FM 107.9MHz in Johor Bahru

FM 107.9MHz is currently empty in South Johor. In 2001, it was formerly used by IKIM FM in Gunung Pulai. IKIM FM changed its Johor Bahru frequency since 2002 to FM 106.2MHz. Currently there are three unoccupied frequencies in South Johor, 89.3MHz, 96.3MHz and 107.9MHz. Two frequencies FM 89.3MHz and FM 96.3MHz will be occupied by Singapore Press Holdings in Bukit Batok on December 2017.

Radio Komunitas Hang Tuah FM was formerly occupying FM 107.9MHz in Batam Indonesia, 107.9MHz was carried by Wiraga FM before 2012.

According to broadcast regulator department, FM 107.9MHz is not suitable to be used in Gunung Pulai or transmission site within Johor Bahru because this frequency is being occupied for airband in Johor Bahru airports, Singapore airports and Batam Island airports. If FM 107.9MHz is going to be used in Gunung Pulai, it can cause co-channel interference to airband. In addition, the frequency usage can cause serious incident to the aircraft, also can led aircraft passengers and crews death because of accident due to airband interference with broadcast frequency.

In my opinion, the Johor Bahru, Singapore and Batam airports should not use FM 107.9MHz for aircraft navigation to the aircraft. They should change the frequency to upper band (VHF 108.1MHz and above). MCMC, MDA, and Batam broadcast regulator should discuss about the frequency allocation of airband to prevent clashing with broadcast band.

FM 107.9MHz should be reserved for broadcasting radio stations to be occupied in Gunung Pulai for Johor Bahru due to limited frequency in Johor Bahru.

Note: Ignore the occupants of Radio Kamek on 107.9MHz for Woodlands and Pasir Gudang of JB.
