RTM radio station from Bukit Genting, Balik Pulau interference with radio station from Gunung Jerai, Kedah
.
1. Mutiara FM 90.9MHz- crashes with Mix FM 91.0MHz from Gunung Jerai, Kedah because their frequency distance is only 100kHz
2. Nasional FM 93.9MHz- co-interference with Mutiara FM 93.9 from Gunung Jerai.
Gunung Jerai can cover whole Penang, Kedah, Perlis, Langkawi, even North Perak.
These interference cause listeners in Balik Pulau can't receive Mix FM 91.0MHz from Gunung Jerai. Meanwhile, Nasional FM still can be listened on 93.9MHz because Mutiara FM 93.9MHz from Gunung Jerai used low power transmitter, which only consists 0.1kW to cover North Penang only.
Recently, I find that there has 94.1MHz in Penang, but 94.1MHz is Mutiara FM. I don't really know where does the transmitter site of 94.1MHz located in. Its reception is weak in Penang.
RTM should change Mutiara FM and Nasional FM Balik Pulau frequency to 100.7MHz and 94.1MHz respectively to prevent co-interference with other radio station from Gunung Jerai.
So, Mix FM listeners still can tune 91.0MHz in Balik Pulau without interference. Besides that, Mutiara FM can prevent interference because they has expanded their frequency distance from 100kHz to 200kHz. Each radio station with different transmitter should keep 200kHz.
In addition, RTM Nasional FM can take over Mutiara FM 94.1MHz, as Balik Pulau frequency. So that, there has no co-interference between Mutiara FM and Nasional FM.

IKIM.FM reception in Pulau Pinang and North Perak (Taiping)
In Taiping, there has 4 empty FM frequencies, there are 88.8MHz, 92.4MHz, 93.2MHz and 105.7MHz. I guess that these 4 frequencies may be booked by other radio stations or not suitable for these area due to interference with other radio station from Baling. If IKIM.FM cannot set-up frequency for Taiping area, they should upgrade their Kedah transmitter.
"Aduan masalah di KEDAH-PULAU PINANG-PERAK UTARA sudah dibuat sejak IR Ahmad Jais Alias menjadi Jurutera IKIM.fm lagi dan Jurutera IKIM selepas beliau. (email bertarikh 29 Dis 2006)" by AZwan MuHammad (commented on 13 June 2013).
Basically Taiping, Penang and North Perak could receive this radio station on 89.0MHz clearly before its weaker signal Balik Pulau frequency 102.7MHz launched, same with other radio station. Red FM can be received in Taiping on 98.1 MHz clearly without having its Taiping/Bukit Larut freqeuncy, even the transmitter site of IKIM.FM 89.0MHz and Red FM 98.1MHz are located in Gunung Jerai, Kedah.
Actually there had 3 empty frequencies in Taiping and North Perak that there is suitable to be build transmitter in Bukit Larut, but 92.4MHz and 93.2MHz may get radio interference with RTM Baling in Central Penang and Gerik like HOT FM 90.5MHz Bukit Larut and Kedah FM 90.5MHz Baling before, but the impact of interference is not so obvious because the RTM radio stations in Baling just only cover Baling, Thailand: Betong and Pengkalan Hulu only. Meanwhile 105.7MHz is the last frequency that is more suitable to be used in Bukit Larut than 92.4MHz and 93.2MHz. Lite FM and Kedah FM are using 105.7MHz, but they are covering Klang Valley/South Perak and Langkawi only. Since Lenggong and Gerik popularity majority are Malays, IKIM.FM Bukit Larut frequency can cover there too if their frequency is on 105.7MHz.
105.7MHz from Bukit Larut can transmit up to:
1. Klian Intan, Pengkalan Hulu, Perak
2. Thailand Betong, and some parts of Yala province...
than 92.4MHz and 93.2MHz because there has no any radio stations in Baling use the frequency close to 105.7MHz.
With Bukit Larut FM frequency, it can cover greater areas of North Perak such as Gerik, Pengkalan Hulu, Kuala Kangsar, Taiping, Changkat Jering, Selama, Batu Kurau, Parit Buntar, even Penang and South Kedah area. Back to old era, 1 AM frequency from Bukit Larut can cover up to South Perak and Thailand: Betong and parts of Yala province, but FM frequency from Bukit Larut is limited, only cover up to Gerik, and Sungai Petani.
