

* Difference: All logos are having different lines colour.

GROUP 1D: Melaka FM and Kelantan FM

* Similarity: All logos background colour are in red.

* Difference: All logos are having different lines and "fm" logo colour.

GROUP 1E: Pahang FM and Terengganu FM

- Similarity: Pahang FM and Terengganu FM are using black and white colour in their logo as both state flags are having same colour.

- Difference: By comparing Pahang FM and Terengganu FM new logo, their background colour, lines and "fm Wifi alike logo" are inverse each other.

RTM state radio stations old logo colour arrangement similarities and differences. (2005-2021)

In 2009, when I was 15, I began to discover all RTM (Radio Televisyen Malaysia) state and district radio stations, and recognized their logos, but I spotted that some of state radio stations logo are having colour arrangement similarities during that time. So, I would like to classify their logo colour similarities by group.

Group A: Perlis FM, Mutiara FM, Selangor FM

- Similarity: First three wave colour is in yellow

- Difference: The last wave colour between three are different. Perlis FM is in dark blue, Mutiara FM is in light blue, Selangor FM is in red.

GROUP B: Kedah FM, Negeri FM, Melaka FM, Langkawi FM

- Similarity: First two wave is in red colour, then third wave is in yellow colour.

- Difference: The last wave is different colour. Kedah FM and Langkawi FM are in green, Negeri FM is in black, and Melaka FM is in blue.

GROUP C: Terengganu FM and Kelantan FM

- Similarity: Both of them are full single colour in all waves.

- Differences: Kelantan FM is in red, Terengganu FM is in black. (Both represent the state flag colour respectively)

GROUP D: Selangor FM, Johor FM and Kelantan FM

- Similarity: The last wave colour of Selangor FM, Johor FM and Kelantan FM logo are in red.

- Difference: First three wave colour for Johor FM is in blue, meanwhile Kelantan FM is in red and Selangor FM is in yellow.

In my opinion, it is good to differentiate by using colour to avoid confusion among each other. Hence, we will not feel confuse of it. For RTM state radio stations' old logo, the colours in the logo are representing the colour of their state flags actually. Example: Perlis FM, the flag of Perlis consists yellow and dark blue. So, the logo of Perlis FM uses these colours.
