CityPlus FM檳城頻道建議 (PART 3): 繼星報集團Suria FM關閉亞庇頻道後, 988其實可以"放手"並關閉檳城頻道94.5! 然後94.5轉給CityPlus FM

988的姊妹馬來語電台Suria FM已經退出沙巴亞庇市場, 其亞庇頻道FM 105.9MHz也結束廣播. 兩天前, 當我來到亞庇的時候, 我發現FM 105.9MHz在亞庇已經不再廣播. 

繼Suria FM已經關閉其亞庇頻道, 為了節省電台不必要的傳輸運作開支, 其實988可以"放手"並關閉檳城頻道94.5. 跟兩年前我提過的一樣, 主要原因檳城可以通過96.1收聽988, 線路也很清晰.

在我的看法, 988在檳城廣播兩個頻道94.5和96.1是一個浪費, 96.1的覆蓋範圍比94.5大, 加上96.1都能覆蓋檳城, 為何988還不放手其檳城頻道?

除了96.1, 同時檳城南部地區還可以通過太平頻道FM 101.0MHz繼續收聽988. 我還記得2009年的時候, 988暫時關閉太平頻道101.0並呼籲太平聽眾轉去收聽94.5或96.1, 但實際上988應該關閉94.5才對, 而不是101.0.

"放手"建議不但節省開支, 這項建議也避免電台在同個地區出現重複性廣播, 這也對那些申請檳城頻道的新電台公平. 988在檳城這樣的做法, 跟部分電台霸佔頻率是毫無分別. Astro的泰米爾語電台Raaga也一樣, 檳城已經有102.4, 然後南部有102.1, 但為何還要保留99.3?

馬來西亞中文財經電台CityPlus FM目前在芙蓉, 和古晉廣播, 但檳城市場價值很高. 基本上, CityPlus FM可以通過接管988檳城頻道94.5的方式在檳城落地, 但以詳細的角度來看, 有幾個考量需要被關注:

1. "收購"或接管頻道的費用

2. MCMC的廣播執照條規

在我的立場, 如果988決定把檳城頻道94.5"放手"的話, CityPlus FM接管檳城FM 94.5MHz是毫無問題的. 關於這項放手建議, CityPlus FM, 和988必須與MCMC在一台桌子上討論投標其頻道因為雙方必須了解廣播執照條規和投標規矩. 三年前, Astro從星報集團收購Red FM和Capital FM 的事情. 在馬來西亞, 當時MCMC完全不在乎的, 但Astro收購作法在其他國家(澳洲, 紐西蘭, 新加坡)並不合法因為若有電台結束營業, 其頻率必須還給政府部門, 而不是繼續霸占而轉讓給其他電台. 新加坡新傳媒在2016年9月30號關閉XFM 96.3, 但頻率歸還給IMDA (新加坡通訊媒體部), 然後IMDA開始舉行頻率投標, 公開給新電台來競爭, 最終新加坡報業控股SPH成功得到89.3和96.3, 現在96.3是好FM.

為了不要浪費廣播頻譜, 我希望988會考慮"放手"其檳城頻道94.5, 所以CityPlus FM可以在檳城落地. 

如果988真的"放手" (關閉)檳城頻道94.5, 這項"放手"動議不會影響988的檳城聽眾因為他們可以把收音機調去96.1繼續收聽988. 看以下的廣播頻率分析, 988 96.1完全不會有干擾:

雖然RTM Mutiara FM Bukit Penara 95.7MHz和988 FM 96.1MHz Gunung Jerai覆蓋檳城, 雙方在檳城有同樣的覆蓋範圍, 所以400kHz的距離是不會造成干擾. 這因為Raaga 99.3 Bukit Penara和MY FM 99.7MHz Gunung Jerai也有同樣的現象.

若CityPlus FM成功"接管" 988檳城頻道94.5, 其傳輸和天線系統必須做出修改, 所以檳城可以收到更好的CityPlus FM. 除了檳城, 吉打南部和霹靂北部(包括太平)可以收聽CityPlus FM 94.5MHz.