Recently the reception of IKIM.FM on 89.0MHz from Gunung Jerai is very weak, even no signal in Penang and North Kedah. I received Thailand radio station on 89.0MHz in Batu Feringgi, I may believe that "89.0MHz Thai station" is transmitted from Yala province.
Currently IKIM.FM 102.7MHz from Bukit Genting transmission coverage is limited, covers south west Penang Island only such as Balik Pulau, meanwhile the reception of 102.7MHz for the rest of Penang areas are very weak.
Solution 1: IKIM.FM should change its Balik Pulau frequency to 102.9MHz and shift its transmitter area to Bukit Penara with 5kW transmitter power to cover whole Penang and North Perak. If IKIM.FM would like to cover North Perak from Bukit Penara, they should change its frequency to 102.9MHz to prevent crash with IKIM.FM 102.7MHz from Gunung Kledang, Ipoh in Taiping and Kuala Kangsar.
Currently, IKIM.FM Penang frequency is 102.7MHz, but its transmitter site is in Bukit Genting, it only cover Balik Pulau only, the other area outside Balik Pulau is not clear. Bukit Penara transmitter can cover whole area of Penang (including Balik Pulau), North Perak, even South Kedah.
Solution 2: IKIM.FM should increase its Kedah frequency 89.0MHz transmitter power to 10kW. So it can cover North Perak, like Red FM 98.1MHz and one FM 87.8MHz.
Conclusion: Listeners in North Perak and Penang can listen to IKIM.FM on 89.0MHz from Gunung Jerai or 102.9MHz from Bukit Penara. Measnwhile in Kuala Kangsar can receive on 102.7MHz from Ipoh without crashes.
With Bukit Larut transmitter, Penang and North Perak can receive Ikim.FM clearly, meanwhile 102.7MHz Balik Pulau transmitter is no needed if 89.0MHz from Gunung Jerai can cover whole Penang enough.
In my opinion, the transmission coverage of Bukit Larut transmitter is wider than Bukit Penara.
FM transmitter coverage map in Perak, Kedah and Penang.
Green: Bukit Larut (105.7MHz; suggestion only)
Purple: Bukit Penara (102.9MHz; suggestion only)
Pink: Gunung Kledang (102.7MHz)
Yellow: Gunung Jerai (89.0MHz)
Black shadded region: Bukit Genting (102.7MHz; current IKIM.FM Balik Pulau frequency)

one FM Seremban frequency 88.3MHz transmitter site
Normally TV/Radio transmitter for Negeri Sembilan is located in Gunung Telapa Burok, which is in Jelebu, 20km from Seremban.
Initially I though one FM 88.3 MHz wass transmitted from Gunung Telapa Burok because all TV/Radio station in Negeri Sembilan are transmitted from there, actually it's not.
I guess that one FM Seremban frequency 88.3MHz had located in Gunung Telapa Burok before Bukit Gan in 2009/10, but the signal was not stable yet in Seremban or weak reception there, sometimes Seremban could not receive one FM 88.3MHz from Gunung Telapa Burok.
As I realized, one FM 88.3MHz from Bukit Gan only covers in Seremban and nearby areas, the other areas of Negeri Sembilan like Rembau/Port Dickson/Kuala Pilah/Jempol/parts of Jelebu cannot receive the signal from Bukit Gan anymore, somewhat it is weaker. Radio/TV from Gunung Telapa Burok can reach many places, even outside of Negeri Sembilan such as Melaka and southern parts of Selangor.
Bukit Gan is located at Jalan Rasah, Seremban. Finally I realized.
Review on Terengganu FM 90.0MHz in South Terengganu (Kemaman)
This transmitter only covers 10-15km from Cerul.
