On 23rd February 2025, I went to South Johor areas such as Kulai, Senai, Kota Tinggi, Skudai and Ulu Tiram to perform radio signal monitoring of Eight FM 105.3MHz and 88.1MHz under day trip.
After 3 months, I come to South Johor areas again to check the signal of Eight FM on 105.3MHz which is transmitted from Taman Sentosa, Johor Bahru, but different receiving locations. At this time, I make another 7 radio signal monitoring locations in South Johor, covering Johor Bahru, Pengerang, Pasir Gudang, Gelang Patah, Desaru, Bandar Penawar and Iskandar Puteri.
In Johor Bahru areas, we can tune many radio stations from local, Singapore and Batam, Indonesia. For Malaysia radio stations, most of Johor Bahru radio stations are transmitted from Gunung Pulai, but Eight FM 105.3MHz is the only JB radio station which is not transmitted from Gunung Pulai, instead JB town's Taman Sentosa tower. Hence, this makes me interested to monitor its signal in surrounding areas of Johor Bahru.
Melody FM is different case because it has Gunung Pulai transmitter on 98.4MHz, but it covers Kulai, Skudai, Senai, Pontian, Kota Tinggi, part of Johor Bahru and Central Johor, meanwhile 103.3MHz is a supplementary transmitter in Johor Bahru which is transmitted from Metropolis Tower to cover Johor Bahru City where 98.4MHz is less clear.
1. Johor Bahru
2. Pasir Gudang
3. Iskandar Puteri
4. Gelang Patah
5. Pengerang
6. Bandar Penawar
7. Desaru
By comparing my radio reception of this radio station where I recorded on 23rd February 2025, Eight FM 105.3MHz is clear in Johor Bahru, Senai, Skudai, Pasir Gudang, and Ulu Tiram, but it has ultra weak signal in Pengerang, Desaru and Bandar Penawar meanwhile Eight FM 105.3MHz has co-channel interference with RTM Johor FM 105.3MHz Gunung Ledang transmitter in Kulai, Iskandar Puteri and Gelang Patah.
In Gelang Patah and Iskandar Puteri, Eight FM 88.1MHz from Gunung Ledang is clearer than 105.3MHz from Taman Sentosa.
Eight FM 105.3MHz has strong adjacent channel interference noise of Radio Republik Indonesia RRI Batam PRO-1 FM 105.1MHz in Pengerang, Johor.
Frankly, Eight FM 105.3MHz can be received in Bandar Penawar and Desaru weakly, despite its transmitter power is just 0.05kW because Eight FM is using directional antenna and the signal is beaming to northeast direction from Taman Sentosa. So, Bandar Penawar and Desaru are the furthest coverage of Eight FM 105.3MHz JB frequency from Taman Sentosa transmission tower.
1. 新山 Johor Bahru
Pasir Gudang
Iskandar Puteri
Gelang Patah
Pengerang
6. Bandar Penawar
7. Desaru
RTM Sandakan FM is a Sabah local radio station for Sandakan Division, it broadcasts on the frequency 90.1MHz, transmitted from Bukit Trig. RTM Sandakan FM 90.1MHz covers Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Pamol, Telupid and Beluran, but it can be tuned in Lahad Datu on the same frequency.
Beyond Lahad Datu, RTM Sandakan FM 90.1MHz from Bukit Trig can be received moderately in Tawau Division too.
Sabah radio DXer, Kisah Alkisah recently published the radio reception videos of tuning RTM Sandakan FM 90.1MHz in Tawau and Kunak.
1. Tawau (178-180km)
2. Kunak (130km)
By comparing with other Sandakan radio stations (example: Era FM Sabah 103.0MHz and Hitz FM 99.8MHz), RTM Sandakan FM 90.1MHz is clearer.
In Tawau and Kunak, the radio signal of RTM Sandakan FM 90.1MHz is moderately clear.
Overall, outside Sandakan Division, RTM Sandakan FM 90.1MHz is still available in Lahad Datu, Kunak, Tawau and Semporna. Both Sandakan FM and Tawau FM can cover the entire east coast region of Sabah.
Semporna is the most southeastern location in Sabah which is located in Semporna District of Tawau Division, Sabah.
Here is a list of available radio stations in Semporna, Sabah.