On last Thursday, I realized Star Radio Group Suria FM had closed down Kota Kinabalu transmission when I arrived in Kota Kinabalu.

After Suria FM exit from Kota Kinabalu, actually its sister radio station 988FM shall let go its Penang frequency FM 94.5MHz as I mentioned 2 years ago because Penang can receive 988 on FM 96.1MHz from Gunung Jerai.

The reason I suggest 988 to let go Penang frequency 94.5MHz by closing down its transmission and returning the frequency to MCMC is not only about save costs, it is to avoid a station has coverage duplication in Penang. Suggest to let go is also to be fair to other broadcasters who are applying Penang frequency license.

Malaysia Chinese business radio station CityPlus FM operates in Seremban and Kuching currently, but Penang is a good market for CityPlus FM to expand coverage there. Generally, CityPlus FM can take over 988FM Penang frequency 94.5MHz, but in detail, it needs few considerations:

1. Bidding costs
2. MCMC regulations

In my opinion, it is not a problem that CityPlus FM takes over Penang frequency FM 94.5MHz if 988FM decides to let it go. CityPlus FM, 988 and MCMC shall have a discussion of bidding FM 94.5MHz for Penang because they have to understand about the license regulations and bidding rules in this deal.

By not wasting operation cost in Penang, I hope 988FM will consider to let go Penang frequency 94.5MHz, so CityPlus FM can operate there. In addition, Penang listeners can tune to 988 on 96.1MHz from Gunung Jerai (101.0MHz Bukit Larut is for Southern Penang).

If 988FM let go Penang frequency, it does not affect its Penang listeners because they can tune to FM 96.1MHz. Look at its RF analysis of FM 96.1MHz below, it states no interference problem.

Mutiara FM 95.7MHz Bukit Penara and 988FM 96.1MHz Gunung Jerai covers Penang, both of them are same coverage, so 400kHz frequency separation has no problem for interference. This is because Raaga FM 99.3MHz Bukit Penara and MY FM 99.7MHz Gunung Jerai have same phenomena. 

If CityPlus FM successfully bid FM 94.5MHz Bukit Penara from 988FM, the antenna system of 94.5FM should be modified in order to transmit better in Penang.

Suria FM closed down Kota Kinabalu transmission (105.9MHz)

Since July 2019, there are few listeners complaining that Suria FM 105.9MHz cannot be received in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Actually Suria FM had closed down Kota Kinabalu transmission, and the frequency 105.9MHz was returned to MCMC.

Before this, Suria FM began its trial transmission firstly in Klang Valley on 105.3MHz and Kota Kinabalu on 105.9MHz in late 2005. Suria FM broadcasts in Peninsular Malaysia and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, but minus Kuching, Sarawak. Later on, Suria FM launched Suria FM Sabah in 2012 to cater Kota Kinabalu listeners and serve Sabah better with localized content. Suria FM is operated by Star Radio Group under license holder company Rimakmur (M) Sdn Bhd, Suria FM has its Sabah studio in Kota Kinabalu, but this was not really long. During Suria FM Sabah era, there was breakfast show named "Suria Pagi Kinabalu", the content is totally different from Ceria Suria Pagi in other states. Till 2016, Suria FM Sabah was ceased operation, together with Red FM and Capital FM, but FM 105.9MHz reverted back to normal programs as other states. 

2-3 years later after ceasing operation of Suria FM Sabah, now Suria FM closed down its Kota Kinabalu frequency FM 105.9MHz transmission. The possible reason is Suria FM was unable to gain more listeners and advertising revenue. When I landed in Kota Kinabalu 2 days ago, I realized that FM 105.9MHz was nothing, this means that Suria FM exit from Sabah. If I think there is transmission down, it is not possible because transmission downtime is not such long.

