Current status in Malaysia:


3G is to be retired on 31st December 2021, meanwhile 2G (including 2.5G GPRS and 2.75G EDGE network) services are continued operation to support M2M (Machine-To-Machine) and IoT (Internet of Things) such as security and health equipment which run 2G network. 2G is still important for emergency purpose when 4G is not available yet in certain areas.
