BFBS Radio Brunei FM 101.7MHz tuned in Miri Division, Sarawak, Malaysia (2024 and 2025 update)

Here are my videos of tuning BFBS Radio Brunei FM 101.7MHz in 3 locations of Miri Division, Sarawak where I recorded from 2024 to 2025.

Among 3 videos, Kuala Baram is the clearest location to tune BFBS Radio Brunei FM 101.7MHz, following by Lutong.

From Seria to Sarawak, BFBS Radio Brunei FM 101.7MHz can be tuned up to Miri City, no signal after Miri.

It is my favorite Brunei based UK radio station when I drive from Miri to Brunei.

RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz Bukit Tampalagus is the furthest radio station tuned in Miri Division, Sarawak (Bekenu, Marudi and Miri)

RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz from Bukit Tampalagus transmitter mainly covers Sipitang, Beaufort, Sindumin and Menumbok, meanwhile it is also available in Lawas, Sundar, Trusan of Sarawak and part of Brunei (Temburong, Muara, Tutong and part of Bandar Seri Begawan).

Since April 2024, I captured its signal at the first time in Bekenu, Miri Division, Sarawak. Bekenu was marked as the furthest location in Sarawak to tune Sabah VFM 102.9MHz from Bukit Tampalagus transmitter.

Recently I successfully received RTM Sabah VFM on 102.9MHz in another 2 locations in Miri Division, Sarawak, notably Marudi and Miri Airport.

Same as Bekenu, RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz signal is super weak and mild in Miri and Marudi.

Sabah VFM 102.9MHz is clear in some areas between Pan Borneo Highway and Marudi due to high elevation of the road because Marudi road is hilly.

By calculating the distance from Bukit Tampalagus to 3 tuning locations, RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz is the furthest radio station tuned in Miri Division, Sarawak.

No signal in Long Lama and Batu Niah for this radio station.

Radio stations in Long Lama, Sarawak

Long Lama is a rural town in Marudi District, Miri Division, Sarawak. It is 140km away from Miri town. On 30th November 2025, I had radio DXing activities in Long Lama, I went there due to curiosity about the radio stations coverage there.

 

In Long Lama, I managed to tune 17 radio stations, including 5 Brunei radio stations from Andulau.

 

1. RTM Radio Klasik FM 91.9MHz Bukit Lambir (64km)

 

2. RTM Nasional FM 92.7MHz Bukit Lambir (64km) and 95.5MHz Long Lama

FM 98.1MHz has audio distortion.

Cannot be tuned at all in Long Lama town due to strong adjacent channel interference from RTM Nasional FM 95.5MHz Long Lama transmitter. No alternative frequency is available for Miri FM in Long Lama. Miri FM listeners need to tune via RTM Klik online in Long Lama. Radio Kayan/Talidio Kenyah can be tuned alternatively via Astro CH871, MYTV CH710 or SW 11665kHz in Long Lama. In my opinion, RTM Nasional FM should change its Long Lama frequency to avoid interference against Miri FM 95.7MHz. In Long Lama, Miri FM has no local transmitter like Nasional FM and Sarawak FM. Both radio stations Nasional FM and Sarawak FM in Long Lama tower are linked from satellite feed, meanwhile Miri FM has no C band satellite feed to link studio feed to the remote transmitter site.

RTM radio stations from Bukit Lambir are moderately weak in Long Lama, except Miri FM 95.7MHz, but commercial radio stations such as Hitz 105.8, Era Sarawak 101.3, MY FM 103.2, Cats FM 93.3, Sinar FM 96.6, and Melody FM 102.4 are extremely weak there.

 

Brunei radio stations from Andulau have very mild signal in Long Lama, Sarawak, but only for Radio Televisyen Brunei RTB radio channels. I need to find a correct position to capture those signals.

 

Kristal FM 98.7MHz and Al-Quran Radio FM 99.7MHz have no signal in Long Lama, Sarawak. 

Limbang FM 104.9MHz (Bukit Mas), Bintulu FM 97.5MHz (Bukit Setiam), Miri FM 95.1MHz (Bukit TT844 Suai) and Sabah VFM 102.9MHz (Bukit Tampalagus) signals are completely zero in Long Lama, Sarawak.

RTM Sabah FM 97.9MHz and Sabah VFM 102.9MHz can be tuned in part of Brunei via Bukit Tampalagus transmitter

 

Do you know? The Sabah radio stations RTM Sabah FM 97.9MHz and Sabah VFM 102.9MHz available part of Brunei where are transmitted from Bukit Tampalagus.

Bukit Tampalagus transmitter mainly covers Sipitang, Beaufort and Menumbok, but the signal can reach Lawas, Sundar and Trusan in Sarawak, as well as part of Brunei.

 

I visited Brunei daytrip on 1st December 2025 by driving a car from Miri, Malaysia in the morning, then departed back to Miri in the afternoon.