For better reception of Terengganu FM in South Terengganu (Kemaman and Cerul), RTM should locate its transmitter which is on 90.0MHz in Bukit Pelindung, Kuantan to cover these areas, instead of locate in Felda Cerul. Just like Mutiara FM 93.9MHz from Gunung Jerai, Kedah to cover only North Penang; Negeri FM 107.7MHz from Gunung Ledang to cover only southern parts of Negeri Sembilan (Tampin, Rembau, Gemas and South Jempol); Melaka FM 102.3MHz from Gunung Ledang to cover Melaka state only.
If RTM Terengganu FM 90.0MHz is located in Bukit Pelindung, Kuantan, I believed it only covers for South Terengganu only, and its reception in Kemaman district may be better, but Kuantan is only "secondary coverage", meanwhile other Pahang areas will not receive clearly (somewhat can be interfered with BFM 89.9 from Gunung Ulu Kali) as other radio stations in Kuantan.
Review on TV and radio transmitter in Kota Bharu, Kelantan
1. Peringat (Media Prima)
2. Telipot (RTM)
3. Bukit Panau, Tanah Merah (ASTRO Radio and IKIM)
RTM established transmitter in Bukit Bakar, Machang, Kelantan, where's near to Tanah Merah. Actually, Bukit Bakar is the main transmitter site for Kelantan, which can cover up to Kota Bharu and South Kelantan, meanwhile Telipot is only for Kota Bharu. I guess that Bukit Bakar transmitter covers distance may be further than Telipot.
Review on Perak FM Tanjung Malim and Slim River reception
The Perak FM frequencies in South Perak, mainly are 97.3MHz from Changkat Rembian, and 89.6MHz from Bukit Asa. In South Perak, Perak FM 95.6 from Gunung Kledang, Ipoh is still can be received in certain area of South Perak, but not so clear.
Perak FM 97.3MHz from Changkat Rembian, covers Tapah, Bidor, Sungkai, and Trolak, meanwhile 89.6MHz from Bukit Asa, covers only Slim River and Tanjung Malim.
In Slim River, Trolak and Tanjung Malim, I find that radio stations reception quality which transmitted from Gunung Ulu Kali (Genting Highlands) is much better than local transmitter in South Perak such as Bukit Asa.
Perak FM 89.6MHz (from Bukit Asa) is low power transmitter, it only covers 25km area from Bukit Asa (up to Slim River), its reception is not so good in some certain areas of Slim River.
RTM can locate Perak FM transmitter in Gunung Ulu Kali for South Perak area only, so that it provides better reception in Trolak, Slim River and Tanjung Malim than transmitted from Bukit Asa, even in Sungkai, Tapah, Bidor and Hilir Perak still can receive Perak FM from Gunung Ulu Kali. If Perak FM locates its transmitter in Gunung Ulu Kali, it is only for South Perak and nearby area like North Selangor (Hulu Selangor), not for Klang Valley and Pahang. Therefore, the reception of Perak FM from Gunung Ulu Kali will not be clear in Klang Valley, South Selangor and West Pahang, like Pahang FM 107.5MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali, only covers West Pahang.
Optionally, RTM Perak FM can migrate its Bukit Asa frequency from 89.6MHz to 89.5MHz, so this can avoid interference with 89.9MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali. In addition, with frequency migration to 89.5MHz, this can allow Perak FM to increase power to cover South Perak.

RTM Negeri FM in Rembau/Tampin. Review on Negeri FM 95.7MHz
- 101.3MHz in Port Dickson (replaced by 92.6MHz from Gunung Telapa Burok)
- 107.9MHz from RTM Seremban (frequency was taken over by Klasik Nasional, then closed down in December 2009 and replaced by 92.6MHz)
- 96.3MHz in Gemencheh (replaced by 107.7MHz from Gunung Ledang)
In the past year, Negeri FM had 6 frequencies for Negeri Sembilan states because:
1. The main Seremban frequency (from Gunung Telapa Burok), 92.6MHz reception was weak and its transmission power was 0.1kW, only covered Jelebu and Seremban. The reception was improved and its transmission power was increased since November 2009. Therefore, Negeri FM 92.6MHz could cover 80% of Negeri Sembilan state, it also could be heard in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and West Pahang, even the areas where 100km from Gunung Telapa Burok could be heard too.