In addition, another reason of Suria FM closed down in Kota Kinabalu is KK listeners prefer listening to local radio stations such as Kupi-Kupi FM, KK12FM, Hitz Sabah, MY Sabah, Voice of Kinabalu VOKFM, Sabah FM, Sabah VFM and Era FM Sabah, rather than Peninsular Malaysia based radio stations because they're more catering to Sabah listeners' needs. Besides that, these Sabah local radio stations fit to Sabah listeners' taste better by having localized content. Kupi-Kupi FM is the most successful Sabah radio station because it provides local needs by playing Sabah ethnics music, although it broadcasts in Sabah Malay language (the slang is slightly different from formal Malay language).

After Suria FM ceased transmission in Kota Kinabalu, this leaves Suria FM as Peninsular Malaysia only Malay radio station, same as its Chinese language sister radio station 988FM where never been in Sabah and Sarawak before. Generally, Star Radio Group is no longer operating any radio stations within Sabah and Sarawak and becoming "Peninsular Malaysia only" radio broadcasting company.

Stesen radio berbahasa Melayu, Suria FM telah menamatkan siarannya di Kota Kinabalu FM 105.9MHz sejak kebelakangan ini.

Sebelum ini, Suria FM bersiaran di Kota Kinabalu pada frekuensi 105.9MHz sejak Disember 2005 semasa siaran percubaan dengan frekuensi Lembah Klang FM 105.3MHz. Suria FM bersiaran di Semenanjung Malaysia dan Kota Kinabalu Sabah, tetapi tidak bersiaran di Kuching Sarawak. Kemudian, Suria FM melancarkan Suria FM Sabah pada 2012 bagi menyasarkan pendengar di sekitar Pantai Barat Sabah dengan program tempatan Sabah. Suria Pagi Kinabalu berbeza kandungan dengan Ceria Pagi di Suria di negeri lain. Suria FM dimiliki Star Radio Group dengan pemegang lesen Rimakmur (M) Sdn Bhd, Suria FM Sabah bersiaran di studio Kota Kinabalu. Sejak 2016, bersama penutupan siaran stesen kembarnya Capital FM and Red FM, Suria FM Sabah telah ditutup pada tahun yang sama.

Setelah studio Suria FM Sabah telah ditutup pada 2016, frekuensi Kota Kinabalu FM 105.9MHz masih dikekalkan, dan bersiaran dengan kandungan sama seperti negeri lain, tetapi Suria FM 105.9MHz telah ditamatkan siaran di Kota Kinabalu pada tahun  2019.

Kemungkinan besar Suria FM tidak menarik pendengar dan iklan di Kota Kinabalu, ini menyebabkan frekuensi Suria FM di Kota Kinabalu yang dipancar dari Kota Kinabalu 105.9MHz sejak Julai 2019.

Apabila saya berada di Kota Kinabalu kerana saya mempunyai projek syarikat di Lawas, Sarawak, FM 105.9MHz tiada lagi apa-apa isyarat atau kandungan Suria FM di Kota Kinabalu, frekuensi tersebut telah kosong. Pada masa itu, saya menyedari bahawa Suria FM sudah berhenti di Kota Kinabalu. Jika saya berkata Suria FM 105.9MHz mengalami masalah pemancar, ia tidak mungkin berlaku kerana masalah pemancaran seperti alat pemancar rosak (transmission down time) tidak berlaku lebih 1 bulan.

Apa saya mungkin menyedari tentang penutupan siaran Suria FM di Kota Kinabalu ialah pendengar di Sabah lebih suka mendengar stesen tempata (seperti Era Sabah, RTM Sabah FM, Kupi-Kupi FM, Voice of Kinabalu VOKFM, KK12FM, Hitz Sabah, TEA FM dan MY Sabah) daripada stesen nasional yang berasal daripada Semanjung Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur). Sebab utamanya, program stesen radio tempatan Sabah memberi lebih tumpuan kepada pendengar Sabah. Era Sabah ialah contoh, stesen tersebut bersiaran di Sabah 24 jam tanpa menyambung siaran daripada Era Semenanjung. Di samping itu, Kupi-Kupi FM 96.3MHz lebih terkenal di Kota Kinabalu, stesen tersebut bersiaran dalam Bahasa Melayu Sabah dengan lagu etnik Sabah (Murut, Kadazan, Dusun, Bajau dan Cina Sabah) dimana lebih mendekati hati pendengar Sabah.

