RTM Sabah FM 97.9MHz and Sabah VFM 102.9MHz can be tuned in part of Brunei via Bukit Tampalagus transmitter

 

Do you know? The Sabah radio stations RTM Sabah FM 97.9MHz and Sabah VFM 102.9MHz available part of Brunei where are transmitted from Bukit Tampalagus.

Bukit Tampalagus transmitter mainly covers Sipitang, Beaufort and Menumbok, but the signal can reach Lawas, Sundar and Trusan in Sarawak, as well as part of Brunei.

 

I visited Brunei daytrip on 1st December 2025 by driving a car from Miri, Malaysia in the morning, then departed back to Miri in the afternoon.

In Brunei, RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz can be tuned clearly in Muara, but signal is not so clear in Bandar Seri Begawan and Tutong. From Muara to Sungai Tujoh immigration checkpoint on the highway, RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz can be only tuned up to Tutong, then signal goes disappeared after Tutong when I drove to Kuala Belait.

No signals are available in Seria and Kuala Belait for Sabah VFM 102.9 and Sabah FM 97.9.

I managed to tune RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz in 3 Brunei locations, together with RTM Sabah FM 97.9MHz.

Here are the locations where I tuned RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz and Sabah FM 97.9MHz in Brunei.

1. Bandar Seri Begawan (81km)

2. Muara (64km)

3. Tutong (114km)

RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz is clearer than Sabah FM 97.9MHz in Bandar Seri Begawan and Tutong because Sabah FM 97.9MHz has adjacent channel interference noise of Nasional FM 98.1MHz Bukit Mas transmitter.

In Muara, both radio stations are loud and clear.

Dusun is the minority ethnic in Brunei, Dusun people can tune Sabah VFM on 102.9MHz in Brunei (except Seria and Kuala Belait) daily from 9pm to 12am for Dusun language broadcast.

 

When I was in Brunei, I tuned to Kadazan and Chinese languages broadcast on Sabah VFM 102.9MHz from 8am to 12pm. 

Muara, Tutong, Bangar (Temburong) and part of Bandar Seri Begawan are the only locations in Brunei where I can tune Sabah FM 97.9MHz and Sabah VFM 102.9MHz.
