Antara kawasan liputan kedua-dua stesen radio Pantai Timur, liputan Manis FM 103.8MHz agak luas juga di Pahang Tengah, berbanding dengan stesen RTM Bukit Senggora, tetapi liputan siaran Gegar FM 107.9MHz Bukit Fraser lebih luas daripada Manis FM 103.8MHz Bukit Senggora. Selain itu, liputan Gegar FM 107.9MHz dapat mencapai kawasan Kuala Lipis dan Raub, tetapi Manis FM 103.8MHz tidak mencapai kawasan Raub dan Lipis.

Dari segi nilai komersil di Pahang Barat/Tengah, Gegar FM lebih banyak pasaran daripada Manis FM jika Gegar mempunyai frekuensi Bukit Fraser pada suatu hari nanti.

Persaingan akan lebih hebat antara Gegar dan Manis FM di Pahang Barat jika Gegar bersiaran di Bukit Fraser 107.9MHz, mungkin Gegar boleh "masuk" kawasan Negeri Sembilan timur dan Segamat Johor apabila FM 107.9MHz boleh diterima walaupun signal lemah.

Gegar FM frekuensi Bukit Fraser untuk Pahang Barat (bahagian 2)

Gegar ialah sebuah stesen radio no.1 Pantai Timur oleh Astro Radio, kini ia sudah meliputi Kelantan Utara, Terengganu serta Pahang Timur. Pada pandangan saya, Gegar boleh memperluaskan siarannya ke Pahang Barat dengan memasang pemancar di Bukit Fraser.

Cadangan untuk memasang pemancar di Gunung Ulu Kali untuk Gegar tidak sesuai atas sebab lesen penyiaran Gegar berkongsi dengan Raaga stesen bahasa Tamil. Hal ini kerana Raaga 99.3 telah bersiaran di Gunung Ulu Kali pada 99.3MHz, saya mungkin percaya SKMM tidak membenarkan Gegar bersiaran di Gunung Ulu Kali sama sekali, sama isu di Kuantan Bukit Pelindung, Raaga dan Gegar tidak boleh bersiaran sama sekali di Bukit Pelindung kerana lesen penyiaran Radio Lebuhraya Sdn Bhd, dahulu dikenali Time Highway Radio, membahagi kepada dua stesen radio, Raaga untuk pantai barat, manakala Gegar untuk pantai timur, itu sebab Time Highway Radio sebelum masuk Astro memilih Gegar bersiaran di Kuantan daripada Raaga kerana orang Melayu lebih banyak daripada orang India di Pahang Timur, namun THR FM mendapati stesen Gegar boleh bersaing dengan Manis FM pada masa itu. Oleh itu, THR FM membuat penjemaan semula slot Gegar kepada stesen Melayu di Pantai Timur, manakala slot Raaga dijenamakan sebagai stesen radio Tamil di Pantai Barat. Selain itu, Gunung Ulu Kali tidak mempunyai frekuensi kosong pada masa sekarang.

Liputan utama Bukit Fraser ialah Raub, dan Kuala Lipis, tetapi penerimaan stesen radio Bukit Fraser masih jelas dan ok di kawasan Pahang lain seperti Temerloh, Chenor, Bentong, Karak, Bera, Mentakab dan Teriang.

RTM mempunyai empat stesen radio yang bersiaran di Bukit Fraser, iaitu Nasional FM 106.2MHz, Radio Klasik FM 90.9MHz, Ai FM 97.1MHz dan Pahang FM 102.2MHz, penambahan frekuensi di Bukit Fraser untuk RTM sebenarnya meliputi Raub dimana terlindung daripada liputan Gunung Ulu Kali. Di Temerloh, Bera, Teriang dan Chenor, stesen radio Bukit Fraser masih boleh diterima, manakala di Lebuhraya Pantai Timur dari Bentong Timur sehingga Chenor, penerimaan stesen radio RTM Bukit Fraser masih boleh didengari dengan jelas, walaupun kuasa pemancarnya 0.5kW.

