China National Radio CNR-1 MW 1008kHz, the only Chinese Mandarin language AM radio station received in Malaysia after dark.

In Malaysia, there are no any local AM radio stations in the country, however most of radio stations on MW band broadcast in numerous of foreign languages within ASEAN such as Thai, Khmer, Vietnamese, Lao, Tagalog, Burmese and Indonesia, then extends to Bengali (rare propagation). Those MW radio stations are transmitted from Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand and Philippines.

I had received Malaysia's only Chinese Mandarin language, but non-local AM radio station after dark. Previously it was Radio Taiwan International AM 1503kHZ, but the radio station had closed down MW broadcast in 2017. Now and since 2018, I received China National Radio CNR-1 AM 1008kHz in Malaysia.

In Malaysia history, AM 1008kHz was formerly operated by RTM National Radio Network Melaka branch from 1960s till 1994.

The frequency AM 1008kHz by China National Radio CNR-1 is transmitted from Kunming-Anning, Yunnan Province, People's Republic of China. Reception is only available in Malaysia after 1930 hours (UTC+8), signal is getting better after 2100 hours (UTC+8). CNR-1 AM 1008kHz is clear too when receive in dark location without light exposure.

Transmitter site of CNR-1 MW 1008kHz is same as China Radio International (South East Asia region), both are located in Kunming-Anning, Yunnan Province, China. My receiving location of this radio station is in Balakong, Selangor, Malaysia where is 20km away from Kuala Lumpur, meanwhile distance from transmitter site is 2434km

Transmitter power of MW 1008kHz is 200kW.

Alternatively, CNR-1 can be tuned in Malaysia on shortwave (SW) frequency such as 13610kHz (from 5am to 9pm) and 9810kHz (from 9pm to 5am).

CNR-1 MW 1008kHz is the only China domestic MW radio station available in Malaysia, meanwhile most of China transmitted AM stations in Malaysia are China Radio International (CRI).

(Extra) Here are the stations and some DX videos of CRI:

* 603kHz: Cantonese and Vietnamese

* 684kHz: Khmer and English

* 1080kHz: Thai and Laotian

Lojing Highlands can't still receive Kelantan FM if RTM launches Kelantan FM in Gunung Brinchang to cover Lojing.

Previously I wrote an article about proposal of RTM Kelantan FM Gunung Brinchang transmitter for Lojing Highlands and made an analysis whether the transmission site can cover there or not.

When I feel doubt about it, so I personally made my enquiry to RTM about the matter.

Thanks to RTM broadcast engineer for the reply, I feel appreciate about that.

According to RTM engineer, Lojing actually cannot receive Gunung Brinchang FM radio signal, I was told that Nasional FM 93.1MHz Gunung Brinchang transmitter coverage in Lojing Valley, Kelantan is very little, most of areas cannot receive it.

Here is the simulation map of Nasional FM 93.1MHz Gunung Brinchang transmitter, provided by RTM engineer (for DXing reference only):

Look at the simulation coverage map of Nasional FM 93.1MHz, most of Lojing areas are not receivable, transmitter power is 100W.

In addition, some of my friends who were used to travel from Kelantan to Cameron Highlands, they claimed that Gunung Brinchang radio stations cannot be received in most of Lojing, Kelantan. In fact, Gunung Brinchang transmitter signal begins to be faded after Blue Valley when step into Kelantan border (Lojing) while going down hill to Gua Musang town.

I was used to watch a FM DX video in a private Facebook group. Traxx FM 90.1MHz from Gunung Kledang (Ipoh) and 105.3MHz from Bukit Larut (Taiping) were clearer and louder than 101.1MHz Gunung Brinchang in Pahang-Kelantan border (Cameron Highlands-Lojing Highlands).

If I have chance to travel Gua Musang when COVID-19 pandemic is less and disappeared, I will include Lojing trip. So, I plan to perform Kelantan FM radio signal test in Lojing.

As existing RTM Gunung Brinchang FM radio transmitters are only operating at 100W power, therefore I made a simulation coverage map of Kelantan FM 105.9MHz Gunung Brinchang at 1kW power transmitter via Nautel RF Toolkit. Parameter is created and tested by following below:

- Frequency: FM 105.9MHz

- Power: 1kW

- Transmitter site: Gunung Brinchang

- Antenna height: 45m

- Antenna configuration: 3 bay array Yagi directional antenna

- Antenna gain: 13.5dBd (3 x 4.5dBd)

- Targeting direction: Northeast (Lojing)

- Receiving antenna height: 10m

Note that Nautel RF Toolkit can only generates OMNI-directional antenna coverage map, so I look at Lojing coverage instead. Following the sample simulation map of RTM Nasional FM 93.1MHz field strength parameter, minimum field strength is 48dBµV/m, meanwhile minimum field strength for STEREO reception is 54dBµV/m.

