In Georgetown, Penang, Astro Chinese classic radio station Melody FM is tuned clearly on 106.5MHz from Gunung Jerai, meanwhile 104.9MHz from Bukit Larut is still receivable there and 98.5MHz from Gunung Kledang Ipoh has a very mild signal, but I had captured Melody FM radio signal on 103.0MHz in Georgetown.
Two days ago, I was in Georgetown, Penang to conduct radio DXing and eat the local delicacy. When I was in Georgetown, my main target was to check Perlis FM 102.9MHz Padang Pauh radio signal because it could overspill to Gurney area. Then, I checked Perlis FM 102.9MHz radio signal at 65th floor of KOMTAR tower.
After leaving KOMTAR tower and having lunch at a Nasi Kandar restaurant, I randomly checked Perlis FM 102.9MHz signal at Jalan Magazine area near 1st Avenue Shopping Mall, but I heard adjacent radio signal suddenly which was in Chinese, then I switched the radio dial from 102.9 to 103.0. After that, I heard a weak radio signal of Chinese broadcast on FM 103.0MHz.
It was Melody FM 103.0MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali tuned in Georgetown.
In Georgetown, Seberang Jaya and Gelugor of Penang Island, Melody FM 103.0MHz and Perlis FM 102.9MHz are interfering each other.
From Jalan Magazine to Gurney Drive, Perlis FM 102.9MHz had interference noise of Melody FM 103.0MHz at Jalan Magazine, then Melody FM 103.0MHz was interfered by Perlis FM 102.9MHz again at Jalan Burma.
* Frequency: FM 103.0MHz
* Power: 2kW
* Transmission site: Gunung Ulu Kali, Pahang
* Receiving site: Georgetown, Penang (near Jalan Magazine)
* Distance: 274km
By calculating the receiving distance, Melody FM 103.0MHz from Gunung Ulu Kali becomes the furthest radio station that I tuned in Georgetown, Penang.