2. Negeri FM had not established a frequency for southern parts of Negeri Sembilan like Tampin, Gemencheh, Gemas and Rembau, which transmitted from Gunung Ledang yet.
3. The reception of Negeri FM 92.6MHz was not clear in Port Dickson, 101.3MHz was established in 1990's. The Port Dickson frequency, 101.3MHz was closed down in late 2010 since P. Dickson can receive 92.6MHz well and 101.3MHz was interfered with THR Raaga 101.5MHz, which from Gunung Telapa Burok (Seremban).
RTM Orang Asli radio station, Asyik FM had expanded its coverage in Johor on 95.6MHz from Gunung Ledang in January 2011. I guess Negeri FM 95.7MHz from Bukit Tampin may not clear in Gemencheh and Gemas anymore.
In my opinion, Negeri FM 95.7MHz from Bukit Tampin may be considered as "extra frequency" because Tampin, Rembau and Johol can receive Negeri FM 107.7MHz from Gunung Ledang well. South Rembau like Kota receive 107.7MHz from Gunung Ledang is slightly clear, meanwhile 92.6MHz is still ok there. RTM should "beri laluan" (give away) to Asyik FM 95.6MHz to cover Melaka and Negeri Sembilan. Meanwhile, 95.7MHz was interfered by Fly FM 95.8MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali (Klang Valley) in Rembau, even 92.6MHz or 107.7MHz is clearer than 95.7MHz. I think RTM can increase Negeri FM Gunung Ledang 107.7MHz (for southern parts of Negeri Sembilan) transmission power to cover Rembau and Tampin, to replace 95.7MHz. So, Negeri FM 95.7MHz can be ended transmission. The Bukit Tampin transmitter 95.7MHz is not needed anymore.
Negeri FM 107.7MHz is more stable than 95.7MHz in Rembau and Tampin.
Negeri FM in south parts of Negeri Sembilan and Melaka (exclude 95.7MHz):
1. Kota- 107.7MHz
2. Pedas, Dangi, Linggi & Johol- 107.7MHz/92.6MHz
3. Tampin, Alor Gajah- 107.7MHz
4. Rembau- 107.7MHz
5. Pulau Sebang- 107.7MHz
6. Gemencheh, Ayer Kurning & Gemas- 107.7MHz

Singapore radio stations reception in Malaysia
In 2012, when I went to Tampin, I tested the receptions of the radio stations from Johor Bahru and Singapore there, LOVE 97.2FM, Y.E.S. 933, Lush 99.5FM and Class 95FM can be received partially there, but crash with radio stations from Negeri Sembilan (Gunung Telapa Burok).
Here some radio stations from Singapore can be received partially in Melaka and some parts of Johor like Muar, Tangkak, Segamat, Pagoh, Labis, Jementah.
88.9FM- BBC World Service
91.3FM- HOT FM 91.3
92.0FM- Kiss 92FM
92.4FM- Symphony 92.4FM
93.8FM- 938 LIVE
96.3FM- Expat Radio 96.3XFM*
97.2FM- Love 97.2FM
* May be clash with Minnal FM 96.3MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali in Melaka.
All radio stations above can be heard some hissing sound from Gunung Ledang radio stations which has distance of 0.2MHz.
The other radio stations from Singapore like Y.E.S. 933, Capital 95.8FM, Gold 90.5FM, Class 95, Oli 96.8, Warna 94.2, Ria 89.7, POWER 98FM, 88.3JiaFM***, 987FM, Lush 99.5FM, and UFM 100.3** cannot be heard in some areas of North Johor and Melaka because radio stations from Negeri Sembilan (except UFM 100.3 and Capital 95.8FM) are using same frequencies with these radio stations, where Gunung Telapa Burok can cover most of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, even up to Melaka and North Johor such as Muar and Segamat.
**UFM 100.3 only can cover up to Johor Bahru, Pontian, and Kota Tinggi because it crashes with Ai FM 100.4MHz from Gunung Ledang, where covers North Johor and Melaka.
