Penerimaan siaran Kelantan FM di Jerantut, Pahang (2022/23)

Dari Julai 2022 sehingga Mac 2023, saya menerima siaran Kelantan FM di beberapa buah kawasan Jerantut, Pahang.

Di Jerantut, penerimaan siaran radio Kelantan FM pada frekuensi 97.3MHz dari Bukit Bakar kurang jelas dan lemah, manakala isyarat 102.9MHz dari Wakaf Che Yeh yang sangat lemah boleh dikesan di Kuala Tembeling.

Secara majoriti, Kelantan FM 97.3MHz Bukit Bakar ditindih oleh Traxx FM 97.4MHz dari Gunung Ledang di Jerantut, Pahang.

Secara keseluruhan, berbanding dengan stesen radio lain yang saya menerima di Bandar Jerantut pada Julai 2022 dan Mac 2023, RTM Kelantan FM 97.3MHz dari Bukit Bakar ialah stesen radio yang paling jauh diterima di Bandar Jerantut, Pahang.

Voice of Vietnam VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz (An Giang) received in Kelantan, Malaysia (PART 1): Ketereh

In Kelantan state of Malaysia, alongside local radio stations, we can also follow Thailand FM radio broadcast from Narathiwat, Sungai Golok and Yala as Kelantan is next to Thailand border.

Surprisingly, my friend from Kelantan sent me a video which he received a Vietnam FM radio station in Kelantan on last Saturday. It is on Voice of Vietnam VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz from An Giang province (Transmitter site: Núi Cấm), received in Ketereh, Kelantan, Malaysia on 11th March 2023 approximately 0910 hours.

 

I can't comment that this Vietnam radio station tuned in Ketereh, Kelantan, Malaysia is tropospheric or normal propagation because Voice of Vietnam VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz from An Giang (Núi Cấm) is far adjacent to Kelantan, Malaysia, somewhat VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz is using high power radio transmitter.

From above, Voice of Vietnam VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz from An Giang (Núi Cấm) radio reception had much static tuned in Ketereh, Kelantan, Malaysia, and it could have adjacent channel interference with RTM Kelantan FM 102.9MHz from Wakaf Che Yeh which is local transmitter.

I may believe that Voice of Vietnam VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz An Giang frequency could be received in Bachok, Pengkalan Chepa and Cherang Ruku because they are Kelantan coastal areas. In addition, these 3 locations are far adjacent to An Giang, Vietnam.

Between Kelantan costal areas and An Giang, Vietnam, there are no having terrains, so I think VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz could overspill its signal to Kelantan. I feel interested to check this radio station in Kelantan coastal areas actually.

Kuala Tahan is a location in Jerantut district, Pahang which is an entry point to Taman Negara (Malaysia National Park), it is 69km from Jerantut town.

About the radio stations in Kuala Tahan, only RTM radio stations are available there, transmitted from Bukit Istana where it is located in Jerantut town (Receiving distance: 51km).

Tahukah anda, Radio IKIM FM boleh diterima di Jerantut, Pahang.

Untuk makluman, sebahagian kawasan daerah Jerantut (tidak termasuk Kuala Tembeling, Damak dan Kuala Tahan) masih boleh menerima siaran IKIM FM pada frekuensi FM 102.7MHz yang dipancar dari Gunung Telapak Buruk.

Penerimaan siaran IKIM FM di Bandar Jerantut, Pahang pada frekuensi FM 102.7MHz boleh dikatakan sederhana hingga lemah, manakala 91.5MHz dari Gunung Ulu Kali dan 89.5MHz dari Gunung Ledang lebih lemah daripada 102.7MHz dari Gunung Telapak Buruk.

Back to 2020, Senn Lens received a Vietnam radio station on FM 93.1MHz in several areas of Kelantan state (Kota Bharu areas). 

 FM 93.1MHz is An Giang Radio-Television Station ATV, transmitted from Nui Cam Mountain (705m above sea level), An Giang Province, Vietnam.

An Giang Radio Station FM 93.1MHz was tuned in five Kelantan locations by Senn Lens from February 2020 to March 2020.