In Brunei, RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz can be tuned clearly in Muara, but signal is not so clear in Bandar Seri Begawan and Tutong. From Muara to Sungai Tujoh immigration checkpoint on the highway, RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz can be only tuned up to Tutong, then signal goes disappeared after Tutong when I drove to Kuala Belait.

No signals are available in Seria and Kuala Belait for Sabah VFM 102.9 and Sabah FM 97.9.

I managed to tune RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz in 3 Brunei locations, together with RTM Sabah FM 97.9MHz.

Here are the locations where I tuned RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz and Sabah FM 97.9MHz in Brunei.

RTM Sabah VFM 102.9MHz is clearer than Sabah FM 97.9MHz in Bandar Seri Begawan and Tutong because Sabah FM 97.9MHz has adjacent channel interference noise of Nasional FM 98.1MHz Bukit Mas transmitter.

In Muara, both radio stations are loud and clear.

Dusun is the minority ethnic in Brunei, Dusun people can tune Sabah VFM on 102.9MHz in Brunei (except Seria and Kuala Belait) daily from 9pm to 12am for Dusun language broadcast.

 

When I was in Brunei, I tuned to Kadazan and Chinese languages broadcast on Sabah VFM 102.9MHz from 8am to 12pm. 

Muara, Tutong, Bangar (Temburong) and part of Bandar Seri Begawan are the only locations in Brunei where I can tune Sabah FM 97.9MHz and Sabah VFM 102.9MHz.

Compilation radio reception videos of RTM Perlis FM 102.9MHz in Penang (2024-2025)

Do you know? RTM Perlis FM can be tuned in part of Penang via 102.9MHz from Padang Pauh transmitter.

In some areas of Penang, I could tune RTM Perlis FM 102.9MHz weakly and moderately in 2025.

The best locations to tune Perlis FM 102.9MHz in Penang are Batu Ferringhi, Tanjung Bungah and Teluk Bahang because they're facing to the sea.

Perlis FM 102.9MHz has mild adjacent channel interference from Melody FM 103.0MHz Gunung Ulu Kali transmitter in Georgetown, Seberang Jaya and Permatang Pauh, meanwhile it has interference from Thailand's Army Radio TP4 FM 103.0MHz Trang in Georgetown too sometimes.

In Georgetown, the signal is clearer if I tuned to Perlis FM 102.9MHz at higher altitudes, especially higher floor of the buidlings and apartments. That's why I don't recommend BFM to use 102.9MHz in Bukit Sungai Kechil to cover Penang, otherwise BFM will face co-channel interference from Perlis FM in Penang.

Balingian is the final coverage of RTM Sibu FM via 102.1MHz Bukit Singgalang transmitter when we drive from Sibu to Bintulu

Balingian is a small town of Mukah Division, it is located between Mukah and Bintulu. 

Regarding the radio stations' coverage, Balingian is covered by Bukit Setiam transmitter. In Balingian, here are the available radio stations.

What about RTM Sibu FM in Balingian?

According to the coverage map which I generate via Nautel RF Toolkit, Sibu FM in Balingian is covered by Bukit Singgalang transmitter on the frequency 102.1MHz, meanwhile its Mukah frequency 98.7MHz is weak there. RTM Sibu FM 98.7MHz Mukah transmitter has adjacent channel interference noise from Traxx FM 98.5MHz Bukit Setiam transmitter in Balingian.

Based on the coverage map, RTM Sibu FM 102.1MHz Bukit Singgalang transmitter has moderately clear coverage in Balingian.

On YouTube, a Sarawak radio DXer, named COCK DX Channel (also known as Sarawakians_12) published an audio clip of tuning Sibu FM 102.1MHz in Balingian area, Sarawak. According to him, he tuned the radio at Pan Borneo Highway with 61km distance. By measuring the distance with 61km from Bukit Singgalang to Pan Borneo Highway, he tuned RTM Sibu FM 102.1MHz at Sungai Arip area after Ulu Balingian when heading to Bintulu. 

The signal is moderately weak at Sungai Arip.

By drawing a line from the receiving site to the north, actually Sibu FM 102.1MHz signal is louder and clearer in Balingian than Sungai Arip and Kuala Balingian near Tatau.

From Sibu to Bintulu via Pan Borneo Highway or coastal road, Balingian is the last coverage of RTM Sibu FM 102.1MHz Bukit Singgalang transmitter. Weak or zero signal after Balingian when enter Tatau.

In Balingian, both Sibu FM (102.1MHz) and Bintulu FM (97.5MHz) are available, they mostly relay the broadcast from Wai FM Iban for 21 hours, meanwhile they air local Malay program for 3 hours from 9am to 12pm daily.

For Wai FM Iban's listeners in Balingian, they can tune clearly and loudly via Bintulu FM 97.5MHz (Bukit Setiam transmitter), compare to Sibu FM 102.1MHz (Bukit Singgalang transmitter).
