Astro THR Gegar is available in Johor via FM radio 88.8MHz?

Astro Malay language east coast radio station, Gegar is currently available in North Kelantan, Terengganu and East Pahang, but actually some of Johor areas can receive Gegar through FM radio.

In Segamat, apart of Astro DVR CH863, Gegar can be listened via FM 88.8MHz from Bukit Pelindung, Kuantan, but the reception of THR Gegar in Segamat is less clear and it may have interference from Traxx FM 88.7MHz Gunung Telapak Burok.

Here is the video that I help my friend from Segamat to publish on YouTube:

Alongside Segamat, THR Gegar FM 88.8MHz from Bukit Pelindung is also received in Simpang Renggam, Johor, but it is not clear as received in Segamat. If Gegar FM 88.8MHz Bukit Pelindung transmitter is increased to 2kW and added with more bays antennas, the coverage could be much wider and overspill to many part of Northeast Johor region.

In conclusion, outside of east coast, THR Gegar can be tuned in part of Johor (mainly Segamat) on FM 88.8MHz from Bukit Pelindung.

Since its rival radio station Manis FM already expanded coverage to Central Pahang on 103.8MHz from Bukit Senggora, I suggest Astro Radio to expand Gegar coverage to West Pahang by installing transmitter in Fraser's Hill at 1kW power on FM 107.9MHz. So, the coverage of Gegar will be wider than Manis FM in Pahang.

Malaysia FM radio station from Kota Kinabalu received in Shimane, Japan?

On YouTube, if you follow and subscribe a Japanese DXer channel, named DFS VHF Shimane Japan, recently this YouTuber publishes his FM radio station receiving signal from Malaysia.

The videos are recorded in Shimane, Japan, the Malaysia radio stations that DFS VHF Shimane Japan that received there are:

1. KK12FM 89.5MHz
2. RTM Sabah FM 89.9MHz
3. RTM Nasional FM 88.9MHz

Three of the Malaysia radio stations that received in Japan are transmitted from Kota Kinabalu, KK12FM 89.5MHz is from Bukit Karatong, meanwhile RTM Sabah FM 89.9MHz and Nasional FM 88.9MHz are from Lawa Mandau, both transmission sites are within the hill.

The transmitting distance from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia to Shimane, Japan is about 3630km! These DXing are much freak and unbelieavble. If you watch KK12FM 89.5MHz receiving signal video in Shimane, Japan, the KK12FM official YouTube channel comment on the video.

RTM Selangor FM owns two sub-radio stations technically for universities campus, such as UFM 93.6MHz (UiTM Shah Alam) and Putra FM 90.7MHz (UPM)

RTM (Radio Televisyen Malaysia) Selangor FM broadcasts on 100.9MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali for Selangor state, it is also available in Southern Perak, West Pahang (Bentong) and part of Negeri Sembilan/Melaka on same frequency. However, technically RTM Selangor FM has two sub stations as campus radio.

The sub-radio stations of Selangor FM that I mention are UiTM Shah Alam UFM 93.6MHz and UPM Putra FM 90.7MHz.

UPM Putra FM 90.7MHz is also known as RTM Selangor FM Saluran UPM, actually it is part of RTM Selangor FM, thus it is UPM campus radio station. This is because UPM (Universiti Putra Malaysia) and RTM signed MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) to launch Putra FM 90.7MHz on April 1998. In technical terms, Putra FM 90.7MHz transmitter and antenna systems are owned by UPM itself, but the frequency is owned by RTM (Jabatan Penyiaran Malaysia).

Next, UiTM Shah Alam UFM 93.6MHz, unofficially it is known as RTM Selangor FM Saluran UiTM Shah Alam, but during UFM 93.6MHz early broadcast, it was known as Radio 3 Shah Alam Siaran ITM (former name of UiTM) in 1997, then renamed to Radio Malaysia Selangor Siaran ITM. Later, it was renamed to Trek 936, now UFM 93.6 since 2001.

The former name of Selangor FM was Radio 3 Shah Alam and Radio Malaysia Selangor in 1990's till 2005, but UiTM UFM 93.6MHz first name was RTM Radio 3 Shah Alam Siaran ITM. It is first sub-station of Selangor FM (Radio 3 Shah Alam in 1990's) as Malaysia first campus radio station before Putra FM. Technically, same as Putra FM, although transmitter and antenna system of UFM 93.6MHz are belonged to UiTM Shah Alam, but UFM 93.6MHz frequency and license are owned by RTM Selangor.