4. Chabang Empat, Tumpat (575km)

Transmission distance is between 573-577km.

Can Kelantan and Terengganu coastal areas receive Vietnam digital terrestrial television signal, despite Vietnam is using DVB-T2 standard?

Vietnam is a socialist republic country in ASEAN, it is also a communist country (but not isolated like North Korea). Regarding its digital terrestrial television switchover, despite China has its DTT standard, known as DTMB, but Vietnam does not follow China to use DTMB standard, instead DVB-T2.

Same with Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Myanmar, DVB-T2 is Vietnam's digital terrestrial television standard.

In Kelantan and North Terengganu, Malaysia, these region can receive Thailand TV channels, alongside local channels, but as Kelantan and Terengganu are located in east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, so it is interesting whether Vietnam TV channels can be tuned in coastal areas of Kelantan and North Terengganu or not via DVB-T2 UHF signal.

The southwestern Vietnam province An Giang where is far opposite to Kelantan and North Terengganu (divided by South China Sea) has DVB-T2 television services.

In An Giang province, there are two high power FM radio stations (An Giang radio station FM 93.1MHz or Voice of Vietnam VOV-3 FM 102.7MHz) where can be likely tuned in coastal areas of Northeast Kelantan and North Terengganu, regardless tropospheric or normal propagation. As FM and DVB-T2 are on different radio frequency band, but I'm curious if some people who stay in Bachok, Cherang Ruku, Pengkalan Chepa, Tumpat, East Kota Bharu, Kuala Besut and Setiu coastal areas can receive Vietnam digital terrestrial TV channels or not.

Vietnam digital terrestrial TV frequency in An Giang is UHF 490MHz (CH23), transmitted from Núi Cấm. In addition, An Giang has two digital UHF frequencies on UHF 570MHz (CH33) and UHF 578MHz (CH34), but they are standard definition commercial digital terrestrial television.

An Giang DVB-T2 multiplex on UHF 490MHz/CH23 is belonged to Vietnam Television (VTV).

Núi Cấm is also the transmitter site Voice of Vietnam VOV-3/4 FM 102.7MHz and An Giang TV & Radio Broadcasting Company FM 93.1MHz, its site elevation is 705 meters above sea level.

 

Although DVB-T2 and analogue TV are on UHF band, but digital terrestrial television signal propagation is slightly lesser than analogue TV (PAL/SECAM/NTSC). 

 

Generally it is quite impossible to receive Vietnam digital terrestrial television channels from An Giang in coastal areas of Kelantan and North Terengganu, Malaysia as DVB-T2 propagation does not overspill much signal as analogue TV and FM radio, unless there is tropospheric propagation and TV viewers install another outdoor antenna to beam to east direction to receive Vietnam TV channels from Nui Cam, An Giang Province.

Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV) availability in Malaysia via shortwave and mediumwave

 

The Vietnam national radio station, Voice of Vietnam (VOV) is actually available in Malaysia via radio waves tuning, alongside with online streaming.

 

In Malaysia, VOV can be tuned through shortwave and mediumwave radio frequencies. Only VOV-1, VOV-2, and VOV-4 are certainly available, meanwhile VOV-5 is an external radio service.

For Voice of Vietnam AM frequencies tuned in Malaysia, the 711kHz (VOV-1), 783kHz (VOV-2) and 873kHz (VOV-4) are transmitted from Can Tho City, they are the clearest tuning frequencies in Peninsular Malaysia so far, meanwhile newly launched VOV-1 transmitter AM 1071kHz from Ninh Thuan Province is mostly available in East Malaysia such as Sarawak, Labuan and Sabah, as well as neighboring country Brunei.

 

Note: AM 711kHz/783kHz/873kHz are only available in Malaysia from evening onwards after sunset, it is not available during daylight reception. However, coastal areas in Kelantan and North Terengganu may receive Voice of Vietnam AM frequencies from Can Tho all day long.