Setelah Suria FM menamatkan pemancaran frekuensi FM 105.9MHz di Kota Kinabalu, ini bermakna bahawa Suria FM hanya bersiaran di Semenajung Malaysia setelah "keluar" dari Kota Kinabalu, bersama dengan stesen kembarnya 988FM dimana stesen 988 tidak bersiaran di Sabah dan Sarawak. Secara umumnya, Star Radio Group tidak lagi bersiaran di Sabah untuk mana-mana stesen radio, kumpulan tersebut dijadikan syarikat penyiarian "Semenanjung Malaysia sahaja".

Hot FM ditukar frekuensi Kota Kinabalu kepada 87.5MHz

Stesen radio Melayu yang dimiliki oleh Media Prima, Hot FM kini telah ditukar frekuensi di Kota Kinabalu kepada 87.5MHz (tempat pemancar masih sama) sejak kebelakangan ini.

Di Kota Kinabalu, frekuensi asal Hot FM ialah 87.7MHz. Pada dua hari lalu, saya pergi ke Kota Kinabalu kerana saya mempunyai projek syarikat di Lawas, Sarawak. Saya membuat ujian isyarat FM radio apabila saya mendarat di Kota Kinabalu, saya menyedari bahawa Hot FM bersiaran pada frekuensi 87.5MHz, bukannya lagi 87.7MHz.

Saya sedang berfikir pada masa itu mengenai frekuensi baru Hot FM Kota Kinabalu. Sebelum ini, tiada stesen radio di Malaysia bersiaran pada frekuensi 87.5MHz (kecuali Langkawi FM 87.5MHz di Kuah) kerana terdekat dengan gelombang lain untuk tujuan bukan penyiaran. Hot FM boleh dikata stesen radio Malaysia yang pertama menggunakan frekuensi 87.5MHz.

Oleh itu, jika anda ingin mendengar siaran Hot FM di Kota Kinabalu, sila tala frekuensi kepada 87.5MHz.

Hot FM Kota Kinabalu frequency is changed to FM 87.5MHz

Originally from Wow FM to Hot FM, the station's Kota Kinabalu frequency since 1998 is FM 87.7MHz from Bukit Karatong site. When Media Prima acquired Wow FM and ntv7 in 2005, then rebranded Wow FM to Hot FM as Malay language contemporary hot radio to compete Era from Astro Radio, the frequency in Kota Kinabalu is originally 87.7MHz.

I don't know that when Hot FM did change its Kota Kinabalu frequency. I recently traveled to Kota Kinabalu because of company project in Lawas, Sarawak, after I landed in Kota Kinabalu and performed radio scan, I realized that Hot FM is on FM 87.5MHz in Kota Kinabalu and Papar. This is considered as first Malaysia radio station to use 87.5MHz as previously none of them were assigned to that frequency (due to interfering to other band).

As November 2019, Hot FM operates in Kota Kinabalu on the frequency FM 87.5MHz, it is no longer operating in Kota Kinabalu on 87.7MHz. Since the frequency change, when listeners are in Kota Kinabalu, they need to tune Hot FM on 87.5MHz, not 87.7MHz.

Hot FM frequency in Kota Kinabalu is FM 87.5MHz.

THR Raaga FM can be tuned in East Pahang on 99.3 and 99.7 (with videos)

Here is the radio reception videos of Malaysia Tamil radio station Raaga in Pekan, Pahang. Due to license condition of Raaga (under Time Highway Radio THR license), Raaga is unavailable in Kuantan for the radio frequency, but Raaga can be tuned on distant frequency from distant transmitters in East Pahang.

Among all three videos, THR Raaga FM 99.3MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali has better reception and coverage than FM 99.7MHz Gunung Ledang in East Pahang. 

Raaga can still alive on 99.3 and 99.7 in East Pahang without having Kuantan frequency. This never disappoints its listeners yet in the region.