* RTM Radio Klasik FM: 87.9MHz (Gunung Silam)
* RTM Traxx FM: 90.5MHz (Gunung Silam)
* RTM Ai FM: 91.7MHz (Gunung Silam)
* RTM Sabah VFM: 92.6MHz (Gunung Silam)
* RTM Nasional FM: 89.1MHz (Bukit Kemiri)
* RTM Sabah FM: 91.1MHz (Bukit Kemiri)
* RTM Tawau FM: 88.3MHz (Bukit Kemiri)
* RTM Sandakan FM: 90.1MHz (Bukit Trig)
* IKIM FM: 107.3MHz (Gunung Silam)
* RTM Wai FM: SW 11665kHz (RTM Kajang, Selangor)
* Radio Republik Indonesia RRI Nunukan PRO-1 FM 96.3MHz (Nunukan)/91.5MHz (Sebatik Island)
According to Sabah radio DXer, Kisah Alkisah, Astro radio stations from Sandakan's Bukit Trig like Era FM Sabah 103.0MHz, Hitz FM 99.8MHz, Melody FM 102.2MHz, Sinar FM 106.9MHz and MY FM 100.6MHz cannot be received in Semporna, even in Tawau.
In Semporna, RTM radio stations are mostly covered by Gunung Silam transmitter, but RTM launched the gap filler transmitter in Bukit Kemiri for 3 radio stations (Nasional FM, Sabah FM and Tawau FM) to cover Semporna clearly. Before this, these radio stations were tuned in Semporna via Gunung Silam transmitter before launching of Bukit Kemiri transmitter in 2017 by following frequencies below.
1. RTM Nasional FM 88.7MHz
2. RTM Sabah FM 89.7MHz
3. RTM Tawau FM 93.6MHz
Next, for IKIM FM, this Islamic radio station is tuned in Semporna, Sabah on 107.3MHz from Gunung Silam, meanwhile 100.7MHz from Gunung Andrassy signal is weak there. Comparing both frequencies, IKIM FM 107.3MHz is clearer than 100.7MHz in Semporna, Sabah.
Same as Tawau, radio stations from Indonesia (Nunukan) can be tuned in Semporna, Sabah, Malaysia, Radio Republik Indonesia RRI Nunukan PRO-1 can be tuned clearly on FM 96.3MHz there, but FM 91.5MHz Sebatik Island relay can be tuned in Semporna too with adjacent channel interference noise of RTM Ai FM 91.7MHz from Gunung Silam transmitter.
RTM Wai FM on SW11665kHz can be tuned moderately in Semporna, Sabah because the transmission from RTM Kajang beams the signal to entire Borneo Island, so this makes Wai FM SW 11665kHz available in entire Sabah and Sarawak region.

In Sarawak, Hot FM broadcasts only in Kuching on 94.3MHz, transmitted from Gunung Serapi, it is also receivable in Saratok District of Betong Division, part of Sri Aman and Serian.
Two weeks ago, I had managed to receive Hot FM 94.3MHz signal in 6 areas of Sarawak such as Simanggang, Engkilili, Pakan, Debak, Roban and Saratok, but recently the Bintulu radio DXer, Shafik1995 tuned Hot FM in Bintulu, Sarawak on the frequency 99.5MHz from Gunung Telapak Buruk, Negeri Sembilan on 30th May 2025.
The signal of Hot FM 99.5MHz was clear with statics in Bintulu, Sarawak without the adjacent channel interference noise of local radio station (Ai FM 99.3MHz from Bukit Setiam).
Hot FM 99.5MHz Gunung Telapak Buruk transmitter radio reception in Bintulu, Sarawak which received on 30th May 2025 was an overspill signal in Sporadic E propagation.
There was no adjacent channel interference noise of RTM Ai FM 99.3MHz Bukit Setiam transmitter when tuned to Hot FM 99.5MHz in Bintulu, Sarawak because:
1. The sensitivity of the radio receiver by Shafik1995 is very high, it can eliminate the interference noise of the adjacent station. At 100kHz frequency separation between distant and local radio stations, certain radio receivers have no interference at all.
2. Bukit Setiam is located in Tatau, Sarawak. It is 26km to Bintulu town. Hence, there is no obvious interference noise, but if we tune to Hot FM 99.5MHz Sporadic E signal from Gunung Telapak Buruk in the vicinity of Bukit Setiam, surely we will hear the interference noise.
3. Inversely if RTM Ai FM 99.3MHz is transmitted from Bukit Nyabau, instead of Bukit Setiam, I think Shafik1995 would detect the interference noise of this radio station when he tuned Hot FM 99.5MHz in Bintulu, Sarawak.