Mengenai frekuensi Gegar Pahang Barat dari Bukit Fraser, sebelum ini saya mencadangkan FM 92.4MHz, tetapi Hot FM 92.4MHz dari Bukit Pelindung Kuantan diterima dengan jelas di Chenor, juga masih boleh diterima dalam keadaan yang stabil di Bera (walaupun kurang jelas). Penggunaan frekuensi FM 92.4MHz oleh Gegar di Bukit Fraser mungkin menyebabkan Gegar bakal diganggu oleh Hot FM 92.4MHz di Bera dan Chenor akibat pemancaran Hot FM 92.4MHz sangat kuat dari Bukit Pelindung.

Selain daripada FM 92.4MHz, frekuensi FM 107.9MHz boleh digunakan oleh Gegar di Bukit Fraser untuk Pahang Barat. Walaupun FM 107.9MHz adalah Radio Klasik di Bukit Pelindung untuk Kuantan dan Pekan, tetapi siaran Radio Klasik FM 107.9MHz tidak diterima di Pahang Tengah seperti Chenor. Oleh itu, penggunaan frekuensi FM 107.9MHz oleh Gegar adalah sesuai di Bukit Fraser.

Di samping itu, pemancaran Gegar FM 107.9MHz dari Bukit Fraser tidak akan membawa gangguan kepada liputan Rakita FM 107.9MHz Bukit Sungai Besi di Lembah Klang kerana liputan kedua-dua stesen radio tersebut adalah berbeza.

Saya percaya bahawa pendengar Gegar di Pahang Barat yang sentiasa memandu di sekitar Lebuhraya Pantai Timur akan menerima siaran Gegar 107.9 dari Bentong Timur sehingga Chenor dengan jelas, mungkin penerimaan Gegar 107.9 dari Bukit Fraser akan lebih jelas dan luas daripada siaran radio RTM Bukit Fraser.

Secara kesimpulan, saya berharap Astro Radio akan mempertimbangkan untuk memperluaskan siaran Gegar ke Pahang Barat dengan memasang pemancar di Bukit Fraser, bagi membenarkan pendengar menerima siaran Gegar di Pahang Barat dengan melalui platform FM radio, dan juga bersaing dengan Manis FM.

BFM 89.9 is available in Kuantan and East Pahang?

Malaysia's English business radio station BFM 89.9 is not only available in Klang Valley, but it is available in Pahang, really?

The answer is YES! The transmission of BFM 89.9 from Gunung Ulu Kali covers large part of Pahang areas, mainly Temerloh, Bera, Chenor, Teriang, Benta, Kemayan, Kuala Lipis, Keratong, Muadzam Shah, Maran, Jengka, Raub, Bentong and Mentakab where these areas are under Gunung Ulu Kali services.

Cameron Highlands, Merapoh, Kuala Rompin, Beserah, Damak, Jerantut and Sungai Lembing are not covered by BFM 89.9MHz transmission, but BFM 89.9 is accessible in these areas via mobile app streaming or online.

But surprisingly BFM 89.9MHz is available in certain areas of East Pahang via FM radio, notably Gambang, Pekan and part of Kuantan.

According to the videos, BFM 89.9 reception in Pekan is clearer than Gambang, I believe there is less terrains in Pekan, so Gunung Ulu Kali transmission can go there well.

The reception of BFM 89.9MHz will not be interfered by Terengganu FM 90.0MHz from FELDA Cerul transmitter as Terengganu FM 90.0MHz is just gap filler transmitter to cover Cerul only. Maybe Terengganu FM 90.0MHz Cerul is clashed by BFM 89.9MHz Gunung Ulu Kali around Kuantan.

Perhaps Kuantan has less commercial value to BFM 89.9, but the radio station still can be "survived" and "accessed" in selected areas of East Pahang (Kuantan, Pekan, Gambang) via radio without establishing Bukit Pelindung transmitter.

Best FM boleh didengari di Kuantan?