FM 102.0MHz Pedas unknown radio transmission "TEST" update: Latest answer from MCMC

Few weeks ago, I highlighted again unknown FM transmission 102.0MHz where I spotted in Pedas, Linggi and Lubuk Cina, one of video showed RDS information with "TEST" and sent few videos to MCMC.

This is the reply from MCMC that I received, I would like to thank to MCMC for the answer on my email, I'm very appreciate of MCMC for giving better answer:

Berikut dimajukan maklumbalas daripada jabatan dalaman MCMC. Namun tidak dapat mengesan sebarang pancaran radio FM pada frekuensi tersebut. Selain dari penggunaan pemancar radio FM, frekuensi ini juga boleh digunakan oleh orang awam untuk aplikasi berikut secara penguntukan kelas.

1.       Short Range Device (Jadual 2)

2.       Mikrofon tanpa wayar (Jadual 14)

Disyaki radio FM milik En Philip mungkin telah terkesan pancaran dari aplikasi yang dinyatakan di atas.

 

English translations: Following developed feedback from MCMC internal department. However MCMC cannot detect any transmission on FM radio on that frequency (FM 102.0MHz). Other than FM radio transmission purposes, the frequency can be used by public for the following application as class assignment.

1. Short Range Device (Schedule 2)

2. Wireless microphone (Schedule 14)

Suspect my radio receiver may already detect transmission from the application that stated above. 

In my opinion, I may think somebody installs a short range device in Pedas without antenna system, and comes with DEVA Broadcast Smart Gen 6.0 RDS encoder. Somehow the coverage of FM 102.0MHz is about 20km range.

There is possibility that the public uses the frequency FM 102.0MHz on short range device in Pedas Linggi for non-broadcast purposes, but under MCMC licensed class assignment.

Anyway, I would like to thank to MCMC again for providing replies regarding unknown transmission FM 102.0MHz.

Coverage simulation anaylsis: Can Lojing receive Kelantan FM if transmitted from Gunung Brinchang?

Kelantan FM is RTM state radio station for Kelantan state. As today, Kelantan FM already reaches 85% of coverage areas in Kelantan with 6 frequencies below:

- 102.9MHz Wakaf Che Yeh for Kota Bharu

- 97.3MHz Bukit Bakar for Central Kelantan (Machang)

- 90.0MHz Bukit Tangki Air for Jeli

- 107.1MHz Bukit Bintang for East Kelantan 

- 92.0MHz Bukit Chupak for Gua Musang

- 88.1MHz Felda Paloh for Paloh

One district in Kelantan where is not covered by Kelantan FM with existing transmitters, namely Lojing. 

Lojing is the most difficult Kelantan location for installing a gap filler FM transmitter for Kelantan FM because it is an ultra remote location where fully covered by high mountains and terrains. This causes radio signal cannot be received in Lojing regardless any transmitter sites. For your information, Lojing is located in southwest Kelantan, a location between Gua Musang and Cameron Highlands. When you travel from Gua Musang to Cameron Highlands, you will pass through Lojing.

Kelantan FM is not receivable in Lojing with 6 existing frequencies. So, by adding transmitter in Gunung Brinchang, Cameron Highlands to cover Lojing, is Kelantan FM receivable in Lojing?

According the coverage simulation map of Kelantan FM 105.9MHz from Gunung Brinchang for Lojing, only areas located nearby Pahang border will receive Kelantan FM. The coverage simulation map above is based on 10m receiving antenna. Overall, Lojing is still unable to receive Kelantan FM 105.9MHz from Gunung Brinchang. If RTM Kelantan FM installs transmitter in Gunung Brinchang, the listeners in Lojing still cannot receive Kelantan FM clearly. In addition, technically Kelantan FM is totally nothing signal from Gunung Brinchang in Lojing if use cheaper radio receiver unit where the receiver with shorter receiver antenna height.

In conclusion, Lojing cannot receive Kelantan FM if it has Gunung Brinchang transmitter. So, in order to cover Lojing clearly, RTM or transmission tower provider company shall do a site survey to find out suitable sites to cover Lojing, Kelantan. Unfortunately, currently there is no suitable transmitting location to cover Lojing, regardless any cellular tower within Lojing or not.