About field strength level, I set my coverage plot of Kelantan FM 105.9MHz Gunung Brinchang at minimum 48dBµV/m (yellow), then 54dBµV/m (green).

Based on my coverage map of RTM Kelantan FM Gunung Brinchang at 1kW transmitter power, in fact it is nothing difference with RTM Nasional FM 93.1MHz simulation coverage map because both can't cover Lojing at all, regardless 100W or 1kW transmitter power, even antenna system configuration.

I put 3 bay array Yagi antenna (based on SIRA FM-07 model, each antenna has 4.5dBd gain), but the result of the coverage is same with Nasional FM 93.1MHz.

In conclusion, Gunung Brinchang radio transmitter can't still cover Lojing, even use medium-high power transmitter (1kW or 2kW) because Lojing is surrounded by many mountains. Moreover, Gunung Brinchang radio signal is blocked by multiple terrains in Lojing. However, according to Kelantan listeners, Kelantan FM can be received in Lojing by tuning to the frequency FM 97.3MHz from Bukit Bakar which is main transmitter of the radio station. For your information, FM 97.3MHz Bukit Bakar is the highest power among all Kelantan FM transmitter as it operates at 2kW.

When some people claims that Kelantan FM is receivable in Lojing on 97.3MHz from Bukit Bakar, hence it is not necessary to launch a gap filler transmitter to cover Lojing.

(Sporadic E DX) MCOT Trang FM 106.25MHz from Thailand caught in Bintulu, Sarawak?

After Radio Republik Indonesia RRI PRO-2 FM 105.0MHz from Jakarta was received in Bintulu, Sarawak by Shafik 1995 on YouTube, there was Thailand radio station named MCOT Trang FM 106.25MHz caught in Bintulu too.

The reception of MCOT Trang FM 106.25MHz is actually Sporadic E propagation, technically FM 106.25MHz from Trang can be received up to Langkawi.

According to the footage, FM 106.25MHz speaks Thai language, I don't understand the language very much, but presumably the frequency is likely MCOT Trang because it is the nearest transmitter caught in Bintulu, Sarawak, meanwhile FM 106.25MHz in Bangkok are low power radio stations broadcast.

==Thailand FM DX in Bintulu, Sarawak report==

* Station name: MCOT Trang (presumed)

* Frequency: FM 106.25MHz

* Power: 1kW

* Transmitter site: Tambon Bang Rak, Mueang Trang District, Trang Province, Thailand.

* Receiving site: Bintulu, Sarawak, Malaysia

* Distance: 1570km

* SINPO: 45543

I can't imagine that Thailand FM radio station is receivable in Bintulu, Sarawak, it is very rare actually.

(E-skip DX) Voice of Vietnam VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz received in Langkawi? Overlapping IKIM FM 102.7MHz signal?

After Khánh Hòa Radio FM 94.20MHz was received in Langkawi by Saiful Izham DXer last week, today there is another Vietnam radio station received in Langkawi. It is Voice of Vietnam VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz from Bảy Núi (Núi Cấm), An Giang Province/

This E-skip DX propagation creates 2nd Vietnam radio station received in Langkawi, Malaysia, it is another rare signal catch actually.

In Langkawi, FM 102.7MHz signal is usually IKIM FM from Bukit Genting (Balik Pulau, Penang), but IKIM FM signal is now overlapped by Voice of Vietnam VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz from Bảy Núi (Núi Cấm), An Giang Province.

The transmitter power of VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz from Bảy Núi (Núi Cấm), An Giang Province is 5kW.

• Radio Station : Voice Of Vietnam 3 (VOV 3)
• Frequency : FM 102.7 MHz
• Power : 5kW
• Transmitting Location : Bảy Núi (Núi Cấm), An Giang Province, Socialist Republic of Vietnam
• Receiving Location : Penempatan Kampung Kok Mukim Ayer Hangat, Langkawi Island, Kedah State, Malaysia
• Distance : 739 KM
• Language : Vietnamese
• Time : 09:49 UTC / 17:49 GMT +8 Malaysia Time
• Date : 22 June 2021
• Receiver : REALME 6 PRO (Android 11)
• SINPO : 35555
• Altitude : 20 Meter

Other than Langkawi, I may believe Kelantan areas such as Tumpat, Kota Bharu, and Bachok receives VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz during E-skip propagation, but it will have potential interference from Kelantan FM 102.9MHz Wakah Che Yeh local transmitter.

Gunung Ledang.