Tahukah anda? Best FM bukan sahaja boleh didengari di kawasan Pahang Barat dan Tengah pada 104.1MHz yang dipancar dari Gunung Ulu Kali, tetapi Best FM boleh diterima di kawasan Kuantan pada 102.5MHz dari Bukit Tinggi dimana 102.5MHz meliputi kawasan Johor Timur (Mersing).

Bukan sahaja Kuantan, kawasan Pekan juga boleh dapat Best FM pada 102.5MHz. Tanpa memasang pemancar di Bukit Pelindung, Best FM boleh dapat di Kuantan pada 102.5MHz. Kuatnya!

My review of CityPlus FM Kuching 92.5MHz market and suggestion

CityPlus FM is a Chinese business radio station which operated by Cense Media Sdn Bhd, it is sister radio station of Sabah Kupi-Kupi FM 96.3MHz. CityPlus FM begins on air since May 2017, but for Klang Valley, Negeri Sembilan, part of Melaka/Pahang on 106.0MHz from Gunung Telapak Burok. In Kuching, CityPlus FM 92.5MHz went on air on May 2018, a year later than FM 106.0MHz CityPlus FM.

Kuching CityPlus FM 92.5MHz has different content and programmes from Peninsular Malaysia CityPlus FM 106.0MHz. This is because Kuching listeners taste and demand are hugely different from other regions of Malaysia, just like MY FM Sarawak has different contents from Peninsular Malaysia MY FM and Sabah MY FM.

In my opinion, CityPlus FM Kuching 92.5MHz has good direction by launching Kuching studio, but unfortunately the market in Kuching is small for this radio station. Kuching market is smaller than Penang.

For advertising revenue, Kupi-Kupi FM has more advertisers among Cense Media radio stations, which created largest revenue for the company. For City Plus FM, Klang Valley/Seremban 106.0 has better advertising revenue than Kuching 92.5. Maybe Kuching 92.5 is still new, so there is less advertisers.

In terms of radio coverage, CityPlus FM 92.5MHz is transmitted from Bukit Djin, which is far away lower than Gunung Serapi, but other commercial radio stations such as Tea FM, Astro, Media Prima and Bernama are also transmitted from Bukit Djin (also known as Bukit Antu) too. I have no idea why don't many broadcasters choose Gunung Serapi as transmission site for Kuching. Gunung Serapi has wider radio coverage than Bukit Djin for Kuching of Sarawak.

 

Compare with the coverage between Bukit Djin and Gunung Serapi, the population gain of Bukit Djin is smaller than Gunung Serapi. 

In Kuching, Chinese are the second largest ethnic after Sarawak Malay, meanwhile Iban are no.3 largest, then Bidayuh is no.4.

It is common if a radio station has less revenue during first two years from operation day. Imagine if CityPlus FM 92.5MHz has less advertisers after two years from May 2018, CityPlus FM can go for tri-lingual radio station to make its Kuching market wider by launching Iban and Bidayuh segments.

By not affecting current CityPlus FM 92.5MHz Kuching Chinese programme line up, Iban and Bidayuh programmes can be launched on non-peak hours of the radio stations such as weekdays nights (from 8pm till 12am), then weekends morning till noon.

The most challenging thing is to hire presenters who can speak Ibanese and Bidayuh languages fluently.

Mainstream broadcasters (except RTM) so far never makes Sarawak ethnics radio stations, but small broadcast company can make it.

On weekends, CityPlus FM Kuching 92.5MHz plays non-stop Chinese music. To me, 92.5 can feature Iban and Bidayuh programs on weekends, maybe 3 hours per languages. For Iban and Bidayuh languages programs, they're not business talk, but entertainment oriented to provide more localized touch to Kuching market.

In conclusion, I may believe CityPlus FM 92.5MHz Kuching may get better revenue by featuring Iban and Bidayuh languages programs. Mandarin Chinese is still the mass language of CityPlus FM 92.5MHz, meanwhile Iban and Bidayuh can become niche one.

Maybe 60% Chinese, 20% Iban and 20% Bidayuh for programs division.

