RTM has two shortwave radio stations where are still operational today, they are Sarawak FM SW9835kHz and Wai FM SW11665kHz.
These shortwave radio stations are transmitted from RTM Kajang, but their main targeting locations are Sarawak rural areas where not covered by existing FM transmitters such as:
1. Bario
2. Long Lama
3. Long Atip
4. Long Miri
5. Long Selatong
6. Long Apu
7. Long Palai
8. Long Tungan
9. Pa Dali
10. Long Lamai
11. Kubaan
12. Long Seridan
13. Ba'kelalan
14. Marudi rural areas
In addition, these 14 Sarawak rural locations are not covered by any Internet and terrestrial television coverage. In these locations, they are covered by satellite television and shortwave radio stations. So, that's why Radio Free Sarawak is accessible in Sarawak's rural areas.
Beaming angle of Sarawak FM 9835kHz and Wai FM 11665kHz is 93DEG from RTM Kajang, which is east direction.
Although my home is not far from RTM Kajang, but surprisingly I could receive co-channel interference signal on 9835kHz and 11665kHz in the evenings.
RTM Sarawak FM SW 9835kHz is having co-channel interference from Voice of Vietnam VOV-5 SW9840kHz in the evening, meanwhile RTM Wai FM/Limbang FM SW 11665kHz is having co-channel interference from China National Radio CNR-2 SW 11660kHz from China.
Technically Peninsular Malaysia is not really the main broadcast target of two RTM shortwave radio stations as they beam to Sarawak rural areas.
RTM Sarawak FM 9835kHz and Wai FM 11665kHz actually are not really accessible in rest of Peninsular Malaysia areas. I was used to test in Teluk Intan, and Puchong. Both frequencies are China radio stations. This is because RTM shortwave radio stations never target to west directions.
They operate at 100kW power, but in terms of propagation, the receiving signal of RTM Sarawak FM SW9835kHz and Wai FM 11665kHz at my home are not strong as NHK World Japan, Voice of Korea (North Korea), KBS World Radio, Radio Nyawa Sarawak and BBC World Service.