==Hot FM 99.5MHz Gunung Telapak Buruk radio reception in Bintulu, Sarawak==
* Frequency: FM 99.5MHz
* Power: 2kW
* Transmitter site: Gunung Telapak Buruk, Negeri Sembilan
* Receiving site: Bintulu, Sarawak
* Distance: 1221km
* Receiving date/time: 30th May 2025 1508 hours (UTC+8)
* Receiver: Clarion (Tuner IC Sanyo LA1863+LA1175) [ANALOG PLL]
* Antenna type: Electronic windscreen antenna
* Propagation type: Sporadic E
Before this, Shafik1995 also received Hot FM in Bintulu on 104.5MHz from Gunung Kledang (Ipoh) and 90.5MHz from Bukit Larut (Taiping) via Sporadic E propagation.
RTM Ai FM operates on the frequency 93.6MHz in Bukit Kayu Malam for Sarikei, Roban and Saratok, but Nasional FM is also using same frequency in Off Spaoh transmitter for Spaoh, Betong and Debak.
When both radio stations are using same frequency, despite different targeting location, there is co-channel interference on FM 93.6MHz in certain areas.
Between Saratok to Debak, RTM Ai FM 93.6MHz from Bukit Kayu Malam and Nasional FM 93.6MHz from Off Spaoh have co-channel interference in several areas such as Mendas and Kedap.
The co-channel interference between Ai FM and Nasional FM does not affect the listeners to tune the radio broadcast in the interference areas because both Ai FM and Nasional FM can be tuned via Bukit Temudok transmitter.
In Mendas and Kedap,
* Ai FM can be tuned clearly on 105.3MHz from Bukit Temudok
* Nasional FM can be tuned clearly on 98.9MHz from Bukit Temudok
The radio reception of Ai FM on 96.0MHz from Off Spaoh transmitter and Nasional FM on 90.3MHz from Bukit Kayu Malam are not clear in Mendas and Kedap, compared to 105.3MHz and 98.9MHz from Bukit Temudok.
RTM Radio Klasik in Mukah and Cats FM in Bintulu (Bukit Setiam) are using same frequency on 88.3MHz. As Bukit Setiam radio signal can reach Mukah Division, so this causes the co-channel interference between Radio Klasik and Cats FM in the areas between Mukah and Balingian.
However, the co-channel interference between Radio Klasik (Mukah) and Cats FM (Bukit Setiam Bintulu) on FM 88.3MHz in Balingian, Penipah and Matadeng does not affect the radio coverage at all because both parties have alternative frequencies where the listeners can tune clearly in affected areas.
==Alternative frequencies in Mukah Division when Radio Klasik and Cats FM have co-channel interference on FM 88.3MHz==
* Cats FM: 97.9MHz from Mukah or 99.9MHz from Bukit Singgalang
* RTM Radio Klasik: 87.9MHz from Bukit Setiam or 93.3MHz from Bukit Singgalang
For RTM Radio Klasik, when its Mukah frequency 88.3MHz has co-channel inteference from Penipah (Mukah outskirt) to Balingian, it can be tuned even clearly on 87.9MHz which is transmitted from Bukit Setiam.
It is 2 years anniversary of OOGA X launching Kupi-Kupi FM Sarawak on 92.5MHz in Kuching, Sarawak as the new Sarawak Malay language commercial radio station after Cats FM and Era FM Sarawak.
Until today, Kupi-Kupi FM Sarawak 92.5MHz is only available in Kuching, Kota Samarahan and part of Serian. It has not expanded to other Sarawak major towns/cities outside Kuching yet.
To compete with Era FM Sarawak and Cats FM, I suggest Kupi-Kupi FM Sarawak to add tuning frequencies in 4 major towns of Sarawak with 4 strategic transmitter sites by following below:
1. Bukit Lambir for Miri, but it can be tuned in part of Brunei. (Suggested frequency: FM 94.3MHz)
2. Bukit Lima for Sibu and Sarikei (Suggested frequency: FM 106.7MHz)
3. Bukit Setiam for Bintulu, Mukah and Selangau (Suggested frequency: FM 102.8MHz)
4. Bukit Temudok for Sri Aman and Betong (Suggested frequency: FM 93.1MHz)
I believe these 4 transmitter sites have empty frequencies slots, but coverage expansion is about the budget/financial plan of OOGA X because it needs more money to do so.
It is not necessary to expand the coverage of Kupi-Kupi FM Sarawak in Limbang, Sarawak because the market value is low there, somewhat Limbang is surrounded by Brunei border.