For those Iban and Bidayuh people who stay outside of CityPlus FM 92.5MHz Kuching coverage, they can listen online or download CityPlus FM mobile app. Besides that, they can download their favorite Ibanese and Bidayuh programmes podcasts. So, CityPlus FM 92.5MHz Kuching can gain revenue again by attracting advertisers to advertise on highest download rate podcast.

City Plus FM在巴生谷, 森美蘭, 馬六甲西部和彭亨部分地區是FM 106.0MHz, 古晉是FM 92.5MHz, 但這家電台在這些地區以外依然可以通過數碼平台收聽, 最重要的是下載City Plus FM手機應用程序.

在室內, 不管是辦公室或家裡通過手機應用程序收聽City Plus FM絕不是問題, 第一就是啟動藍芽連接影響, 第二可以使用AUX連接線從電話連結至具備AUX/Music Port的收音機.

If Singapore MediaCorp acquires NTV7 and TV9 from Media Prima?

Last week, we had known that Malaysia former ruling party UMNO is going to sell its stake in Media Prima. Then, few years ago Media Prima suffered huge loss revenue since 2014.

From 2018 onwards, all TV9 programs were end and filled by CJ Wow Shop TV shopping block when Media Prima attempted to rebrand NTV7 as Modern Malaysian channel, but ntv7 rebranding movement seemed unsuccessful due to low rating when came to end of 2018.

Due to unsuccessful rebranding of ntv7, from 2019, ntv7 is filled by CJ Wow Shop, but in Mandarin Chinese. From what I understand, Media Prima launches CJ Wow Shop on ntv7 (in Chinese) and TV9 (Malay) is to cover their loss revenue.

In my opinion, Media Prima shall close all analogue TV transmission as soon as possible because their TV stations are available for digital transmission. Media Prima also pays transmission fees to MYTV for digital terrestrial television, then the company still pays transmission fees to Telekom Malaysia for analogue terrestrial television, so Media Prima already pays double fees. Rather than paying duplicate transmission fees to TM for analogue TV, all their TV stations analogue transmitters must be shutdown.

TV3 and 8TV have better performance within Media Prima Television Networks, meanwhile ntv7 and TV9 recent performances are poor. If ntv7 and TV9 cannot gain revenue back via CJ Wow Shop, I suggest Media Prima to dispose ntv7 and TV9 to save operation costs.

When talk about disposal of NTV7 and TV9, simply dispose will not cover the revenue, but it is better to sell them to new party from Media Prima. For Malaysia TV companies, most of them may not interest to acquired these two disposed TV stations due to new company direction.

Our neighboring country, Singapore has famous broadcaster, known as MediaCorp. This company is quite successful in Singapore, Channel 5 and Channel 8 are the longest and most famous TV stations in Singapore.

Singapore kids and sports TV channel OKTO will be merged into Channel 5 since 1st May 2019. In Malaysia, the merger also happens for Media Prima. Technically, TV9 and NTV7 Malay contents were merged to TV3, meanwhile NTV7 Chinese contents were merged to 8TV.

Actually MediaCorp can expand its business to Malaysia by opening Malaysia branch, this can produce high quality content with its Singapore branch for Malaysia. For poor performance Media Prima TV channels, if these channels cannot survive with CJ Wow Shop within 3 years, what I suggest is Media Prima need to dispose NTV7 and TV9 and sell to MediaCorp Malaysia instead in terms of business deal between two companies.

If Media Prima sells NTV7 and TV9 to Astro, I don't think Astro is interesting to acquire them because both companies' license conditions are different. Astro is pay TV, meanwhile Media Prima is free-to-air TV CASP license holder.

If MediaCorp opens Malaysia branch, it may call as "MediaCorp Sdn Bhd". Same theory like Channel 5 famous drama, Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd in Singapore, but when Phua Chu Kang made drama in Malaysia with joint venture between Channel 5 and NTV7 around 2010, the drama was known as Phua Chu Kang Sdn Bhd.

Imagine if "MediaCorp Sdn Bhd" acquires ntv7 and TV9 from Media Prima, the Singapore based company may not retain the TV stations name, instead MediaCorp will fully rebrand the stations in order to produce high quality programs from Malaysia and Singapore.