 

Voice of Vietnam VOV-1 on SW 11720kHz is transmitted from Hanoi-Sontay. Its broadcast hours are from 6:45am to 12am (Malaysia time), but it includes VOV-4 program from 6.30pm to 9.30pm (Malaysia time), based on short-wave.info website.

Unexpectedly, several Voice of Vietnam FM radio stations can be received in Malaysia via tropospheric and Sporadic E propagation.

Siaran Perak FM 104.1MHz tidak boleh diterima di Seberang Perai Utara seperti Penaga, Kepala Batas dan Tasek Gelugor serta Pulau Pinang Utara seperti Tanjung Bungah, Batu Ferringhi dan Teluk Bahang.

 

Kuasa pemancar Perak FM 104.1MHz Bukit Larut ialah 0.25kW. Sejak RTM telah menukar alat sistem pemancar radio Bukit Larut, siaran Perak FM 104.1MHz boleh didengari lebih jelas di Pulau Pinang.

 

Selain itu, pendengar di sebahagian negeri Kedah seperti Bandar Baharu, Kulim dan Serdang boleh menerima siaran Perak FM 104.1MHz.

Traxx FM can be tuned alternatively in Raub, Pahang via FM 97.4MHz from Gunung Ledang when the radio reception of FM 100.1MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali becomes weak.

In 2017, RTM added gap filler transmitters in Fraser's Hill (Bukit Fraser) to cover Raub where it is a blind spot location of Gunung Ulu Kali transmitter. Regarding the radio stations, RTM only launched four radio stations there such as:

* Nasional FM 106.2MHz

* Pahang FM 102.2MHz

* Ai FM 97.1MHz

Transmitter power is only 0.125kW, meanwhile Traxx FM, Asyik FM and Minnal FM are not available of their transmitters in Fraser's Hill like 4 radio stations above. I had asked RTM regarding Traxx FM Fraser's Hill transmitter, I was informed by RTM that MCMC turned down the transmission approval of Traxx FM, Asyik FM and Minnal FM in Fraser's Hill due to interference and unavailability of the frequencies.

In conjunction with World Radio Day 2023 which falls on 13th February 2023 (Monday), I come to Raub and Sungai Koyan for FM DXing on 12th February 2023 (Sunday) to celebrate World Radio Day one day in advance. Hence, I film Traxx FM 97.4MHz Gunung Ledang radio reception video in Raub, Pahang.

Traxx FM radio reception is weak and no signal in several Raub locations on 100.1MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali. Alternatively Traxx FM can be tuned on 97.4MHz from Gunung Ledang, radio reception of 97.4MHz is slightly better than 100.1MHz, but it is still moderate to weak.

FM 97.4MHz from Gunung Ledang is an another alternative frequency of Traxx FM in Raub, Pahang when 100.1MHz radio reception is poor.

In most of Raub areas, Traxx FM 100.1MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali radio reception is stronger than 97.4MHz from Gunung Ledang. In Raub town, 100.1 is better than 97.4.

(Sporadic E DX) Malaysia's IKIM FM Kota Bharu frequency 89.8MHz from Bukit Panau tuned in Sanggata, East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia.

Another freak radio reception in February opening month! Someone received IKIM FM 89.8MHz from Kota Bharu, Malaysia in Sanggata, East Kalimantan, Indonesia on 1st February 2023.

IKIM FM 89.8MHz actually covers Kota Bharu and North Kelantan areas (Pasir Mas, Tumpat, Pasir Puteh, Machang, Tanah Merah, Bachok and part of Jeli), transmitter site is located in Bukit Panau where is in Tanah Merah.

Based on the video above, IKIM FM 89.8MHz radio reception in Sanggata, East Kalimantan, Indonesia is having static signal and the propagation is inconsistent. In addition, its RDS text "IKIM" is appeared on Kenwood radio receiver. In conclusion, the radio reception of IKIM FM 89.8MHz from Kota Bharu in Sanggata, Indonesia is actually Sporadic E propagation, and it is rarely available actually. No signal from IKIM FM could be detected there on FM 89.8MHz during normal propagation.