- Result: No signal in Lojing Highlands from Gunung Brinchang

- Further recommendation: Need to find suitable transmission site within Lojing Highlands to cover Lojing, Kelantan.

Adakah Lojing boleh menerima Kelantan FM jika memasang pemancar di Gunung Brinchang?

RTM Kelantan FM ialah sebuah stesen radio negeri khas untuk Kelantan. Mengenai liputannya, Kelantan FM telah meliputi 85% kawasan di negeri tersebut dengan 6 frekuensi, iaitu:

- 102.9MHz dari Wakaf Che Yeh untuk Kota Bharu

- 97.3MHz dari Bukit Bakar untuk Kelantan Tengah (Machang)

- 90.0MHz dari Bukit Tangki Air untuk Jeli

- 107.1MHz dari Bukit Bintang untuk Kelantan Timur

- 92.0MHz dari Bukit Chupak untuk Gua Musang 

- 88.1MHz dari FELDA Paloh untuk Paloh

Terdapat satu kawasan atau daerah di negeri Kelantan tidak dapat menerima siaran Kelantan FM, iaitu jajahan Lojing.

Kawasan Lojing ialah tempat yang amat sukar untuk memasang satu pemancar radio FM bagi Kelantan FM. Hal ini kerana Lojing ialah kawasan yang bertopografi dimana Lojing ialah tempat yang terlindung oleh banjaran tinggi yang menyebabkan isyarat siaran radio tidak dapat diterima situ. Untuk makluman, Lojing terletak di barat daya Kelantan, juga kawasan antara Gua Musang dan Tanah Tinggi Cameron. Biasanya anda akan melalui Lojing dulu apabila pergi Gua Musang dari Cameron Highlands.

Kelantan FM tidak dapat diterima di Lojing dengan 6 frekuensi yang sedia ada. Oleh itu, adakah menambah 1 pemancar di Gunung Brinchang, Cameron Highlands untuk meliputi Lojing, Kelantan boleh menyelesaikan masalah tersebut?

Berdasarkan pada peta liputan Kelantan FM yang dipancar dari Gunung Brinchang di Lojing, hanya kawasan yang berdekatan dengan sempadan Pahang baru boleh menerima siaran Kelantan FM. Secara keseluruhan, Lojing masih tidak dapat menerima Kelantan FM 105.9MHz dari Gunung Brinchang. Jika pemancar Kelantan FM 105.9MHz dipasang di Gunung Brinchang, pendengar Kelantan FM tidak akan menerima siaran tersebut dengan jelas di Lojing. Kalau menggunakan penerima radio yang murah dengan ketinggian antenna rendah, Kelantan FM tidak dapat diterima di Lojing secara teknikal.

Kesimpulannya, Lojing tidak boleh menerima siaran Kelantan FM jika stesen radio tersebut memasang pemancar di Gunung Brinchang. Oleh kerana itu, kemungkinan besar RTM atau pembina menara pemancaran perlu mencari kawasan yang sesuai untuk meliputi Lojing. Malangnya, setakat ini tiada tempat pemancar yang sesuai digunakan untuk meliputi Lojing, tidak kira menara selular di jajahan Lojing atau tidak.

Announcement: Raaga FM is available in Pekan, Pahang on FM 99.7MHz

Although Raaga is not available in Kuantan from Bukit Pelindung, but Raaga must be tuned via Syok mobile app and Astro DVR CH859. Somehow Kuantan can receive Raaga on FM 99.3MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali, but the reception may not be good, meanwhile Gambang definitely can receive Raaga on 99.3MHz.

THR Raaga is available in Pekan, Pahang by tuning to FM 99.7MHz from Gunung Ledang. The adjacent distance from Gunung Ledang to Pekan is about 153km. Although it is very far to receive Raaga in Pekan on FM 99.7MHz from Gunung Ledang, Johor, but it is receivable because there is no much terrain between Pekan and Gunung Ledang.

THR Raaga frequency in Pekan, Pahang is FM 99.7MHz, another frequency FM 99.3MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali (Klang Valley) also can be tuned in Pekan. You may try it! If there is any feedback, please leave comment on this post.