==One FM
* 頻率: FM 88.1MHz
* 傳輸器功率: 2kW
* 發射地點: 馬來西亞柔佛金山 (Gunung Ledang)
* 接收地點: 印尼巴淡島
* 距離: 212公里

Fly FM can be received in Gua Musang, Kelantan via 95.8MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali?

Fly FM logo trademark courtesy of Ripple (formerly known as Media Prima Radio Networks)

Fly FM has 1 transmitter in Kelantan state, FM 107.4MHz from Peringat covers Kota Bharu and North Kelantan areas, meanwhile Fly FM has no any local repeater in South Kelantan due to no market value in the region, but Gua Musang actually can receive Fly FM on Klang Valley frequency 95.8MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali.

Fly FM is the most listening English radio station in Kelantan (mainly Kota Bharu), according to my friend from Kelantan.

Here are two videos of Fly FM 95.8MHz receiving signal in Gua Musang, Kelantan by Senn Lens. Thanks for publishing, these videos could be a reference and they're quite impressive.

The reception of Fly FM 95.8MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali in Gua Musang is not too bad, but with static, receiving distance is between 152-163km. In terms of signal availability, Fly FM 95.8MHz maybe only available in Gua Musang town, but 95.8MHz is not receivable in rural areas such as Felda Paloh (East Gua Musang) and Lojing, meanwhile Lojing areas where nearby Cameron Highlands border may receive Fly FM by tuning Ipoh frequency 87.9MHz from Gunung Kledang.

The signal is even clearer when listening to Fly FM in Gua Musang areas where are near to Pahang (Merapoh) border. According to Senn Lens, the signal quality of Fly FM 95.8MHz is getting better after leaving Gua Musang town while going southbound to Merapoh, Pahang. I watched the video, Fly FM 95.8MHz is even clearer in between Gua Musang town and Kelantan-Pahang border (Merapoh).

Other than Fly FM, I may predict other English commercial radio stations such as Hitz FM 92.9MHz, Mix FM 94.5MHz, and Lite FM 105.7MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali are still available in Gua Musang town of Kelantan, but the Klang Valley English business radio station, BFM 89.9 is likely unavailable because adjacent channel interference from RTM Radio Klasik FM 89.7MHz local repeater (Bukit Chupak) there, unless receive BFM 89.9 with high sensitivity radio receiver.

RTM Traxx FM, the government owned English radio station in Malaysia is the clearest English radio station in Gua Musang, Kelantan because Traxx FM has a low power repeater in Bukit Chupak on 94.9MHz.

If COVID-19 pandemic is lesser and interstate activities are allowed, I will plan to travel Gua Musang and perform FM DX activities there. Hence, I will share few radio reception videos to everyone.

RRI Jakarta PRO-2 FM 105.0MHz and Radio Sentra Palembang FM 90.8MHz from Indonesia signal caught in Bintulu, Sarawak.

Recently there is tropospheric and Sporadic E radio propagation season for mid of the year. On YouTube, I watched a Bintulu DXer (named: Shafik 1995) received two far Indonesia radio stations in Bintulu, Sarawak, there were:

1. Radio Republik Indonesia RRI Jakarta PRO-2 FM 105.0MHz

2. Radio Sentra Palembang FM 90.8MHz

Can't believe both Indonesia radio stations were received in Bintulu, Sarawak. According to videos, both were having static signal, stereo reception is inconsistently stable, but no any interference from local radio stations were found during tropospheric propagation.

The footage of Indonesia radio signal in Bintulu by Shafik 1995 are very rare because the town usually can't receive such radio stations at normal day.

==RRI Jakarta PRO-2==

* Frequency: FM 105.0MHz

* Power: 10kW

* Transmission site: Jakarta, Indonesia

* Receiving site: Bintulu, Sarawak

==Radio Sentra Utama Nian FM==

* Frequency: FM 90.8MHz

* Power: unknown

* Transmission site: Palembang, South Sumatra province, Indonesia

* Receiving site: Bintulu, Sarawak

Vietnam FM radio station FM 94.2MHz signal received in Langkawi, Malaysia?

In Langkawi, we usually can receive radio station from local and Thailand on FM frequency band. However, there is a DXer receiving a radio station signal from Vietnam in Langkawi, Malaysia today.

Here is the video.

According to this video, it is Khánh Hòa Radio on FM 94.2MHz from Khanh Son of Khánh Hòa province, Vietnam.

FM 94.2MHz is usually an adjacent radio station to Radio Thailand Yala FM 94.25MHz in Langkawi, but now the frequency becomes Sporadic E-skip radio station from Vietnam. In fact, the propagation is not always happened in Langkawi, instead it is overspill radio signal via Sporadic E-skip propagation.