In Singapore, MediaCorp has Vasantham for Indian community, but Malaysia has no free-to-air Tamil TV stations, it may feel unfair to Malaysia Indians.

By the way, here is my suggestion of rebranding channels if MediaCorp acquires NTV7 and TV9:

- NTV7>> English and Malay TV channel (Channel 7?)
- TV9>> Chinese and Tamil TV channel (Channel 9?)

Then, MediaCorp can produce "Crimewatch Malaysia" on either NTV7 or TV9.

Talk about logo, Channel 7 and Channel 9 will look like Singapore based Channel 5 and 8.

In conclusion, the suggestion regarding acquisition of NTV7 and TV9 from Media Prima by MediaCorp Malaysia may benefit both companies. First, Media Prima will not feel burden much of handling TV stations, mainly content and operation. Second, acquisition by MediaCorp for NTV7 and TV9 will create more competition in Malaysia free-to-air TV industry.

Compare to Thailand radio stations in other provinces of Southern Region such as Satun and Songkhla (Hat Yai), Betong has more vacant frequencies.

Brief information: Betong is southernmost Thailand area which next to Malaysia border (Pengkalan Hulu, Perak).

- FM 102.9MHz (uncommon Thailand frequency spectrum system)

Although Betong is a district under Yala province of Thailand, but the listeners demand and taste between Yala and Betong are hugely different, so that's reason Radio Thailand launches district radio station known as Radio Thailand Betong FM 93.0MHz for the district to target Betong listeners, meanwhile Betong is not under main coverage of Yala radio stations, instead as distant radio stations.

Radio Thailand Yala FM 92.0/94.25/95.0MHz, Parliament Radio FM 89.0MHz and MCOT Yala FM 102.5MHz are transmitted from Khao Pokyo in Bannang Sata district, they cover North-Central Yala province, Pattani and some areas within Narathiwat province. Although Betong is not covered, but Yala radio stations still be heard with weaker signal, also known as "DX" mode.

Yala is Thai-Malay Muslim majority area, so there are Muslim content on Yala radio stations. For Betong, it is mixed area in Thailand, so Yala radio content is not important much there.

Betong radio stations are also available in Pengkalan Hulu of Perak as well as Baling of Kedah for Malaysia, but it depends on the radio stations transmission parameters, such as antenna design and transmitting power.

RTM launches gap filler transmitter in FELDA Terolak for Nasional FM and Radio Klasik

On 3rd February 2019, which fell 2 days before of Chinese New Year. While I traveled from Klang Valley to Teluk Intan Perak, there were two RTM radio stations Radio Klasik and Nasional FM broadcasted on 90.3MHz and 88.5MHz respectively where I detected the stations in Bidor and Teluk Intan.

Initially I was wondering where are these two radio stations transmitting from, then I made site speculations by predicting the site is either from FELDA Terolak or TLDM Lumut. Based on spectrum analysis, Radio Klasik FM 90.3MHz and Nasional FM 88.5MHz have 200kHz frequency separation from Gunung Kledang transmitted Traxx FM 90.1MHz and Radio Klasik FM 88.3MHz respectively. It is impossible that Lumut separates 200kHz from Gunung Kledang as Lumut is under Gunung Kledang coverage. So, I guessed they're transmitted from Terolak.

In order to get exact verification, so I decided to collect data by recording the reception video and uploaded to YouTube as evidences, next I chose to write in email to RTM, together attaching YouTube videos that I recorded. I collected the data by not only recording video on my TECSUN PL-380 receiver as well as Nissan Almera's radio in Teluk Intan and Bidor, I also recorded the audio from Samsung Galaxy V Plus radio receiver.

After I sent the email, I had been informed that RTM launched pocket filling transmitter for Radio Klasik 90.3MHz and Nasional FM 88.5MHz in Terolak, Perak. Terolak has two transmitting towers, first is in FELDA Terolak Timur, second is TM Terolak microwave towers which located beside MRSM FELDA Terolak, but reception in Sungkai is not clear, so I guess both are from FELDA Terolak Timur.