***883JiaFM transmitter site is in Defence Tower which only covers up to Central Johor.
#Capital 95.8FM only can cover up to North Johor until Muar, but it will crash with Negeri FM 95.7MHz from Bukit Tampin partially unless RTM close transmission of Negeri FM 95.7MHz in Tampin (which considered as "extra frequency"), and replace it with 107.7MHz from Gunung Ledang for Rembau, Tampin and Southern parts of Negeri Sembilan. Then, Capital 95.8FM can be heard partially in Melaka and North Johor like Muar.
If you would like to listen Singapore radio stations (only HOTFM 91.3, KISS 92FM, Expat Radio 96.3 XFM, Love 97.2FM, 938LIVE) in Melaka and North Johor, you need high antenna to received and direct it to the south.

Minnal FM South Perak
In 1991, RTM upgraded all national radio station to FM band. Minnal FM frequency is on 98.9MHz in Ipoh and Central Perak since 1991 until today. Its reception in many South Perak areas was quite clear in between year 1991-1996. In 1996, when Chinese radio station, Redi FM 98.8 was established on 98.8MHz and its transmitter site was located in Gunung Ulu Kali, Genting Highlands, which can cover Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, South Perak, West Pahang, and northern parts of Negeri Sembilan, even can cover up to Tapah, Teluk Intan and Sitiawan, it caused big interference/crash between Minnal FM 98.9MHz from Ipoh and 988 98.8MHz from Klang Valley in many South Perak area, also in Teluk Intan and Sitiawan, even cannot receive 98.9 there anymore. When you go to Perak area like Sungkai, Teluk Intan and Bidor and tune on 98.9MHz, you will hear the interference from 988.
This interference between Minnal FM 98.9MHz and 988 98.8MHz in certain of South Perak area also happen until today.
In year 2011/12, I had suggested RTM to change Minnal FM Ipoh frequency to 99.0MHz to provide better reception for those areas, but RTM said that Minnal FM used 98.9MHz for Ipoh area is earlier than 988 98.8MHz and their radio system is 6+1, means that 6 transmitter share with 1 standby antenna. The solution is 988 listeners tune 99.8MHz in these area, meanwhile Minnal FM listeners must tune to 96.3MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali in South Perak and Teluk Intan.
Since Minnal FM has 4 frequencies can be received in South Perak and Teluk Intan, there are 107.9, 98.9, 96.3, and 104.3. I only suggest the 107.9 to RTM for boosting up the transmission power of 107.9MHz to cover South Perak as alternative frequency to 98.9MHz because Minnal FM 107.9MHz has no interference from any radio stations, even no any radio stations used the frequencies between 107.6-108.0MHz, unless iM4U FM 107.9MHz located its transmitter site in Gunung Ulu Kali, so Minnal FM 107.9MHz cannot be received anymore in South Perak and Teluk Intan anymore, then have to tune to 96.3MHz there, but currently iM4U FM 107.9 transmitter site is located in Bukit Sungai Besi, which cover only Kuala Lumpur and certain area in Selangor.
It is perfect if Minnal FM 107.9MHz from Bukit Larut is very clear as hitz.fm 93.6, and MIX FM 91.3 in South Perak. Although hitz.fm and MIX FM in South Perak area are 92.7/92.9 and 94.3/94.5 respectively, but their frequencies from Taiping (93.6 for hitz.fm and 91.3 for MIX FM) are still able to be received there.
Current the transmission power of Minnal FM Bukit Larut transmitter consists 500W/0.5kW only, it can't fully cover South Perak and Teluk Intan, although RTM boosts up its power to 1kW. 96.3MHz in Tapah and Teluk Intan is better.
Frequencies of Minnal FM in Perak
- 96.3MHz (Tanjung Malim, Behrang, Slim River, Trolak, Sungkai, Bidor, Tapah, Teluk Intan, Kampung Gajah, Langkap, Bagan Datoh, and Chenderong Balai)
- 98.9MHz (Ipoh, Kampar, Manjung, Sitiawan, Lumut, Ayer Tawar, Bota, Seri Iskandar, Batu Gajah, Manong, Perak Tengah, and Sg. Siput)
- 107.9MHz (Taiping, Parit Buntar, Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Padang Rengas)
- 100.0MHz (Gerik)
- 93.3MHz/96.7MHz (Pengkalan Hulu and Klian Intan)