==DX report of Vietnam FM radio in Langkawi==

- Radio Station : Khánh Hòa Radio
- Frequency : FM 94.2 MHz
- Power : 2 KW
- Transmitter Location : Đài Phát sóng Đồng Đế, Nguyễn Quyền, Vĩnh Hải, Thành phố Nha Trang, Khánh Hòa, Socialist Republic of Vietnam
- Receiver Location : Penempatan Kampung Kok Mukim Padang Matsirat, Langkawi Island, Kedah State, Malaysia
- Distance : 1229 KM
- Language : Vietnamese
- Time : 08:23 UTC / 16:23 GMT +8 Malaysia Time
- Date : 14 June 2021
- Receiver : TECSUN PL 310ET
- Audio Output : Mono Signal
- SINPO: 55555

This radio reception is very rare and impressive as it is difficult to catch Vietnam radio stations on FM band, compare to MW and SW.

Footage is filmed by Saiful Izham DXer from Langkawi.

Tea FM can expand its broadcast coverage in other two larger towns in Sarawak, namely Bintulu and Miri.

The Sarawak Chinese and English bilingual commercial radio station, TEA FM currently broadcasts in Kuching on FM 102.7MHz (from Bukit Djin), Sibu on FM 100.7MHz (Bukit Lima) and Kota Kinabalu on FM 102.8MHz (Bukit Karatong).

As a Sarawak based radio station, and Tea FM currently broadcasts in Kuching and Sibu for Sarawak state, actually Tea FM can expand its broadcast coverage in other two larger towns in Sarawak by launching transmission system there, namely Bintulu and Miri.

In Miri, there are five Astro radio stations there, transmitted from Bukit Lambir, such as Sinar FM 96.6MHz, MY FM 103.2MHz, Era FM 101.3MHz, Melody FM 102.4MHz and Hitz FM 105.8MHz. Tea FM can launch Miri frequency by installing transmitter in Bukit Lambir.

In addition, Iban and Chinese are the largest ethnics in Bintulu. So, Tea FM can also launch Bintulu frequency by installing transmitter in Bukit Setiam (Tatau).

==My proposal of Tea FM coverage expansion in Sarawak==

* FM 103.6MHz Bintulu (Bukit Setiam)

* FM 97.3MHz Miri (Bukit Lambir)

==Proposed transmission parameter for Tea FM in Bintulu==

* Frequency: FM 103.6MHz

* Power: 2kW

* Transmission site: Bukit Setiam

==RF analysis of Tea FM Bintulu frequency==

103.6MHz: Tea FM Bukit Setiam (Bintulu)
103.8MHz: Radio Klasik Belaga
<200kHz, OK>

103.6MHz: Tea FM Bukit Setiam
103.7MHz: Labuan FM RTM Labuan
<100kHz, OK>

103.2MHz: MY FM Bukit Lambir (Miri)
103.6MHz: TEA FM Bukit Setiam (Bintulu)
<400kHz, OK>

103.6MHz: Tea FM Bukit Setiam (Bintulu)
104.0MHz: IKIM FM Tanjong Lobang (Miri)
<400kHz, OK>

==Expected coverage of Tea FM Bintulu frequency 103.6MHz from Bukit Setiam==

==Proposed transmission parameter for Tea FM in Miri==

* Frequency: FM 97.3MHz

* Power: 2kW

* Transmission site: Bukit Lambir

==RF analysis of Tea FM Miri frequency==

97.3MHz: TEA FM Bukit Lambir

97.5MHz: Bintulu FM Bukit Setiam

<200kHz, OK>

97.3MHz: Tea FM Bukit Lambir

97.7MHz: RTB Harmoni FM (Kuala Belait)

<400kHz, OK>

97.1MHz: RTM Radio Klasik Bukit Mas (Limbang)

97.3MHz: TEA FM Bukit Lambir (Miri)

<200kHz, OK>

==Expected coverage of Tea FM Miri frequency 97.3MHz from Bukit Lambir==

For Tea FM Miri frequency 97.3MHz coverage, alongside Miri town, Tea FM is available in Seria and Kuala Belait of Brunei clearly too. Imagine if Tea FM expands coverage to Limbang by installing transmitter in Bukit Mas, Tea FM can be received in Brunei completely, and Bandar Seri Begawan can receive Tea FM.

Next, for Tea FM Bintulu frequency 103.6MHz coverage from Bukit Setiam, other than Bintulu itself, actually Tea FM 103.6MHz Bukit Setiam transmitter can be received in Mukah and part of Selangau (Sibu division). This means its listeners can receive Tea FM from Sibu to Bintulu by tuning 100.7 and 103.6. When 100.7 from Bukit Lima signal goes weak in Selangau, listeners can switch to FM 103.6MHz from Bukit Setiam, even Mukah listeners can listen to Tea FM via Bintulu frequency.
