FM DX in Sitiawan, Perak, Malaysia (2022): Received Medan based Indonesia radio stations

Every year of Chinese New Year festival, I do travel to Sitiawan on second day of Chinese New Year holiday from Teluk Intan, and I enjoy eating Red Wine Noodles there.

Tua Pek Kung temple at Pasir Panjang in Sitiawan, Perak is the place where I often visit annually. The place is a Chinese workship temple, also some food and confectionery stalls there.

It is an interesting place to perform "radio fishing" (also known as DXing). I brought two radio receivers such as TECSUN PL-380 and PL-310ET there. Before I owned these receivers, I usually DX through Samsung Galaxy V Plus radio, but it is not nice because it is audio only, instead of footage based.

In January 2020, I only caught two Indonesia radio stations, namely Radio DSB FM 93.8MHz from Deli Serdang and Sergai FM 92.5MHz from Sei Rampah. For 2022, these two radio stations had no signal could be heard in Sitiawan, Perak, Malaysia, but I received three radio stations from Medan, Indonesia.

Reception of Medan based Indonesia radio stations in Sitiawan, Perak, Malaysia were inconsistently receivable, instead they are tropospheric propagation only.

Here are the list of Indonesia radio stations which I received in Sitiawan, Perak, Malaysia on 2nd February 2022. Receiving distance is between 235km and 240km.

1. Suara Medan FM 94.7MHz

The most difficult Indonesia radio station received in Sitiawan, Perak, Malaysia due to interference with RTM Perak FM 94.7MHz from Gunung Brinchang which is also distant weak transmitter.

Co-channel interference between Suara Medan FM 94.7MHz and Perak FM 94.7MHz Gunung Brinchang transmitter could be heard during tropospheric propagation in Sitiawan, Perak, Malaysia. Hence, this is a troposphere interference.

2. Mutiara Kartika FM 100.3MHz Medan

Another radio station which is also difficult to be received in Sitiawan, Perak, Malaysia due to adjacent radio station MY FM 100.2MHz from Bukit Larut. However, Mutiara Kartika FM 100.3MHz signal strength was getting higher and clearer there during tropospheric propagation with little interference from MY FM 100.2MHz Bukit Larut transmitter.

3. Radio Muslim Al-Fatih FM 107.3MHz Medan

Signal was weaker than Mutiara Kartika FM 100.3MHz in Sitiawan, Perak, Malaysia, but co-channel interference with another tropospheric radio station Melody FM 107.3MHz from Gunung Ledang (which covers Melaka and North Johor) was detected.

Overall, Mutiara Kartika FM 100.3MHz was the strongest Medan based radio stations, but it has interference with MY FM 100.2MHz from Bukit Larut, meanwhile Radio Muslim Al-Fatih FM 107.3MHz is the most stable one without interference obviously.

Radio Radja Medan FM 107.7MHz, and RRI Medan PRO-2 FM 92.4MHz signal were negative in Sitiawan, Perak, Malaysia.