In my opinion, RTM adding FELDA Terolak (Timur) transmitter for Radio Klasik and Nasional FM is to cover blind spot areas within Terolak, Perak. I may believe the radio reception from existing Gunung Ulu Kali and Gunung Kledang are unstable and not clear in Terolak, Perak because it is hilly area. Other than newly launched radio transmitter, RTM does have analogue TV transmitter in FELDA Terolak (Timur).

Because Malay is the majority population in Terolak, Perak, other than Radio Klasik and Nasional FM, RTM shall also launch pocket filling transmitter in FELDA Terolak for Perak FM.

Radio Klasik and Nasional FM are RTM Malay nationwide stations, meanwhile Perak FM is Perak state Malay radio station, to me it is quite important for Perak FM to have Terolak frequency.

Perak FM operates three frequencies for Southern Perak, FM 95.6MHz from Gunung Kledang is the main transmitter to cover Ipoh, Central Perak, Teluk Intan, Manjung, Kampar and Sungkai, meanwhile FM 97.3MHz Changkat Rembian covers Tapah, Temoh, Bidor and Chenderiang, FM 89.6MHz Bukit Asa covers Slim River and Tanjung Malim.

In Terolak, Perak FM reception are not satisfied much, FM 97.3MHz Changkat Rembian, FM 89.6MHz Bukit Asa and FM 95.6MHz Gunung Kledang are weak. The existing transmitters are not covering Felda Terolak (Timur). In order to stabilize Perak FM reception in Southern Perak, there are two suggestions.

1. Perak FM shall add gap filler transmitter in FELDA Terolak

2. In order to make better reception for Slim River and Tanjung Malim, RTM Perak FM shall change Bukit Asa frequency from 89.6MHz to 107.1MHz, then increase transmitter power to 1kW.

中文版Astro Awani, 覺得如何?

Astro是馬來西亞最大的付費電視台. Astro提供很多電視頻道, 各種語言, 各種類型都有.

除了提供國際和海外電視頻道之外, Astro也有自家電視台. 此自家電視台都是播放本地製作的節目為主, 另外Astro自家電視台也播放少許的海外節目.

談Astro中文電視自家頻道, 截至2019年, Astro已經有8個自家中文頻道, 那是:

1. Astro AEC: 華語綜合頻道, 播放本地和海外華語節目

2. Astro 華麗台: 粵語綜合頻道, 播放本地和香港粵語節目

3. Astro 歡喜台: 閩南語 (福建話)綜合頻道, 播放本地和大部分台灣閩南語節目

4. Astro AOD: 播放最新TVB港劇的頻道

5. Astro 全佳HD: 播放中國大陸最新的節目

6. Astro 雙星: 中文戲劇頻道

7. Astro 喜悅HD: 馬來西亞第一家中文免費高清電視頻道, 播出已經在華麗台/AEC/全佳/雙星/歡喜台播放的節目

8. Astro小太陽: 中文兒童頻道, 華語為主

在這八個頻道裡, 大部分都是娛樂為主, 包括戲劇, 電影和綜藝, 新聞歸少數. Astro中文自家電視頻道缺少了一樣東西, 那是新聞時事頻道.

太多娛樂不是很好的事, 原因是不均衡, Astro中文自家電視台需要一家"比較認真"的頻道. 在我的看法, Astro其實可以考慮推出"中文版"Awani.

談到中文版Awani的節目內容, 除了以華語覆蓋新聞和時事之外, 這家電視頻道可以增設為PMEBs和中小型企業節目, 比如: 企業, 政治分析, 雜誌, 汽車, 科技, 紀錄片, 財經, 理財, 大人物訪問, 體育談話, 企業真人秀和其他談話, 也可以增設女性話題.

我認為中文版Astro Awani可以鎖定華裔專業人士, 企業家, 經理, 商人, 甚至中小型企業. 推出中文版Awani不但提供另類給觀眾, 也把Astro現有的中文自家頻道類型平衡化. 這家電視頻道應該歸為免費頻道, 所以Astro和NJOI用戶可以收看Astro中文自家新聞時事財經頻道.