In addition, it is also not necessary to add clear frequencies in Sarikei (Bukit Kayu Malam), Mukah and Selangau (Bukit Singgalang) because the suggested strategic transmitter sites (Bukit Setiam and Bukit Lima) can cover these areas moderately.
Outside Kuching, Kupi-Kupi FM Sarawak can be tuned weakly on 92.5MHz in Simanggang and Engkilili where I tuned 2 weeks ago.
From Sibu to Kapit, when you're listening to Cats FM on Sibu frequency on 88.4MHz (TX_Bukit Lima), but you may realize that Cats FM 88.4MHz has no signal in middle way during your journey to Kapit.
This usually happens when you reach Kanowit.
In Kanowit, Sarawak, Cats FM cannot be tuned on 88.4MHz from Bukit Lima transmitter. When I was in Kanowit two weeks ago, I also checked Cats FM radio signal.
While 88.4MHz has no signal in Kanowit, actually Cats FM can be tuned in Kanowit on 99.9MHz from Bukit Singgalang, but the signal is not clear.
From Kanowit to Kapit, Cats FM 99.9MHz has no signal anymore and it starts to have interference by RTM Sibu FM 99.8MHz Bukit Song transmitter near Song, Sarawak. Unlike RTM radio stations, Cats FM has no local transmitter in Bukit Song to cover that tiny town in Kapit Division, Sarawak, but the tuning frequency of Cats FM in Song, Sarawak is likely 107.6MHz from Bukit Kapit.
Cats FM has Kapit frequency on 107.6MHz, it was launched since September 2019 and transmitted from Bukit Kapit at 0.5kW transmitter power.
RTM radio stations in Bukit Kapit are only operating at 0.1kW transmitter power per station, but Cats FM 107.6MHz is at 0.5kW, so Cats FM's Bukit Kapit transmitter coverage is wider than RTM. By generating the radio coverage map of Bukit Kapit transmitter at 0.5kW transmission power can reach a weaker signal in Song, Sarawak.
In conclusion, between Sibu and Kapit, Cats FM is tuned in:
* Kanowit on 99.9MHz from Bukit Singgalang (weaker signal)
* Song on 107.6MHz from Bukit Kapit (weaker signal)
Although RTM Bintulu FM 97.5MHz Bukit Setiam transmitter mainly covers Bintulu, Tatau, and Sebauh in Bintulu Division, Sarawak, but this radio station is also available in part of Mukah Division and Miri Division on the same frequency.
In 2024 and 2025, I managed to receive RTM Bintulu FM 97.5MHz in few distant locations outside Bintulu Division.
1. Batu Niah (130km)
2. Bekenu (158km)
3. Mukah (92km)
4. Dalat (112km)
5. Sibu town (143km)
In Batu Niah and Bekenu, Wai FM Iban "Rentak Ngalihari" is receivable weakly via Bintulu FM 97.5MHz when Miri FM airs Radio Kayan and Talidio Kenyah from 3pm to 6pm.
Alongside 3 hours local Malay broadcast from 9am to 12pm daily, RTM Bintulu FM 97.5MHz mostly relays Wai FM Iban from Kuching, so the listeners in these distant coverage of Bintulu FM 97.5MHz can tune to Wai FM Iban clearly by following frequencies below.
It has been 6 years of Hitz FM launched Sibu frequency on 105.1MHz, transmitted from Bukit Lima.
The main coverage of Hitz FM 105.1MHz is Sibu, but it can be tuned in surrounding areas like Bintangor, Sarikei, and Julau, but it also can be received in distant locations such as Selangau, Dalat and Kanowit with weak signal.
Last week on 18th May 2025, I went to Sibu for 4 days 3 nights with outstation in 11 locations outside Sibu.
Alongside Era FM Sarawak 96.3MHz, Tea FM 100.7MHz and MY FM 105.9MHz, Hitz FM 105.1MHz was also my focusing radio station in my Sarawak trip.
As May 2025, I had conducted radio signal monitoring of Hitz FM 105.1MHz in 3 locations of Central Sarawak covering Sarikei, Dalat and Kanowit.
Among 3 distant locations, Kanowit was the weakest coverage of Hitz FM 105.1MHz Bukit Lima transmitter. Hitz FM 105.1MHz is the clearest coverage in Sarikei, meanwhile it is moderately weak in Dalat where is located in Mukah Division.
Before reaching Dalat, I also attempted to receive Hitz FM 105.1MHz in Mukah, Sarawak, however I couldn't listen anything on that frequency because it had strong frequency leakage interference from Cats FM 97.9MHz Mukah transmitter. When I tuned Hitz FM 105.1MHz in Mukah, I could only hear frequency leakage signal of Cats FM 97.9MHz.