Therefore, RTM Selangor has three radio stations.

1. Selangor FM 100.9MHz as RTM main radio station for Selangor to target mass listeners in Selangor.

2. Selangor FM Saluran UPM (Putra FM 90.7MHz) as Universiti Putra Malaysia campus radio station to target UPM students and listeners in Serdang, Kajang, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Balakong and part of Kuala Lumpur (Bukit Jalil, Seri Petaling, Salak South, Desa Petaling, Bandar Tasik Selatan, Kuchai Lama and Bangsar)

3. Selangor FM Saluran UiTM Shah Alam (UFM 93.6MHz) as Universiti Teknologi Mara Shah Alam campus radio station to target UiTM Shah Alam students and listeners in Shah Alam, but available in Puchong, Subang Jaya, Klang, Petaling Jaya, Klang, Sungai Buloh, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Seri Kembangan and part of Kuala Lumpur.

By comparing Selangor FM's campus radio stations coverage, Saluran UiTM Shah Alam UFM 93.6MHz is wider than Saluran UPM Putra FM 90.7MHz. Next, I will publish article to list down their coverage availability.

Putra FM 90.7 and UFM 93.6 don't broadcast 24 hours a day actually. Technically, as they're part of RTM Selangor FM, actually Putra FM 90.7 and UFM 93.6 can relay RTM Selangor FM 100.9MHz program during non-broadcasting hours.

In terms of broadcasting hours, UFM 93.6MHz has longer broadcast hours than Putra FM 90.7MHz. UFM 93.6MHz is still playing music after 6pm, while Putra FM 90.7 goes off air in silent mode after 6pm.

Frekuensi Zayan di Seremban: FM 104.9MHz

Tahukah anda?

Thailand FM 88.0MHz from Phuket received in Taiping, Perak, Malaysia?

On 30th June 2020, I saw my YouTube DXer friend recorded a Thailand radio station signal on FM 88.0MHz in Taiping, Perak, Malaysia. At the same time, I received private message from him which he sent me an audio clip of the radio signal.

In Southern Thailand, there are two radio stations operating FM 88.0MHz. Firstly, it is PSU Radio FM 88.0MHz from Songkhla, transmitted from Khao Kho Hong, Hat Yai. Secondly, it is Voice of Navy 3 FM 88.0MHz from Phuket.

When I listened to FM 88.0MHz audio clip which received in Taiping, Perak, Malaysia, the presenter mentioned the radio station name.

"Satthani Witthayu Siang Chak Thahan Ruea เสียงจากทหารเรือ" (Voice of Navy radio station).

Refer to Asiawaves.net station list, the audio clip is matched with Voice of Navy 3 (สทร.3) Phuket FM 88.0MHz.

Therefore, FM 88.0MHz Thailand radio station that my friend received is from Phuket province.

On April 2020, TP4 FM 103.0MHz from Trang, Thailand that my friend received in Taiping, Perak, Malaysia was the furthest distance FM radio station ever, now Voice of Navy 3 FM 88.0MHz from Phuket, Thailand breaks his FM DXing record.

Here is the audio clip:

According to the audio clip, FM 88.0MHz was reporting news of Navy radio, recorded in Taiping, Malaysia around 1304H (UTC+8).

==Reception report of Voice of Navy3 FM DX==
* Frequency: FM 88.0MHz
* Power: 1kW (3.8kW ERP)
* Transmitting location: Tambon Wichit, Mueang Phuket district, Phuket province, Thailand
* Receiving location: Taiping, Perak, Malaysia
* Distance: 424km
* Receiving date/time: 30th June 2020 1304H (UTC+8)

* SINPO: 23433

Well-done and congratulations to Kason Kong for his excellent signal catch of Voice of Navy 3 (สทร.3) FM 88.0MHz from Phuket, Thailand in Taiping, Perak, Malaysia.

In respect to this excellent and impressive FM DXing in Taiping by Kason Kong, I will consider to add Voice of Navy 3 (สทร.3) FM 88.0MHz Phuket into my log list of FM DXing in Tanjung Piandang and Kuala Kurau, Perak, and I will try to record the footage of receiving FM 88.0MHz from Phuket there on 31.08.2020.

Voice of Navy 3 (สทร.3) Phuket has also AM frequency 1458kHz, I could receive it in Balakong, Malaysia where it is my home.