My opinion of launching "Chinese version" of Astro Awani

Astro is a direct home satellite pay TV in Malaysia. It is content applications service provider by offering variety of channels from local and international for everyone.

Other than offering international channels, Astro does have its branded channels in Malay, Chinese and Tamil. Astro-branded English channels are sports, known as Astro Supersport, meanwhile Astro does not have any in-house English channels like AEC, Ria, Vannavil as most of English speaking people will watch imported international channels such as AXN, Discovery, FOX etc.

Now I'm going to talk regarding Astro Chinese in-house channels. As 2019, Astro does have 8 Chinese in-house channels (regardless Mandarin, Cantonese or Hokkien), such as:

1. Astro AEC (Mandarin general entertainment channel)

2. Astro Wah Lai Toi 華麗台 (Cantonese general entertainment channel)

3. Astro Hua Hee Dai 歡喜台 (Hokkien general entertainment channel)

4. Astro Shuang Xing 雙星 (Chinese drama channel)

5. Astro Quan Jia 全佳 HD (Exclusive programs from Mainland China)

6. Astro Xiao Tai Yang 小太陽 (Chinese kids channel)

7. Astro AOD (Exclusive and latest  TVB dramas from Hong Kong)

8. Astro Xi Yue HD 喜悅 (First free Chinese HD channel for Astro and NJOI users, a best of best variety shows channel. Astro Xi Yue somehow reruns older programs from Wah Lai Toi, Shuang Xing and Hua Hee Dai)

Among all 8 Astro-branded Chinese channels, most of them are entertainment based channels (dramas, comedy, game show, variety show, movie, cartoons, education), but Astro Chinese segment is lack of something serious channel. In my opinion, I feel certain Astro-branded Chinese channels are a bit slapstick, so in my opinion, Astro shall consider to launch Chinese version of Astro Awani.

Let's look at Astro Malay segment, Astro does have "something serious" channel, it is news channel, known as Astro Awani.

Astro Awani is Malay news and current affairs channel, later Awani does have English programmes later, become bilingual channel. As 2019, Astro Awani does not only cover news and current affairs, it also covers documentary, politic analysis, business, magazine, entrepreneur and talk programmes.

As Chinese is second largest ethnics in Malaysia, then there is growing of Malaysia Chinese business talk radio station City Plus FM where hit the airwaves since May 2017, my suggestion to launch Chinese version of Astro Awani is to target Malaysian-Chinese PMEBs, SMEs and serious viewers. 

PMEB stands for Professionals, Managers, Entrepreneurs, and Businessmen/Businesswomen, meanwhile SME stands for Small Medium Enterprise.

Despite Astro does have Chinese news channels, but they're imported channel such as Phoenix News Channel broadcasts from Hong Kong, actually Astro needs local in-house news and current affairs channel in Chinese.

Regarding the proposal of "Chinese version" of Astro Awani, the suggested channel does not only cover news, current affairs and political analysis in Mandarin Chinese, in order to make the channel more variety for Chinese PMEBs, and SMEs, this "Chinese version" of Astro Awani can feature documentaries, business, money financial, entrepreneurship, and technology talk, also automotive discussion. In addition, Chinese version of Awani can have Chinese business entrepreneur reality show in Chinese Mandarin like something Alliance Bank BizSmart Challenge.

Besides news and current affairs, some of talk shows related to business, money financial and others can be either in Mandarin Chinese or Cantonese, depends on the producers' choice.

Chinese version Awani= News, current affairs and business TV channel in Chinese language.

In conclusion, I think it may be better if there is Astro-branded news, current affairs and business channel in Chinese language like Awani because this can provide more choice for Malaysia-Chinese viewers. When certain of them need news and something serious, rather than slapstick and crappy entertainment stuff, so they can watch Chinese Awani instead. For the channel name, I have no idea of this Chinese Awani channel. In addition, I have no idea of channel numbering suggestion for Chinese Awani.

For the package, Chinese version of Astro Awani shall be free channel for Astro and NJOI users, HD simulcast is encouraged.