==Radio reception of Hitz FM 105.1MHz Bukit Lima transmitter in distant coverage of Central Sarawak (May 2025)==
Do you know? Malaysia's No.1 radio station, Hot FM can be received in Northern Betong Division and part of Sri Aman Divison via 94.3MHz from Gunung Serapi.
In Sarawak, Hot FM only broadcasts in Kuching on the frequency 94.3MHz, transmitted from Gunung Serapi. Its main coverage areas are Kuching, Bau, Sematan, Kota Samarahan, Simunjan, Sebuyau and part of Serian.
In Betong and Sri Aman Divisions, Hot FM 94.3MHz can be tuned in Kabong, Roban, Saratok, Pusa, Maludam, Engkilili, Simanggang, Lingga and part of Debak.
1. Simanggang (147km)
2. Engkilili (172km)
3. Debak (138km)
4. Saratok (129km)
5. Roban (129km)
6. Kabong by Sarawak Radio & TV (106km)
Among 5 receiving locations in Sarawak, Saratok is the best town to receive Hot FM 94.3MHz from Gunung Serapi. It is loud and clear in Saratok, Sarawak with STEREO signal. Although Hot FM 94.3MHz has 100kHz frequency separation with RTM Sarawak FM 94.4MHz Off Spaoh transmitter, but there had no interference noise of RTM Sarawak FM 94.4MHz when I was listening to Hot FM 94.3MHz in Saratok on 19th May 2025 before departing to Sibu.
Hot FM 94.3MHz is slightly weaker in Roban and Engkilili, compare to Saratok.
I had not approached Kabong and Pusa as they were not listed in my locations of FM DX: Sarawak 2025 (PART 1). As Kabong and Pusa are located at coastal areas of Betong Division, but I may believe that Hot FM 94.3MHz is louder and clearer there because Gunung Serapi radio transmission can overspill signal to Kabong, Madulam and Pusa.
In Debak and Simanggang, Hot FM 94.3MHz Gunung Serapi transmitter has adjacent channel interference noise from RTM Sarawak FM 94.4MHz Off Spaoh transmitter. Before having breakfast at a restaurant in Simanggang town by eating my favorite Mee Pok, I monitored Hot FM 94.3MHz signal by using car radio. If I used TECSUN PL-380 and PL-310ET radio receiver to tune Hot FM 94.3MHz in Simanggang, the frequency was completely interfered by Sarawak FM 94.4MHz.
RTM Sarawak FM 94.4MHz Off Spaoh transmitter has clear distant signal in Simanggang town, causing Hot FM 94.3MHz has interference from this radio station. The main coverage of RTM Sarawak FM 94.4MHz Off Spaoh transmitter are Debak, Spaoh and Betong. In Saratok, Sarawak FM can be tuned loudly and clearly via 91.5MHz from Bukit Kayu Malam when 94.4MHz is interfered by Hot FM 94.3MHz, meanwhile 100.3MHz from Bukit Temudok has moderate signal there.
On Pan Borneo Highway, from Kuching to Sibu, Hot FM 94.3MHz can be tuned clearly until Sri Aman (Simanggang), then adjacent channel interference with Sarawak FM 94.4MHz Off Spoah transmitter starts from Temudok to Debak. In Spaoh and Betong, Hot FM 94.3MHz cannot be tuned totally due to Sarawak FM 94.4MHz. After that, Hot FM 94.3MHz is available again from Debak to Roban when RTM Sarawak FM 94.4MHz becomes weak in Mendas (area between Saratok and Debak).
Hot FM 94.3MHz coverage availability in Sarawak (based on Pan Borneo Highway):
1. Kuching>>Serian
2. Serian>>Sri Aman (weak signal)
3. Sri Aman>>Betong (interference with RTM Sarawak FM 94.4MHz Off Spaoh transmitter)
4. Betong>>Debak (signal is completely null due to Sarawak FM 94.4MHz)
5. Debak>>Roban (moderate signal)
6. Roban>>Sebangkoi (frequency leakage signal from Bukit Kayu Malam transmitters, RTM or Cats FM)
7. Sebangkoi>>Pakan (no signal)
8. Pakan>>Bintangor (weak signal)
In Sarikei Division, Hot FM 94.3MHz signal can be detected weakly near Pakan, Sarawak when I drove to Sibu on Pan Borneo Highway.