Malaysia is on the way to perform ASO (analogue switch off) from 30th September 2019, all terrestrial television will be converted digitally via DVB-T2 and DVB-S2 (for blind spot areas).

Since Q4 2018, MYTV launches Asiasat-9 DTH satellite transmission to fill the blind spot areas, so this indicates MYTV will not install more DTT transmitters after DTH.

After analogue television service is switched off, here are the transmission sites where only remain as FM radio service in Peninsular Malaysia:

FM 102.0MHz unknown radio station spotted in Linggi (Negeri Sembilan) and Lubuk China (Melaka)

On 5th June 2019, it was Hari Raya Aidilfitri festival in Malaysia. I had spotted FM 102.0MHz unknown radio station signal in Pedas Linggi rest station, Negeri Sembilan which the station transmits in silent mode. At the same time, I had spotted its RDS information and radio text of FM 102.0MHz on my Samsung Galaxy V Plus smartphone radio receiver.

I had spotted FM 102.0MHz transmission was equipped with DEVA Broadcast SmartGen 6.0 - Dynamic RDS/RBDS Encoder. Videos were recorded as evidence for further investigation. After I recorded the particular radio station signal, I sent these videos to Malaysia Communications Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to verify that where did FM 102.0MHz come from. Sadly I was told by MCMC that "No transmission on FM 102.0MHz in Negeri Sembilan", this meant that I was not success to find out the findings of this frequency.

Besides Rembau and Pedas, somebody sent me few videos of FM 102.0MHz silent radio station where they spotted in Lubuk China and Linggi personally, so I decided to help them to upload to YouTube as evidence.

Compare to Tampin, FM 102.0MHz was clearer in Pedas and Linggi than Tampin and Kota. So, FM 102.0MHz is not from Bukit Tampin as I mentioned previously on June blog, but I already guessed it may be from Pedas. On previous blog post of June 2019, I had mentioned FM 102.0MHz could belong to RTM where I might suspect RTM Negeri FM would add gap filler transmitter in Pedas on 102.0MHz because Negeri FM reception is not good in Pedas on 92.6, 95.7 and 107.7, so I might think Negeri FM 102.0MHz will be better in Pedas. Suspecting something did not mean to conclude, therefore I tried to ask RTM engineer for FM 102.0MHz transmission. I was told that FM 102.0MHz was not belonged to RTM yet in Negeri Sembilan, the engineers told me that Negeri FM frequency in Pedas is either 92.6MHz Gunung Telapak Burok or 95.7MHz Bukit Tampin.

The videos that I received shows that FM 102.0MHz reception is quite stable and clear in Linggi and Lubuk Cina. In addition, one of video also shows that FM 102.0MHz RDS text "TEST" appeared on his Proton Saga radio receiver when he drove from Seremban to Johor.

 Since FM 102.0MHz unknown transmission in Negeri Sembilan is considered as "unresolved case" which has no exact findings, I don't decide to conclude this blog post.

Few questions are issued where I think about FM 102.0MHz:

Question 1: If RTM confirms that FM 102.0MHz is belonged to RTM in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan, it is possible Negeri FM to use the frequency, but will RTM close down Negeri FM Bukit Tampin FM 95.7MHz as Tampin can receive 107.7MHz Gunung Ledang clearly? Then 102.0MHz substitutes 95.7MHz for Rembau area?

Question 2: If RTM claims that FM 102.0MHz is not belonged to RTM in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan, who else broadcasts on the frequency FM 102.0MHz within Negeri Sembilan? 

Question 2: If there is no apparatus assignment list of FM 102.0MHz on regulator official website, could be FM 102.0MHz classified as "unlicensed apparatus" aka "unlicensed broadcast", as FM frequency from 87.5-108MHz is licensed band by MCMC?

Question 3: If a broadcaster operates FM 102.0MHz in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan without MCMC knowledge, is it against the law for not applying apparatus assignment?