Memang menggemparkan! Pada 1hb Januari 2023, terdapat seorang DXer menerima siaran IKIM FM 89.8MHz dari Kota Bharu, Kelantan (Bukit Panau) di Sanggata, Kalimantan Timur, Indonesia.

 

Frekuensi IKIM FM 89.8MHz sebenarnya meliputi Kota Bharu dan Kelantan Utara, dipancar dari Bukit Panau yang terletak di Tanah Merah, Kelantan.

Berdasarkan pada video atas berikut, penerimaan siaran Radio IKIM FM 89.8MHz dari Bukit Panau mempunyai bunyi statik dan tidak konsisten di Sanggata, Kalimantan Timur, Indonesia. Di samping itu, teks RDS (Sistem Data Radio) "IKIM" muncul di penerima radio Kenwood semasa penerimaan radio.

 

Hakikatnya, rakaman video Radio IKIM FM 89.8MHz yang diterima di Sanggata, Indonesia adalah isyarat bersifat Sporadik dimana pemancaran radio luar biasa yang menggunakan paras rendah ionosfera bumi yang biasanya tidak membiaskan gelombang radio.

BFM 89.9 radio reception in Johor: Batu Anam, Segamat & Bekok

 

On previous blog which released in December 2018, I mentioned that BFM 89.9 could be received in Johor by using radio transmission coverage map which I generated it via Nautel RF toolkit.

 

In fact, BFM 89.9 still can be tuned in small part of Johor state by tuning same frequency FM 89.9MHz as Klang Valley (from Gunung Ulu Kali). In 1st January 2023, I recorded BFM 89.9 signal videos in Batu Anam, Segamat and Bekok. Radio reception in these 3 locations is in MONO and weak actually.

Video was recorded after two Sporadic E signal of two radio stations (Sabah FM 89.9MHz from Kota Kinabalu and Philippines' Brigada News FM 89.9MHz from Zamboanga) went disappeared in Bekok, Johor. During Sporadic E propagation of Sabah FM and Brigada News FM happened in Bekok, BFM 89.9 was suffering co-channel interference.

 

Technically, BFM 89.9 is still receivable in small part of Johor such as Batu Anam, Buloh Kasop and Segamat.

Fly FM Kota Bharu frequency 107.4MHz radio reception is now getting improved in Kelantan, the interference with Thailand radio station FM 107.5MHz is greatly reduced.

 

In November 2021, I had sent an email to Media Prima radio engineer department to highlight about the poor reception and interference of Fly FM 107.4MHz Kota Bharu frequency in Kelantan after watching my friend's video on YouTube which he tuned Fly FM in Kota Bharu and Pasir Mas with the interference signal from a Thailand radio station on FM 107.5MHz. His videos were sent too as the evidence of interference issue. A day later, I received reply email from Media Prima that the broadcaster realized of this issue.

 

After a year from the date of I told Media Prima regarding Fly FM 107.4MHz interference issue, Fly FM 107.4MHz radio reception is getting better and improved in Kelantan state, and the interference with Thailand radio station FM 107.5MHz is obviously reduced.

 

Before October 2021, Fly FM 107.4MHz signal was very bad in Kelantan and having interference with Thailand radio station FM 107.5MHz. 

 

After October 2021, Fly FM 107.4MHz signal is greatly improved in Kelantan. Videos were taken in several locations such as Dabong, Kuala Balah, Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas and Tumpat. In Rantau Panjang, Fly FM 107.4MHz signal is no longer fully blocked by Thailand radio station nowadays, compare with the year 2020 when 107.4MHz was completely zero.

Since Fly FM 107.4MHz radio reception is clear in Kota Bharu, the Thailand radio station FM 107.5MHz is no longer overspilling to Kelantan state, that's why I could not receive Thailand radio station FM 107.5MHz in Gua Musang town in 23rd October 2022. In addition, PSU Pattani FM 107.25MHz is no longer available in Kelantan when Fly FM 107.4MHz Kota Bharu frequency radio reception is improved.

 

Overall check, Fly FM 107.4MHz radio reception is clear in Kota Bharu, Tumpat and Pasir Mas (as November 2022).
