Perak FM in Gerik, Pengkalan Hulu, Klian Intan and Hulu Perak

The frequencies of Perak FM in Hulu Perak district are 94.2MHz from Lenggong, 96.1MHz from Gerik, meanwhile other Hulu Perak areas receive on 104.1MHz from Bukit Larut, Taiping, but there has weaker reception of Perak FM in Klian Intan, Pengkalan Hulu and Northeast parts of Hulu Perak areas, it may be received via MW 657kHz from Gerik with 20kW power and weaker transmitter 96.2MHz from RTM Gerik. This radio station also can be received in some parts of Thailand area (Betong).

The Perak FM Gerik frequency, 96.1MHz clash with 988 96.1MHz from Gunung Jerai after Gerik (to Klian Intan) due to same frequency (co-interference), the transmitter power of 988 96.1MHz is 10000 watts (equal to 10kW), which can cover whole Kedah, Perlis, Langkawi, Penang and some parts of North Perak (may include Hulu Perak).

RTM Perak FM 96.2MHz from Gerik has only 0.1kW (100W) transmitter power, which only can cover Gerik, meanwhile 96.1MHz in other area than Gerik (Klian Intan, Pengkalan Hulu) receive 988 from Gunung Jerai.

Recently I find that Perak FM may have been shifted its Gerik frequency to 96.2MHz on MCMC/SKMM website. Here's the link: http://www.skmm.gov.my/Legal/Registers/Register-Of-Apparatus-Assignments-Search.aspx?src=rtm%20gerik&fld=Location&type=AABroadcast

96.2MHz is still clashed with 988 96.1MHz in Klian Intan and Pengkalan Hulu, even after Gerik, but interference may be reduced about 20-30%.

RTM Perak FM Gerik frequencies should put 95.9MHz, so the interference with 988 96.1MHz may be reduced 50% and above because the frequency distance between them is 0.2MHz. Although if Perak FM place Gerik frequency on 95.9MHz for Gerik, Pengkalan Hulu, and Klian Intan, the reception of two radio station may be same.

988 can be received in Gerik on 96.1MHz, but not clear, although if Perak FM uses 95.9MHz. Meanwhile, Perak FM 95.9MHz still can be received in Klian Intan and Pengkalan Hulu, but average signal.

In other cases, if RTM Perak FM wants to cover Pengkalan Hulu, and Klian Intan on FM frequencies, they should change their Gerik frequency to 95.9MHz and increase their transmitter power which can cover those areas (1-2 kW).

Normally TV and radio stations in Klian Intan and Pengkalan Hulu are received from Baling, Kedah or Gunung Jerai.

If Perak FM used high power transmitter for Gerik area and 95.9MHz, Pengkalan Hulu and Klian Intan and some parts of Northeast Hulu Perak district can receive Perak FM signal from Gerik, but may weak.

TV and radio stations in Hulu Perak

Hulu Perak is the most north district of Perak state, after Taiping (Larut, Matang and Selama). Hulu Perak district is quite big, so there has vary reception of TV and radio from different transmitter, depends on the area.

Thridly, Gunung Jerai, Kedah (but not clear).

*(from Bukit Palong, Baling, Kedah)

96.2MHz- Perak FM (from Gerik)

** Depends on the radio frequency. Majority of Hulu Perak district receive from Bukit Larut.

Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) is famous of "frequency interference"

Among all Malaysia TV and radio, RTM is the most famous of "frequency clashing" because of poor frequency planning by SKMM or MCMC.

Here is some example:

1. Minnal FM 98.9MHz from Gunung Kledang, Ipoh- Clash with 988 98.8MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali, Selangor in South Perak, but Minnal FM used 98.9MHz first before 988 launched in 1996, so RTM did not decide to change frequency of Minnal FM.

2. Mutiara FM 90.9MHz from Bukit Genting, Balik Pulau- Clash with Mix FM 91.0MHz from Gunung Jerai, Kedah in Southwest of Penang Island. Mix FM used 91.0MHz first, earlier than Mutiara FM.

3. Mutiara FM 93.9MHz from Gunung Jerai, Kedah- Clash with Nasional FM 93.9MHz from Bukit Genting, Balik Pulau in Penang Island. Mutiara FM used 93.9MHz for Penang first before RTM launched transmitter in Balik Pulau.

4. Ai FM 100.4MHz from Gunung Ledang, Johor- Clash with UFM 100.3 from Singapore (Bukit Batok) in Central Johor

5. Asyik FM 95.6MHz from Gunung Ledang, Johor- Clash with Negeri FM 95.7MHz from Bukit Tampin, but Negeri FM used 95.7MHz first before Asyik FM launched its transmitter in Gunung Ledang in year 2011.

6. Perak FM 96.1MHz from Gerik- Clash with 988 96.1MHz from Gunung Jerai, Kedah in Klian Intan and Pengkalan Hulu. 988 used 96.1MHz is earlier than Perak FM.

7. TV1 Ch28 527.25MHz from Gunung Ledang- Major clash with Channel U from Singapore in most of Johor area. TV1 527.25MHz only launched in late 2010, meanwhile Channel U used 527.25MHz since 2001 until today.