Question 4: The frequency FM 102.0MHz has been on transmission in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan for more than 2 years, would it breach MCMC apparatus assignment regulations?

Question 5: What is the purpose of FM 102.0MHz testing in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan for more than 2 years?

CityPlus FM 106.0MHz Klang Valley and Seremban transmission is inspired by Australia radio station

Malaysia's first Chinese business radio station CityPlus FM was launched on 2nd May 2017. Its transmission for Klang Valley is from Gunung Telapak Burok, Negeri Sembilan on FM 106.0MHz.

Why does the station choose Gunung Telapak Burok, not Gunung Ulu Kali, Bukit Sungai Besi or Kuala Lumpur Tower? This is because:

1. Gunung Ulu Kali, Bukit Sungai Besi and Kuala Lumpur Tower have no more available frequency. Therefore, Gunung Telapak Burok which covers Negeri Sembilan is the final choice, and it is receivable in Southern Klang Valley. The frequency is still available in Gunung Telapak Burok, so CityPlus FM uses Gunung Telapak Burok to cover Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan, also can be received in part of Melaka/Johor, as well as Central Pahang.

2. Back to 2017, I was used to suggest CityPlus FM to use FM 106.1MHz in Gunung Ulu Kali to cover Klang Valley clearly. Unfortunately, my suggestion would cause interference to RTM Nasional FM 106.2MHz Bukit Fraser coverage. In addition, I may believe RTM Nasional FM Bukit Fraser was assigned on 106.2MHz by MCMC within late 2016. While I did suggestion to move CityPlus FM transmission to Gunung Ulu Kali on 106.1MHz in early 2017, I definitely never realized RTM Nasional FM used 106.2MHz in Bukit Fraser. Until 31st December 2017, I only detected RTM Nasional FM 106.2MHz transmission from Bukit Fraser in Lanchang and Karak, Pahang when I traveled to Kuala Gandah Elephant Farm with my family, then I discovered RTM Nasional FM 106.2MHz was established in Bukit Fraser to cover Raub where Gunung Ulu Kali reception is poor there.

Regarding CityPlus FM 106.0MHz transmission from Gunung Telapak Burok, in my opinion, it is inspired by certain Australian radio stations. I was used to be in Brisbane for business event about 2 weeks, I also tuned to few of the radio stations there. I observed that few of Australia radio stations did not hold Brisbane area broadcast license, but they could be received in Brisbane, few of them were still clear. Australia radio station River 94.9FM transmission looks like CityPlus FM 106.0.

About River 94.9FM, this radio station is based in Ipswich, Queensland state, Australia, and transmitted from The Knobby hill, The Knobby is located in Ipswich region. Transmit at 50kW effective radiated power, it can be received in Logan, Brisbane, Caboolture, Ipswich, Toowoomba and Gold Coast.

On highway from Gold Coast to Brisbane, I could listen to River 94.9FM clearly.

CityPlus FM 92.5MHz is based in Kuching, Sarawak. It is transmitted from Bukit Djin and it can be received in:

CityPlus FM 92.5MHz from Kuching can be received in Sibu, Sarawak?

CityPlus FM 92.5MHz is a Chinese business radio station based in Kuching, Sarawak. It is transmitted from Bukit Djin, mainly for Kuching. It can be received in Serian, Bau, Sebangan, Simunjan, Siburan and Kota Samarahan.

Surprisingly, CityPlus FM 92.5MHz from Bukit Djin can be received in Sibu, Sarawak. On 16th September 2019, I went to Sibu for business event. After I landed Sibu airport, I went to the town by Grab Car. So, I asked permission from Grab driver for borrowing radio. Then, I tried to tune to FM 92.5MHz in Sibu.

From Sibu airport to Sibu town, it takes 20-25 minutes. While I was on my way to Sibu town, I could receive CityPlus FM 92.5MHz from Kuching at the midway between airport and town. When I reached Sibu town, CityPlus FM 92.5MHz became no signal. For your information, CityPlus FM 92.5MHz is only available in part of Sibu, but the reception is subject to the location and radio receiver quality.

Distance between Sibu to Bukit Djin is about 190km.
